Panel sobre el Fiscal Especial Independiente (PFEI), no nombrará un fiscal especial independiente a la fiscal auxiliar del Departamento de Justicia (DJ), la licenciada Zulma Delgado Colón tras coincidir con la recomendación que le remitió el DJ.

Este caso se originó con un referido al Departamento de Justicia de parte del Negociado de Investigaciones Especiales (NIE), mediante el informe, titulado “Incidente Complejo Correccional 501 Bayamón”. El mismo se relaciona con un caso en que un confinado intentó ingresar a dicha institución carcelaria un paquete que contenía sustancias controladas, luego de que regresara a la institución tras comparecer como testigo del Ministerio Público.

Agrega la información, que la fiscal Delgado Colón había autorizado la entrega del paquete en la institución penal y como tal, se vislumbraba la posible comisión de conducta delictiva por parte de la fiscal y de otros funcionarios del orden público. Sin embargo, de la investigación surge que al momento de entregarle el paquete al confinado, la fiscal Delgado Colón le solicitó a una oficial correccional que lo revisara antes. Al así hacerlo, no se identificó evidencia ilegal alguna por parte de dicha agente.

La División de Integridad Pública y Asuntos del Contralor (DIPAC) del Departamento de Justicia, realizó una investigación preliminar sobre este asunto, que incluyó un análisis amplio y minucioso de toda la prueba, así como entrevistas al personal correccional de distintos niveles.

Entre los hallazgos y recomendaciones de la investigación preliminar de la DIPAC, se concluye que, la evidencia testifical, documental y digital obtenida no relacionan a la fiscal Delgado Colón con los elementos legales del delito de posesión e introducción de objetos a un establecimiento penal.

A tenor con dicho informe, el Secretario de Justicia estuvo de acuerdo con lo concluido por la DIPAC y recomendó al PFEI que no se designara un fiscal especial independiente.

Conforme a lo expuesto, el Panel ordenó el archivo definitivo de este asunto. No obstante, ante la posibilidad de que otras personas no comprendidas bajo la jurisdicción del PFEI pudieran haber cometido delito, el Panel puso a disposición de Justicia el expediente remitido por si ese departamento investiga esa posibilidad.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors recorded their first loss of the 6IXTY as the Trinbago Knight Riders dug deep and defended a modest 96 at Warner Park in St Kitts and Nevis. The victory was compliments of the TKR bowlers, who rarely failed to miss their mark, handing them victory by 47 runs.

TKR prevail

Heading into the chase with only 96 needed for victory, the Amazon Warriors only managed to muster 24-4 at the half way stage. The TKR bowlers, bowled with much vigour as captain Ravi Rampaul led from the front removing Shai Hope for one. Jayden Seales would then dismiss Chandrapaul Hemraj for 5 and return for Shimron Hetmyer for 2. The Warriors struggled to read the line and to make matters worse Colin Ingram fell victim to Anderson Phillip for one, as TKR made the Warriors work for their runs. However, it didn’t matter as TKR continued to eat away at the Warriors, Heinrich Klaasen remained not out on 25 off 19 balls as he was given no support. The Warriors ended on 48-6 in 8.1 overs, having hit only four boundaries in their innings, bowling for TKR were Ravi Rampaul 2-6, Jayden Seales 2-10, Anderson Phillip 1-15 and Terrance Hinds 1-4.

Warriors control the first half

Earlier in the innings, batting first, the Trinbago Knight Riders got out of the blocks at a slow rate. Having put up 46 runs in 5.3 overs. Openers Tim Siefert and Teon Webster played the first over cautiously as Romario Shepherd bowled with precision, only giving five runs off the opening over. Ronsford Beaton would then give away 14 runs in the second over, but the Warriors recovered well, giving away four runs in the following over.  Webster and Siefert would continue to struggle for runs, Odean Smith bowling the sixth over would remove both openers as he hit the deck hard, bowling a good length with pace and precision.

Hinds outshines Russell

With the score on 50-2, TKR played the right move and promoted Andre Russell up the order, as compared to when the sent him in at number six in their previous encounter. Russell and Akeal Hosein would attempt to revive TKR in the remaining 24 balls. But mystery spinner Waqar Salamkheil outfoxed Hosein, sending him back in the pavilion for duck. Terrence Hinds came to the crease and alongside Russell they rallied along slowly. There was no muscle Russell as he struggled to hit the bowler, however, Hinds found some form in the last over and smacked Ronsford Beaton for 1,6,6,4. He fell the next ball for 23 off 9 balls, but Seekkuge Prasanna ruined Beaton’s figures smashing the last ball for a maximum, Andre Russell remained not out on 13 off 12 balls. TKR ended on 95-4, bowling for the Guyana Amazon Warriors were Odean Smith 2-11, Ronsford Beaton 1-36 and Waqar Salamkheil 1-7.

Miriam Darcie, the mother of missing 11-year-old Levi Darcie, has disclosed that the boy went shopping Friday morning with his grandmother, who gave him cash to take a bus home.

“Apparently he didn’t take a bus – he walked to come home because I live at Cedars and he met friends and he went to the river,” Miriam told St Lucia Times.

“They said it was a ball he went to take, but I don’t know,” the distraught mother said.

According to reports, the 11-year-old was playing with friends, ended up in the river and was swept away.

La Policía informó el viernes, sobre el hallazgo de un cuerpo en estado de descomposición, a las 11:14 de la mañana, en una residencia que ubica en la urbanización Sierra Linda en Bayamón.

Según el informe policíaco, el cuerpo de un hombre identificado por familiares como Edgardo López Pérez, de 53 años.

Éste fue localizado en el área del pasillo de la residencia en estado de descomposición. El cuerpo será trasladado al Instituto de Ciencias Forenses para los estudios correspondientes y determinar la causa de la muerte.

El agente Jonathan Cruz, adscrito al Precinto de Bayamón Oeste, junto al agente Ramón Torres, de la División de Homicidios del Cuerpo de Investigaciones Criminales de Bayamón y la fiscal Jennifer Cancio se hicieron a cargo de la investigación.

The Ministry of Health Wellness and the Environment says there are now 15 active cases of Covid 19 recorded in St. Vincent and the Grenadines

In its latest update, the Ministry says two new cases were recorded on Thursday August 25th, from Raid Antigen Tests,  while four recoveries were noted.

Four persons are currently hospitalized with Covid 19, one is fully vaccinated and three are unvaccinated.

9,422 cases of Covid 19 and 9,292 recoveries have been reported in  St. Vincent and the Grenadines to date.   115 people have died from the virus.

And, 72,532 Covid 19 vaccines have so far been administered locally.  37,145 persons have received their first dose;  31,260 have received their second dose and 4,127 persons have received boosters.
