Letter send to ANR from ABS Staff member:

We are pleased to advise that we have received overtime payment cheques from submissions which we made last year.

These include outstanding payments for overtime amounts which we identified that were not previously submitted and overtime up to Whitsun 2021.

We will advise those persons for whom there are cheques individually.

Kindly note that cheques will not be given to third parties and a valid photo ID must be presented in order to collect the cheque.

Dear Editor,

It’s sad to hear about the most recent news reports coming out of ABS Television/Radio. We thank Antigua Newsroom for giving all Antiguans and Barbudans and opportunity to be heard on its popular platform.

No one at ABS should feel that they untouchable and above reproach from the PS and Minister in charge of the ministry.

I have kept quiet about everything that I’ve personally experienced and what I’ve seen other employees go through but after finding out one of my media colleagues could have had a mental breakdown, I was moved to finally start penning the other side of the story, the horror story.

There are stories and harrowing experiences that the public don’t hear about unless they are a close friend or family of an, ABS employee, and that is sad.

Absolutely sad how the spirit of so many employees may NEVER be able to recover from the emotionally and psychological abuse.

Can we blame one person though?

The answer is simple and in short “NO”.

The type of behavior being dished out to employees has been enabled by and supported by the Minister, PS and even the management team who dare not go against this individual’s way of doing things and handling business.

This only empowers the individual to continue doing the things they do with no regard for human life and livelihoods.

The management team will victimize and belittle employees who work tirelessly to ensure that you the public wake up to the TV channel being on air!

We turn on our TVs nightly and we have a news broadcast to watch – all on the backs of the same employees who are abused, misused and mistreated.

United We Stand! Divided We Fall! Employees at state owned ABS take one step forward and ten steps backward. For years ABS employees have been fighting for their basic workers’ rights, issues that should be on the fore-front and of immediate focus of management to keep employees contented, happy and fulfilled.

El expresidente de Estados Unidos Donald Trump fue destituido como director de su compañía de medios poco antes de que la empresa fuera citada en el marco de una investigación por los reguladores financieros, según un expediente legal visto por AFP el viernes.

El documento muestra que el hijo de Trump, Donald Jr, y varios otros también fueron destituidos en junio como ejecutivos de Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), que incluye su red social Truth Social.

Esta plataforma dijo que se trata de una información falsa e insistió en que Trump sigue presidiendo la empresa.

La información fue publicada por primera vez el jueves por el Sarasota Herald Tribune, el diario de la ciudad de Florida donde TMTG tiene su sede.

La agencia de regulación financiera estadounidense y la fiscalía de Nueva York investigan a TMTG por usar una empresa ficticia llamada Digital World para entrar en bolsa.

La notificación de TMTG ante el Departamento de Estado de Florida de la destitución de Trump como director está fechada el 8 de junio, solo unas semanas antes de que Digital World recibiera la citaciones legales para que testificaran sus directores y otros ejecutivos.

El sitio web de TMTG tiene en su menú un acceso a la “Junta Directiva”, pero aparece en blanco.

Pero el comunicado publicado el jueves en la cuenta oficial de Truth Social señala que “Donald Trump permanece en la junta de Trump Media and Technology Group” con el cargo de “presidente”.

Trump creó Truth Social tras la eliminación de sus cuentas en Facebook, Twitter y YouTube tras el asalto al Capitolio del 6 de enero del año pasado, ante acusaciones de que había usado las redes sociales para incitar a sus seguidores a usar la fuerza para torcer el resultado de las elecciones presidenciales de 2020.

Antes de ser censurado, tenía 89 millones de seguidores en Twitter y usaba la plataforma constantemente.

Charlestown Nevis, July 7, 2022 (NIA) — Three students grabbed the top positions among 11 students of the Cecele Browne Integrated School (CBIS) who participated in the Ministry of Tourism’s Exposition Nevis 2022 Environmental Poster Contest. The theme was “Keep Nevis Clean.”

At a brief prize-giving ceremony held at the school recently, Hildreth Tross captured the top spot followed by Jaquoiya Francis in second place and Kijaunte Hobson in third.

The top three winners and the school were presented with gifts and certificates of appreciation by Hon. Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis and Minister of Tourism. The gifts included school supplies from the ministry; and platinum sponsor Latitude Seventeen, a development consultant and project construction management company, managed by Martha Isbister.

Each of the 11 participants received a $100 gift card from Latitude Seventeen. They were encouraged to include art supplies when shopping with the gift card, as they continue to develop their art skills.

In brief remarks, Premier Brantley congratulated the students and staff while registering his satisfaction with the students’ skills.

“I am so happy to be here at this institution of learning to congratulate all of you youngsters for the fantastic job that you’ve done… Let me congratulate your principal and the entire staff and all of the students for the incredible job that you have been doing. You have always been at the epicentre of these types of activities and we’re really proud.

“When I look at what you’ve produced here – the creativity, the thinking that went into it and of course for you, the posters that you’ve created, I really do think that Nevis is in good hands. So I want to thank all of you,” he said.

Mr. Brantley told the students that protecting the environment on Nevis was of critical importance to all residents and visitors alike.

“Protecting the environment is important to all of us. A clean and healthy Nevis means that we have a clean and healthy environment. It means that we live healthier lives.

“It is important to us in tourism because clearly, people come to our island and we want our island to be clean. We want our island to be healthy. Part of that is controlling what we do in terms of garbage disposal, also ensuring that we recycle; we reduce the amount of garbage that we generate; we reduce the number of plastics that we generate, and I thought that this theme for this event was very timely,” he said.

Mr. Brantley who is also the Minister of Education noted that Exposition Nevis is an annual activity hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, and expressed his pleasure that the school which is a critical part of what they do, was a part of the activity after a two-year hiatus.

Other remarks were made by Ms. Vanessa Webbe, Tourism Education Officer and Ms. Lydia Lawrence, Senior Clerk at the Ministry of Tourism; and Mrs. Jennifer Liburd, a teacher at CBIS.

Cover Your Essentials: Celebrate our culture and freedom, but make sure that you first cover your basic expenses: transportation, healthcare, rent, and food, before spending money on anything else. Always overestimate how much you’re going to spend. That way, you’ll have money left over, if things go wrong.
Save As Much As You Can: If you have money left over after budgeting for the basics, determine a set amount that you feel comfortable depositing into your emergency and personal savings. Be ready for the unexpected.
Spend Creatively: You may not necessarily need to spend a lot of money to have an enjoyable Carnival. For the parade, consider carpooling or packing a cooler, to save a few dollars. Coordinate your activities with friends so that you can pool all of your resources to have a good time.

Samuel-Fields notes that during Carnival, it is extremely tempting to overspend while playing mas, partying with friends and family, enjoying great music, revelry and food.

She asserts that by following the simple tips provided, anyone can achieve financial wellness through careful spending and deliberate savings.

“Carnival should be a time to keep on top of your financial well-being to enjoy a less stressful celebration, by sticking to your budget and managing your money during this short lived season,” she said. “Be honest about what you can and can’t afford. This will help to reduce financial pressures and protect your overall wellbeing, during Carnival and in the longer term too,” she added.
