Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) has advised that it has resumed the same day processing and printing of driver’s licences at select locations.

In a release Tuesday, its said taxpayers renewing their driver’s licence are now able to submit their applications and have them processed within the same day at the following tax offices:

King Street Revenue Service CentreSt Andrew Revenue Service CentreMandeville Revenue Service CentreMontego Bay Revenue Service CentreSpanish Town Tax OfficeSt Ann’s Bay Tax OfficeMay Pen Tax Office

The release said people may opt to fast-track the process of renewing their driver’s licence by making the renewal payment online via the TAJ tax portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm using any valid credit card or banking with credit card features and the credentials of the expired/expiring driver’s licence.

The individual must then complete the relevant F7 application form (downloadable form the website) and submit with the receipt, expired/expiring licence, and the completed form. People are reminded that renewal before the expiration date, can only be done 30 days prior.

“Persons are advised that non-printing offices will still only accommodate drop-off applications for a 20 business day processing/turnaround time. Additionally, persons are able to utilise the convenience of the Status Checkfeatureby visiting www.jamaicatax.gov.jm and inputting the requested information, after which the system will provide you with an update on the stage of your renewal,” the TAJ said.

As the hip-hop is mourning the shocking loss of PnB Rock, who was fatally shot at a Roscoe’s Waffle House in L.A. on Monday, fans’ eyes have turned to Nicki Minaj’s Twitter rant, in particular her response to the murder.

Soon after the news was confirmed of his untimely passing, Nicki Minaj took to Twitter to offer her condolences and share her pain at the loss with her more than 26 million fans. The message seemed innocent enough but, for some reason, drew the ire of some fans while others praised her stance.

“After Pop Smoke there’s no way we as rappers or our loved ones are still posting locations to our whereabouts. To show waffles & some fried chicken????! He was such a pleasure to work with. Condolences to his mom & family. This makes me feel so sick. Jesus,” she tweeted.

The anger came from some fans who felt she was indirectly blaming the fallen rapper’s girlfriend, who shared their location while eating. Something that has not yet been blamed in any way for the “Misunderstood” rapper’s demise.

Nicki Minaj, who is known for being very interactive on her social media channels, responded to the backlash and tried to explain that her message wasn’t supposed to stir up a hornet’s nest but rather remind rappers that they are often looked at with jealousy and in some cases violent eyes.

“As a RAPPER & as a MOTHER. I know 1st hand how these guys feel coming from the streets then being able to provide for their moms. My heart is hurting for the MOTHERS OF THESE KIDS that tried to make something better of their lives!!! LETS EDUCATE ASAP!!!” she said in one tweet.

In another, she explained that there could never be a wrong time to put forward a positive message. For her, all that matters is if at least one young rapper could be saved. She also lashed out at the hate she was getting and said she really didn’t care about all the negativity surrounding her comments.

The “Starships” rapper also said that those commenting couldn’t possibly understand her pain because she is in the industry. She added that it was a different kind of pain a person feels when someone they were just working with gets gunned down. At the end of that tweet, she also said that all she really cared about was saving young rappers.

The “Anaconda” rapper also said that it was time that the people around young rappers take better care of their safety and remind them that there may be people out there who want to take them down.

In recent times fans have been pitting Nicki Minaj against Cardi B, and this time was no different as some fans commented that Cardi’s expression of condolences was much better worded.

“I highly doubt n***as was looking at PMB’s babymom IG. He was in a bad location and people stay outside plotting. It’s very irresponsible and inconsiderate to blame her for something so tragic. We should be sending nothing but love to her and his family at this time,” Cardi also posted.

PnB Rock’s murder further reinforces Jim Jones’ statement that being a rapper is the most dangerous job.

House Speaker Dr McKeeva Bush has said that the things Queen Elizabeth II stood for are now more valued with her passing, which has brought with it solidarity across nations.

Bush’s remarks came as he addressed a special sitting of the Cayman Islands Parliament to pay tribute to The Queen on Monday 12 September.

“We have all seen over the past days that her passing has caused great gloom to many who have known or met her. The grief is unbelievable, unbearable at this time but her passing also brings extraordinary solidarity across nations and we feel collectively a sense of loss and deep sadness,” Bush said.

“It is at this juncture,” he continued, “that we more fully value what she represented and stood for. She has left a remarkable spirit of reconciliation and harmony that at this time is felt with particular poignancy.”

Although the session is not a requirement of any Overseas Territories during the period of National Mourning, the meeting was called by the Speaker, who said he felt compelled to honour the late queen along with fellow parliamentarians.

The public was invited to attend as Queen Elizabeth II had been a symbol of constancy in the lives of Caymanians for the last seven decades. Several regional dignitaries were also in attendance.

The Speaker’s tribute was followed by a number of passionate and touching homages including from Governor Martyn Roper and Premier G Wayne Panton, who also thoughtfully imparted words on behalf of the entire Cayman Islands.

Tributes and well wishes were also paid by Leader of the Opposition Roy McTaggart, Deputy Premier Chris Saunders, Minister for Tourism and Transport Kenneth Bryan, as well as the Opposition Member Sir Alden McLaughlin.

Other heartfelt condolences included those from Minister for Youth Sports Culture and Heritage Bernie Bush, Minister for Planning Agriculture Housing and Infrastructure Jay Ebanks, Minister for Education and District Administration Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, Parliamentary Secretary Isaac Rankine, Minister for Health and Wellness and Home Affairs Sabrina Turner, Opposition Member Barbara Conolly as well as Katherine Ebanks Wilks, Deputy Speaker and Parliamentary Secretary.

There are a number of public events during the National Mourning Period which runs from Thursday, 8 September through Tuesday 20 September. Through these various events, the community will join others around the world in remembering Her Late Majesty’s great legacy.

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) is expected to announce Iceland’s Heimir Hallgrimsson as the new head coach of Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz later this week, according to reports.

The 55-year-old Hallgrimsson stepped down as head coach of Iceland in 2018. He was named assistant to Lars Lagerback in 2011 and became joint-manager in 2014, helping Iceland beat England at Euro 2016.

After Euro 2016, he became sole manager, leading Iceland to their first-ever FIFA World Cup, where they went out in the group stage despite a draw with Argentina.

He was most recently head coach at Qatari League Club Al Arabi from 2018 to 2021.

Hallgrimsson will take over from former interim head coach Paul Hall who had a record of two wins, three draws, and five losses in 10 games since his appointment in December 2021.

Hallgrimsson is also a dentist. He took up that profession after a modest playing career.
