UV Vibe 2022 was an awesome celebration.

That was the general consensus as Loop interviewed patrons during and after UV at La Belle Lawns in Lower Estate, St George on Sunday, July 24.

Patrons had four food stations to choose from with the two main food buffets being catered by Tim’s Restaurant and the second by Sweetfield Manor. The others were provided by two sponsors.

There were at least nine bars at the all-inclusive breakfast party and therefore, patrons did not have to contend with long lines throughout the course of the morning. According to one interviewee: “I gaw control my eating… too much food!”

UV patrons truly feted from night to morning, from 2am to just after 10am. They saw the food dishes transition from breakfast to brunch and then lunch. There was even a tea and coffee station that offered Lucozade energy drinks once the sun came up.

SunMix girls along with Campari and Hennessy drink runners walked the crowd and kept the snacks and drinks flowing directly to patrons around the venue in their pumping spots.

And the icing on the proverbial cake for organiser Mario Turton was surprise shots for his birthday with Hypasounds, Fadda Fox and others on stage. Then though playing stage shy, he was back quickly on stage jumping with Fadda Fox as he sang “Do you remember UV in Prior Park? Ahhhhh!”

Watch the video to see how the vibes were up all morning long.

UPP: Last-minute attempts to rush through several programmes on the eve of the general elections.

New school under construction

Senator Damani Tabor is condemning the Gaston Browne Administration for its last-minute attempts to rush through several programmes on the eve of the general elections.

At present, several major roadways are being patched, fences are being repaired, infrastructure is being put in place, houses are under construction, and water tanks are being distributed across Antigua.

While these are projects that should have been undertaken over four years ago, the Antigua Labour Party Government makes no apology for failing to undertake them earlier, says Works Minister Lennox Weston.

Leaving things undone and then engaging in a flurry of activity in the lead-up to the polls is simply part of the Administration’s strategy, he said in a recent radio interview.

But Senator Tabor says these rush jobs are not satisfactory and the people will no longer be deceived by them.

Tabor, Public Relations Officer for the United Progressive Party, says the UPP will do a better job of running the country and of ensuring that the people benefit from its plans and programmes.

He reminds residents that the Labour Party Administration has embarked on many ventures during its eight-year tenure and most of these have failed or failed to materialize.

Accordingly, Tabor says, the last-minute rush will not make up for these broken promises.

Fraud-Accused Trio In Customs Racket Set For Court On Wednesday

Customs officer Joezine Christian and customs brokers Rowan Matthew and Foster George are to be taken before the court on Wednesday of this week on fraud charges.

The trio are spending the long holiday weekend in lock-up after being jointly charged last week with Conspiracy to Defraud.

In addition, the two brokers have been indicted for Obtaining Money by False Pretence, while customs officer Christian will also answer to additional charges, including corruption.

The charges were laid as part of a major, long-running probe into an alleged racket in which millions of government revenue was fleeced from the Customs and Excise Division.

Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Hon. Gaston Browne had first raised the alarm, indicating his signature had been forged as part of the insidious scheme.

Law enforcement officials have labeled this as a major breakthrough and the corollary of what they say has been a meticulous probe.

Notorious Travel Outlet “The Points Guy” Visits St. Kitts For Upcoming Video Series

Black Immigrant Daily News

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 27, 2022 (SKTA) — The St. Kitts Tourism Authority recently hosted the critically acclaimed production team dubbed “The Points Guy” (TPG) from 12 – 17 July 2022. Representatives of TPG visited the island exploring and gathering content for their new adventure video series, which will highlight key locations that can offer potential travelers top-quality destination experiences. The St. Kitts episode is expected to run on the TPG social channels and website later this year.

The Points Guy has a proven track record of delivering expert travel advice to its audience since its launch in June 2010. TPG has gradually developed into a lifestyle media brand with over 10 million monthly viewers and maintains an influential social media presence with over 3 million followers across Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn.

“We chose St. Kitts because of its ability to resonate with different types of travelers. The island is multi-dynamic, offering both adventure and relaxation. We intend to showcase the entire spectrum of what St. Kitts has to offer through the island’s culture, luxury hotels, ATV tours, local rum production, cuisine, recreational activities, and nightlife.” said TPG Video Director Ayana Morali.

CEO of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority (SKTA) Mr. Ellison “Tommy” Thompson is pleased that media presence on island is increasing. “TPG’s destination piece aligns with our new advertising campaign that will launch in September. The SKTA is steadily working towards improving our brand awareness and destination marketing strategies. A refreshed marketing campaign will build excitement and familiarity in the destination’s source markets,” said CEO Thompson.

By hosting international media on the island, St. Kitts continues to strengthen brand awareness in source markets and creates a high level of booking confidence among consumers. Additionally, this exposure increases stay-over visitation and per-person / per-day spending on the island.

As the winter season approaches, the Tourism Authority foresees an increased number of media outlets and agents visiting the island to assist with the promotion of the destination within its source markets.

PM on plans to curb violence as slain family of five laid to rest Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the Jamaican Parliament is making changes to several pieces of legislation that should help curtail violence when they come into effect.

The prime minister made the comment at the thanksgiving service for the lives of Kemesha Wright and her four children — Kimanda Smith, 15; Shara-Lee Smith, 10; Rafaella Smith, five; and 23-month-old Kishawn Henry — at the Stuart Hall building at Clarendon College in Clarendon on Sunday afternoon. The five were killed at their home in Cocoa Piece, Clarendon, last month by their relative Rushane Barnett, who has since pleaded guilty.

The prime minister’s statement comes as Opposition Leader Mark Golding said he would support the Government’s move to stem the violence. In the past few weeks, the country has been rocked by several incidents of multiple murders.

Opposition Leader Mark Golding greets Gwendolyn McKnight on Sunday at the service of thanksgiving for the lives of her daughter and four grandchildren who were brutally slaughtered at their home in Cocoa Piece, Clarendon, in June.

Holness said Sunday that changes have been or will be made to the Firearms Act, the Bail Act, the Law Reform (Zone of Special Operations) (Special Security and Community Development Measures) Act, the Offences Against the Person Act, the Sexual Offences Act, the Domestic Violence Act, and the Child Care and Protection Act.

He said, too, that more support would be coming for victims of violence as too often people are witness to or have been victims of violence, and they do not feel satisfied by the process.

The prime minister also said changes would be made to the legal system to provide counselling and to detect and intervene in situations before they become violent. He pointed out that the accused in the Clarendon five killing had come to the attention of the police before, and had there been a system to detect violence, things may not have got to the stage of five people being murdered.

Meanwhile, Golding bemoaned that when Jamaica should be celebrating Emancipation Day the nation is mourning the loss of five young lives.

Caretaker candidate for North Central Clarendon (People’s National Party), Dr Desmond Brennan, said what Jamaica is experiencing demonstrates that something is lacking in the homes. He said parents must curb “bad” behaviour in children before it gets out of hand, adding that society, along with promoting physical health, must also put some focus on mental and social well-being.

In the meantime, Education Minister Fayval Williams said that by next school year, civics will be reintroduced to teach youngsters values and virtues.
