<>, a indiqu?

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Le Nouvelliste

A 19-year-old Jamaican man, Kemaree Reid, has been jailed in the United States, allegedly for repeatedly beating another man with a rock during a fight until the victim was “gushing blood”.

The fight took place at a hotel in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, according to a report from the state police that was read out in court.

According to a report in the Keystone Gazette, Reid confessed during an interview with the police that he first threw a rock at the man during the fight over a “work issue”, before grabbing a second rock, which he used to beat the victim “over and over” until he noticed “a large pool of blood”.

The injured man suffered “suspected serious injuries”, and was taken to hospital.

The assault occurred about 8:30 pm on Sunday at La Quinta Inn and Suites located at 265 North Hershey Highway in West Hanover Township.

The Jamaican was slapped with two felony charges for aggravated assault, including “attempts to cause or cause bodily injury with a deadly weapon”.

The other felony charge for aggravated assault resulted in him being charged with “attempts to cause serious bodily harm with extreme indifference”.

Reid has also been charged with two misdemeanour offences relative to simple assault.

He is being held at Dauphin County jail.

He was denied bail because of the “seriousness of the charges, extensive injuries to the victim, immigration detainer and flight risk,” as ordered by the magistrate.

His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for September 29.

The community of Brown’s Town in St Ann has been plunged into mourning after three residents of that community died from injuries they sustained in a two-vehicles collision in Trelawny on Thursday afternoon.

More than 20 other hotel workers who were passengers in a Toyota Coaster bus that was transporting them to work at a H10 hotel in Trelawny, were injured in the crash.

A couple, the sole occupants of a Hiace minibus which crashed with the Coaster bus that was transporting the hotel workers from the Brown’s Town community, was counted among the deceased.

Their identities have not yet been ascertained.

However, the driver of the Coaster bus, who also died from the crash, has been identified as Nuvin Johnson of a Brown’s Town address.

Johnson was driving the Coaster bus heading towards the hotel, when on reaching Braco in Trelawny, the vehicle collided with the Hiace minibus with the couple, who was also from his community.

At least one of the injured hotel workers is said to be in a critical condition in hospital.

Ministry of Youth and Sports partners with NBA star Jamal Murray Loop Barbados

Black Immigrant Daily News

Young Barbadian basketball players gained an invaluable opportunity to learn under NBA star Jamal Murray this week.

Murray, who plays for the Denver Nuggets, will be hosting a training clinic at the new hardcourt in Orange Hill, St James.

The new recreational area which comprises two full sized basketball courts, was officially opened on Tuesday, August 30.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Charles Griffith noted that it was a special day for the rural community because the space would be utilised by its residents.

“It is our [Government’s] intention to trigger sports at the grassroots level. To have this planted in rural Barbados can only redound to the benefit of those youngsters who will use the facility. At the ministry, we’re actively looking as far as possible to get youngsters off the island through basketball scholarships and other areas. And I’m sure that this particular facility will augur well going forward,” he pointed out.

While highlighting that not many events encapsulated his entire Ministry, that of youth, sports and community empowerment, he expressed pleasure at the fact that the basketball court would do so. “We have this sporting aspect, we have the fact that youth will be playing here and … this is bringing new energy to the Orange Hill community for those youngsters who will be involved in the process,” he stated.

Griffith stressed the importance of taking care of such a facility, even though the National Sports Council (NSC) would maintain the hardcourt. “The community must take care of this [court], to ensure its longevity, this court is in your hands,” he emphasised to the community members in attendance.

Director of the NSC, Neil Murrell, thanked the Ministry, his staff and sponsors, Western Union, for selecting Barbados to partner with, to rebuild the courts and conduct a training clinic with the Denver Nuggets player.

Chatting with Loop News as they made their way from the aircraft and tarmac to the Arrivals Hall, Customs and Immigration at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA), the general consensus is that a nonstop flight such as this would be a good thing “definitely”.

Drake Gets History Lessons After Saying 2020 ‘hardest year in human history’

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Drake made a bold statement that 2020 was the hardest year in human history and fans quickly gave him some history lessons.

A video of Drake in an interview has gone viral with a quote from the Canadian rapper irking some people. The rapper is seen with short hair, and his signature heart design faded into the front of his hairline, which suggests the video is from sometime last year as he donned the special cut to celebrate his ‘Certified Lover Boy’ album.

It’s the statement that Drake makes that has people up in arms as the rapper appears to be speaking about the year 2020 and says it is the worst year in human history.

Now, the Covid-19 pandemic had a devastating effect on countries across the world, with 6.4 million people dying and more than 603 million being infected from the virus. Many countries shut down and banned gatherings to stop the virus. As a result, countries are now dealing with an economic downturn as inflation rises, and the cost of living goes up. Some countries were also hard hit, and many people also lost their lives to Covid.

“The hardest year maybe in human history that we’ve ever been through,” he begins while the video cuts to ominous music with an empty street, and the camera zooms in on a sign that says, “If you want live music back, wear a mask.”

“Forget music, as a people like, the hardest time to ever connect with people, relate to people,” the rapper says in an ominous tone.

It’s unclear where the video is from or what interview it was, but many people took to social media to school the Toronto rapper.

“This is why ppl have to study history because wtf,” one person wrote on Instagram. “Wait till he hear about slavery and segregation,” another said. “Don’t say human history, say in your lifetime. Far worst have gone on. SMH Aubrey,” another told him.

Some of the rapper’s fans did speak up in his defense.

“He meant for this generation,” one person said. “He said that we’ve ever lived through. He must’ve meant our generation,” another said.
