Vybz Kartel drops off his new single “Hope Is A Liar.”

The single was first previewed in 2019 on the incarcerated deejay’s Adidjahiem Records label, and now fans finally have the finished product. Even though he has been behind bars for well over a decade, Vybz Kartel somehow managed to release a steady stream of new music. Although some fans believe his one dominant presence in dancehall has since simmered, the fact that he is still a hot topic of discussion in the genre is a testament to his work ethic and star power.

On his new dancehall love ballad, Kartel sings, “I hope you be fine girl/ Hope is a liar/ What yuh desire, don’t even try girl/ Gimme back me life you are a destroyer/ Look how me did love yo.”

The single comes on the heels of Vybz Kartel’s latest album, True Religion, a project which he dedicated to his fiancee Sidem Ozturk, who was recently spotted at his house his Portmore shooting a music video while being surrounded by heavily armed guards.

Kartel also recently released some new photos of himself showing off his drip behind bars. In one photo, he wore a multicolored polo shirt with ripped jeans and a fresh pair of desert Clarks. In another shot, he switched things up, wearing Jordan kicks and with light-washed ripped jeans, and a Jordan white T.

Polo G Iced Reports He Unfollowed Gunna Over Snitching Claims

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Polo G addressed misleading reports on Friday, claiming that he is the latest rapper to unfollow Gunna in what appears to be a polarizing blowback in the hip-hop community because of his recent guilty plea deal in the YSL RICO case.

On Friday, reports surfaced that the “Rapstar” rapper had removed Gunna from his friends and followers list in a bid to distance himself from him due to the perception that he had violated the “street code” to never tell. However, Polo G was quick to set the record straight as he denied ever following Gunna in the first place.

“I wasn’t never followin’ him to unfollow up,” Polo G wrote on Instagram Story. “Y’all be on my d*ck.”

The rapper also wanted others to leave him out of such things noting that he doesn’t keep much company and wanted to be left alone.

“I don’t follow up behind nobody, I make my own decisions as a man and I do a good job at mindin my business,” he wrote. “U don’t see me in shit for a reason.”

In another post, he added, “I don’t fuck with n***as good or bad simple and plain.”

Gunna

Earlier this month, Gunna spoke for the first time, claiming that despite taking an Alford Plea, he has not switched sides. “N***as acting like they switching to a side,” he wrote. “But it’s only one side. #YsltheLabel #FreeThug&Yak GUNNA BACC!!!!!”

Gunna received major backlash from fans and followers who referenced the tape from his court hearing where he was asked about knowledge that YSL was a gang and to which he answered affirmatively.

Since then, many have Gunna and the seven other defendants who took plea deals “snitches” for cooperating with authorities to get out of jail while others, like his close friend Young Thug, remained in jail along with 13 others.

Among those who have unfollowed Gunna are rappers, Lil Baby and Meek Mill, while his former collaborator Lil Durk also dissed him in a new song this week. Even Wack 100 has teased that his artist is going to release a song “inspired” by the plea deal.

Veteran dancehall disc jockey, DJ Kentucky, is facing rape charges involving a minor girl.

According to the police report, DJ Kentucky, whose real name is Shawn Stewart, was arrested on Thursday (January 19) and charged with rape following an incident involving a 12-year-old girl last year. The young girl is reportedly a student at Anchovy High School in St. James.

The victim alleges that on August 18 last year, she asked Stewart to assist her in buying a gift for her mother’s birth. DJ Kentucky allegedly told her yes and asked her to follow him to his home for the money. She said she complied, but things took a turn when inside of the disc jockey’s home. She told her parents that Steward held her and forcibly had sex with her before dropping her off at a location in downtown Montego Bay.

Her parents filed a report at the Freeport police station, and cops immediately launched a search for the disc jockey, who had not been seen since then. However, some five months later, Kentucky turned himself into the police in the company of his attorney. He was arrested and booked for rape involving a minor.

DJ Kentucky is currently awaiting his first court appearance, where his lawyer will apply for bail.

If convicted, he could face decades in prison for the crime.

Mavado Reacts To Usain Bolt $12 Million Fraud: ‘Jamaica full of white collar criminal’

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Mavado is the latest dancehall artist to react to Usain Bolt’s multimillion-dollar fraud case at the Stocks and Securities Limited.

Like Usain Bolt, the dancehall singjay also has his own fraud case playing out in the courts for years. In a post on his Instagram account on Thursday, Mavado shared an article about embattled former attorney Jennifer Messado, and her husband had their bail extended. We’ve covered the case of Vado and Messado extensively over the years. The singer alleges that the disbarred lawyer defrauded him out of over JM$30 million involving the sale of a real estate property.

While Mavado did not mention Bolt in his statement, it’s clear that he is calling out a certain class of people in Jamaica on the heels of the ex-athletes missing funds amounting to US$12.7 million, which is just over JM$2 billion.

“Jamaica full of white collar criminal and the government is not doing anything about it because the people who’s taking your money are friends of the bosses who runs the country and who makes the talk and support white collar crime against the people..who came from nothing to something under this government you will never see the real criminals goes to jail as long as they come from up town where everyone goes to the same school and grow up together lol all I can say Jamaica get f*** and we haveto pray because it’s a serious thing and it’s getting worse because now dem getting very dry eye with it so who’s going to save us [Prime Minister Andrew Holness] the DPP give them bail each time dem do it,” Mavado wrote.

Vado has been battling Messado since 2018 in the Jamaican court system. According to the singer’s attorney, the trial date for Messado is set for March 1-3 this year. He also wants to testify in the trial via live video since he is currently living in the United States.

In the meantime, Usain Bolt is among some 30 investors who lost funds at the Stocks and Securities Limited. The governing body of the financial sector, the Jamaica Financial Service Commission, FSC, has since stepped in to assume control of the company, while relevant law enforcement bodies have launched an investigation.

Ice Spice Shares NSFW Artwork and Tracklist For “Like..?” EP

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Ice Spice has revealed the cover page and tracklist for her debut EP Like..?, which arrived at midnight on Friday.

The Bronx rapper revealed the provocative cover on Thursday night just before midnight, featuring a cartoon version of herself bent over with her butt showing out, only covered by a tiny bikini bottom and bra top. Ice Spice kept her orange fro and added long lashes while using her hand to cover the crotch and butt area.

Her rap name is blazed onto the back of her thighs. The six-track project features her debut song, “Munch,” at No. 6, followed by her follow-up track, “Bikini Bottom,” at No.5. The other songs are new tracks, including “In Ha Mood,” “Princess Diana,” “Gangsta Boo” featuring Lil Tjay, and “Actin’A Smoochie.”

The album is produced by RIOT USA. Ice Spice rose to fame last year after her song “Munch” took off on Tik Tok with the catchy intro. Since then, the rapper has had a few festival gigs and guest appearances as she got a feel of the big stage. Despite criticisms that her stage presence was lacking, the rapper has braved the unsavory pronouncements and continued to work, revealing last December that she was working on new music. This week, she shared snippets from what looks like a music video shoot for the upcoming project.

Ice Spice

Ice Spice made the news this week after collaborator Lil Tjay was arrested after the car he was in was searched, and police recovered several guns. The rapper was later released on a $90,000 bond. Under her album cover announcement post, Tjay posted the goat emoji.

Ice Spice, whose real name is Isis Gaston, was suspected to be considering signing to Drake’s OVO Label after she was spotted on his private jet and later hanging out together in Toronto. She had confirmed that Drake had linked her in the DMs but shortly after their meeting, the two rappers unfollowed each other.

Drake also seemed to have dissed Ice Spice in his 21 Savage joint album, Her Loss. “She a ten tryna rap, it’s good on mute, yeah,” Drake rapped, leading his fans to assume it was about Ice Spice.

The Bronx Baddie also didn’t care as she responded to speculations saying at least she is a 10.

Shaggy Says New ‘Shaggy Record’ Coming In 2023

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Shaggy is already talking new music for 2023, but the legendary Jamaican artist says he’s due a “Shaggy record” after spending much of his recent time either collaborating or sampling new music.

While speaking with the Grammys about his nomination for Best Reggae Album for the Sting collaborated project ‘Com Fly Wid Me’, the artist spoke about working on a new record, mentoring younger artists, and dealing with the loss of his mentor Robbie Shakespeare from Sly & Robbie.

According to Shaggy, he has been working on a “Shaggy record” for the past three years despite the uncertainty of the pandemic.

“I’m excited about production projects with young writers and musicians. I’m like a kid in a candy store. Everybody keeps asking for a Shaggy record. But when Sting says let’s go now, you go now! So we did the Sinatra album. It’s like I’m his little project. But I’m overdue for a Shaggy record,” he said.

He added that he has an extensive list of songs recorded, but he has been in production mode tweaking and changing the songs.

“I’ve been working on my latest record for the last three years. I have about 100 songs, and keep redoing it. I get inspired over and over again with new stuff. The hardest part is taking stuff out,” he said.

While Shaggy hasn’t given a timeline for when fans can get new music, he revealed that the sound of the project, much like Com Fly Wid Mi, would have a new sound, unlike anything he has released before.

“Whatever I do next won’t be what’s expected. If I do what’s expected, then I’ve failed. I’m always looking for that new sound. I make records selfishly to please me. I don’t want to be bored, I’m allergic to boredom. If I’m not bored, then the record is timeless,” he said.

The artist also shared wisdom imparted to him from others and spoke about using that to mentor young people.

“James Brown told me once in my dressing room that they can take away your wife and your house, but not your talent. I believed him. None of those accolades I can take with me, but I can inspire, and change someone’s family. I’m the only musician in my family, and now I have a niece at Princeton. We have changed the cycle of our lives, and that moves me, that excites me,” he said.

Shaggy also spoke about how his year 2022 went as he revealed the impact of the loss of Robbie, who helped to shape his outlook on life.

“The year was bittersweet because I lost [bass player and producer] Robbie Shakespeare of Sly and Robbie. He was a mentor of mine, like a father figure to me. We went to the funeral and that was rough,” he began.

Shaggy added, “Shakespeare was one of the greatest musicians and also an amazing person. Humility is the biggest thing he taught me. As a person from the ghetto, he helped me realize my purpose. He would say you’re here as a servant to change people’s lives.”

Robbie died in December 2021 after complications with liver and kidney transplants he had had.

Beenie Man, whose real name is Moses Davis, shared on Thursday that he had also received a special commendation from the United States House of Representatives on behalf of the City of New York (Brooklyn Borough).

Fans are speculating that Love & Hip Hop reality star Alexis Skyy and Afrobeats artist Asake might be dating after they were spotted together in Senegal.

Skyy has been observed by fans enjoying Afrobeats music a lot lately, so while some were surprised, many felt satisfied that they’ve figured out the reason she enjoys music from the Motherland so much. According to news reports out of Nigeria, Asake attended the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) show in Dakar, Senegal, over the weekend and was spotted with the “Oyinbo babe” (light-skinned girl).

A video showed Asake and Skyy walking in together, and she was seated alongside him for the entirety of the show. The scene caused quite a stir on Nigerian Twitter as this is the first time he has been seen with a woman. Asake has been slowly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the Afrobeats industry and has worked with the likes of Tiwa Savage on “Loaded” and “Sungba,” featuring Burna Boy and others. At the AFRIMA awards, he won the Breakout Artist of the Year award.

Skyy is a reality star and has been on Love & Hip Hop Hollywood, New York, and Atlanta at different times in her life. Her fame grew immensely for her connection to Fetty Wap, who was years ago thought to be the father of her daughter Alaiya.

Fetty only learned that the little girl was not his child in 2019, three years after she was born.

Still, Skyy is a much-liked person on social media and has endeared herself to fans who expressed happiness at her being seen with Asake.

“Alexis Skyy ? Asake carry good eyes enter market,” one said.

“I won’t be surprised if Alexis Skyy and Asake are officially dating cause she stays posting content with afrobeats lol,” another said.

Flo Rida Wins $82 Million In Celsius Energy Drink Lawsuit

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Flo Rida has won an $82 million verdict against energy giant Celsius whom he sued for breach of contract, damages, and monies owing under a celebrity endorsement deal.

The trial was by jury and took place for five days which saw the rapper sharing details about Celcius offending behavior as it refused to honor the terms of their agreement. Flo Rida had sued for $30,000 in damages and unspecified sums for the stock options, which he said he was denied by Celcius despite meeting his obligations under the contracts; and unpaid royalties. The lawsuit covered two endorsement agreements between Flo and Celcius, stemming from 2014 and another in 2016.

The rapper’s attorneys confirmed that he was pleased with the outcome of the case and shared his confidence that the justice system “performed well today.” He was represented by attorneys John Uustal and Cristina Pierson from the law firm Kelley Uustal. Uustal told Billboard that the rapper had taken on the company as a matter of principle.

“It was a matter of respect. He was due these shares, he worked for them, and he wasn’t going to just let it go,” Uustal said.

There are reports that Celcius plans to appeal the judgment. During the case, the rapper’s legal team detailed to jurors that he was entitled to a one (1) percent stake in Celcius per the agreements, which specified the option would come into effect if he met certain sales targets. Those were exceeded. The stake, his lawyers say, is valued at least $75 million.

Celcius, however, pushed back that the rapper had not met the sales targets and that the company owes him nothing as he has been paid “far in excess” of what the company owes him.

“A business deal is a business deal. You don’t get a do-over just because you’re unhappy with the results,” Celcius’s attorneys said as they accused the rapper of capitalizing on a payout that he doesn’t deserve.

Flo Rida’s attorneys said Celcius tried to paint him as greedy, but the jurors were able to understand the legal issues even though they were complicated.

“In our view, [the jury] came to the right conclusion,” Uustal said. “After our client finished testifying, there was no doubt that this was not a greedy individual.”

If you’re a fan of Skeng’s music, then you would know that he constantly pushes the boundaries of dark yet infectious dancehall music. “Full Moon” is no different as the deejay link up with famed Jamaican-born producer Rvssian. The AKA Ruppi-directed cut starts with two men holding torches leading the dancehall star into a dungeon where he seemingly underwent a transformation into a werewolf and was subsequently locked into a cage.

“Yeah we load up the extension clip (now)/ We gone math dis (aye bwoy)/ Coulda run inna di churchwe a knock this/ Target practice ova di pulpit/ Likkle more everything a reach transmit/ Which one a unuh wah dead fuss test mi,” deejay over a trippy beat produced by Rvssian.

The dancehall hitmaker also received a special message from collaborator Nicki Minaj who is a huge fan of his music.

Skeng, whose real name is Kevon Douglas, was arguably the biggest dancehall artist for 2022. Not only did he dominate the local and online charts, but he also was everywhere performing for his fans and constantly dropping new music.
