Mr. Vegas Says Beenie Man Bite His Style and Came For His Head

Black Immigrant Daily News

Retired dancehall artist Mr. Lexx says Beenie Man didn’t just bite his style but also came for his head back in the day.

Mr. Lexx claims that Beenie Man was not a big fan of him coming into the game, changing things up, and even opening doors for younger artists, and he also tried to start a feud that he decided to squash.

While speaking on the Tongue Talk Podcast with Razor B, the artist shared that there was a lot of gatekeeping before he had his “buss” in music, but he decided to change things up after finding success. This did not come across well with others, he said.

“It was a lot of first in the industry. First of all, before me buss, ah one artist them use to buss a year. Thru the impact that him (Bounty Killer) and Beenie Man dem have on the industry, them level one artist a year. Before me buss, it was zebra, before Zebra buss it was Vegas, before Vegas buss it was Red Rat, before Red Rat buss it was Goofy…when me buss mi come change that. Me come say ‘yow, eh eh, seven or eight ah we can be hot at the same time’… me start par wid artist Chaka Diamond, Danny English, Kiprich,” Mr. Lexx says.

Mr. Lexx added, “me come in and change da whole thing deh weh dem feel that one artist can buss… it cause three big artists [to] come at me. Three of the biggest artists. Two of them, me go back to them and say ‘yow bredda you ah mi don and suh.’”

The artist revealed that Beenie Man also started a feud with him over the changes he made and even directed a diss song at him, “World Gone Mad,” released in 1999.

Mr. Lexx says Beenie Man stole his style of using “the God voice” by deejaying like him and even recorded a song that sounded like him.

“Beenie Man shoot at me and ah deejay like me… Beenie Man yuh ah my Gad but me and you can’t have that problem there bad man,” Mr. Lexx says was his response to Beenie Man, which quickly fizzled the beef.

Mr. Lexx reveals Mad Cobra also came at him

The other artist who came at him was Mad Cobra, he revealed, but he quickly quashed any tensions from becoming a feud.

“You see this thing when them say when you get to a certain level your idols become your rivals, that’s true. I lived that,” the dancehall veteran said.

Mr. Lexx did not name the other artist, whom he referred to only as ‘such man.’

Who is Mr. Lexx

Dancehall artist Mr. Lexx, formerly known as Lexxus, is one of the most recognized names in the dancehall genre from the late 1990s to the early 2000s era. The veteran deejay, whose real name is Christopher George Palmer, was one of the most prolific deejays to rise out of Kingston in the late 90s when dancehall was at its peak. His sudden emergence on the scene at the time earned him a lot of enemies, including his famous feud with Bounty Killer.

Lexx is best known for songs like “Full Hundred,” “Ring Mi Cellie,” “Cook,” and “Good Hole.” Over the years since the peak of his career, the artist has transitioned into acting, modeling, and TV, among other segments of the entertainment industry.

Yaksta taps Usain Bolt for his new tropical feel single “Whine.”

The track is featured on the reggae/dancehall artist’s new album, 22. The party anthem features the retired athlete showcasing his vocals over a bouncy beat produced by his label A-Team Lifestyle. “Whine” sets the mood ahead of the summer party season in Jamaica, with the two artists plotting a music video to further push the single.

“We no need no Hennessy to rave/ All I need is a cup of lemonade/ A pack of rowdy wrap around my brains/ Defy gravity and levitate for days/ I can make you call me babes/ Slow strokes while I whisper in your ears,” the deejay rhymes.

22 is the debut album for Yaksta, who has been steadily making a name for himself in Jamaican music over the past few years with a catalog of conscious music. The album packs 20 singles with guest appearances from Chronic Law, Rygin King, Marlon Easy, Demarco, Monifa, and Usain Bolt. The deejay held a star-studded album release party in Kingston last week with performances from some of his musical friends, including Kranium, 10Tik, Beenie Man, Shane O, Turbulence, Munga Honorable, and Grammy winner Kabaka Pyramid.

In speaking about the project, Yaksta says he simply do music for his fans, and so far, he hasn’t missed a step.

“I do music for the people,” he told the Star. “My music aims to entertain and to educate, so I wanted to host a launch that would place me closer to my fans. My only expectations are to interact with the fans themselves, and show them the work that has gone into my album. It comes at a significant time of the year, in Reggae Month, and the plan is to let persons see how there is consciousness in dancehall.”

Yaksta is best known for songs like “Ambition,” “See and Know,” “Hype & Bruk,” and “Alchemist.”

XXXTentacion Trial: Judge Rule In Favor Of Drake To Avoid Deposition

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

The presiding judge in the murder trial of Florida rapper XXXTentacion, Judge Michael Usan, has denied a motion by a defense attorney to have rapper Drake sit for a deposition.

On Friday, the jury was excused early to allow the judge to hear arguments from Drake’s lawyer, Brad Cohen, and Mauricio Padilla, who is representing defendant Deidrick Williams, the alleged mastermind behind XXXTentacion’s murder.

Williams’ lawyer had applied to the court to force Drake to respond to a Show Cause motion as to why he should not be forced to sit for a deposition in the trial. The lawyer had argued that following X’s death, his fans had made reports that Drake might be responsible since XXXTentacion, real name Jahseh Onfroy, made statements to that effect just before he was killed.

However, on Friday, Cohen pointed out that while XXX did indeed claim that Drake wanted to harm him, he later used the same mediums on social media to state that his account was hacked and that his statements should be disregarded.

Judge Usan rejected the submission from Williams, which would essentially implicate the rapper as a suspect in the trial. The judge noted that the application to force Drake to sit for the deposition amounted to a “fishing expedition,” and he also referred to it as a “Chewbacca” defense that is harassing in nature.

“The same degree of reliability or authenticity, there’s also a tweet or Instagram saying I didn’t post that, that’s a hack. Those are the only things we have up there and if that’s the only thing you have, then this is a fishing expedition that the court is not going to sustain any further,” the judge firmly said.

He added, “We’re getting outside of the realm of what is a colourable legitimate defense and just turning into harassment. It’s like a Chewbacca defense.”

Drake had to hire counsel to represent him in court after Padilla was successful in getting a motion granted to allow him to serve Drake to sit for a deposition to support Williams’s case that he was not one of the four men on trial for the murder of XXXTentacion.

At a hearing on February 13, the rapper’s attorney said that the deposition request was “harassing,” especially since there was no other supporting evidence that showed sufficient reason.

The attorney also said that Drake had an alibi to corroborate that he was not in Florida when the murder took place and that he had “nothing to do with this case, Mr. Graham is not listed in any report, I don’t believe it has been discussed whatsoever in this case to my knowledge other than rumour and innuendo.”

“There needs to be some good faith showing at least – his phone was in the area, he was in the state of Florida at the time, there’s some sort of communication, something. There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever,” Cohen said.

In the meantime, the prosecution claims that defendant Williams is the mastermind behind XXXTentacion’s murder as he was the one who allegedly came up with the plot to block the driver’s car so they could ambush and rob him. He was caught on camera at Riva Motorsports, showing him spotting the rapper and his car in the parking lot and later in the store, and he is accused of driving the getaway car that was used to rob and kill the rapper.

T.I. Shares Court Paperwork To Shut Down Boosie Snitching Allegations

Black Immigrant Daily News

T.I. further shut down Boosie Badazz snitch allegations by showing receipts.

Rapper T.I. is providing paperwork to prove that he never snitched or cooperated with authorities and is now challenging those who question him about joining him to have a “paperwork party.” On Thursday, the Atlanta rapper shared a note and the front face of a court document seemingly to back up his earlier statements that the story was embellished and not true but merely an illustration that went over people’s heads.

“FYI…. can’t nobody who got dey name in other people’s paperwork question me about mine!” Tip wrote on Instagram Stories. “I got it on me…we can have a paperwork party… PULL UP or [hush emoji].”

via T.I. IG Story

T.I.’s did not directly mention Boosie, who spoke on the comments he made during a podcast aired in 2020 but going viral this week. Some in the hip-hop community speculated about Tip’s previous dealings with the ‘authorities’ due to his comments that he had a conversation with his dead cousin, Toot, to pin gun charges on him so he could get off since cops can’t get the dead.

Boosie said in a Vlad interview this week that he didn’t believe Tip as he never mentioned the incident during their decades-long friendship, and he believed Tip was going for podcast views when he made the comments. Nevertheless, Boosie takes a hard stance against all snitches and says that if the story is true, T.I. is no better than a “rat,” and he is ready to call their joint album off. Tip also blasted Boosie yesterday for running to the internet instead of speaking to him, and he also clarified that the comments were taken out of context.

“It came off a conversation I was having with my patna and I were having and that conversation was ‘hey bruh if me and you catch a case together and I die before you, it’s mine’…” off of that conversation, I created a set of circumstances and I thought that the embellishment was clear when I said that I talked to my cousin and he told [he was ok,’” T.I. said to Richard Benjamin from Trapper of the Trap News Network podcast.

The rapper added, “humour, satire and sarcasm, it escapes them.”

On Thursday, 50 Cent also trolled T.I. over the incident as he reshared an edited video of Boosie’s Vlad interview juxtaposed alongside T.I. on the podcast as if they were in Judge Mathis’ courtroom.

Whether the shots were for Boosie or 50 Cent, we’ll have to wait and see who responds.

Charleston White Defends T.I. while calling out Boosie Badazz

In the meantime, self proclaim ‘snitch’ Charleston White weighed in on the conversation and called out Boosie for having it easy in jail and implying that he might have received some favors in jail.

“Lil Boosie, you hollering you the last one left…Little Boosie, you must forgot Little Boosie Terrence Hatch, I know the n***as you was in Angola with. Don’t let me call Eric E-Solid up.… you did not walk the yard with killers in Angola. You was over there, you wasn’t over here. You was over there, you was not in population with the killers, the lions, gorilla, the burrows, the snakes, the tigers, the possums, and all the things the dangerous spiders they got lurking in Angola prison,” White said.

White called Boosie a “gazelle,” noting that his time in jail was nothing to talk about.

“You need to apologize to Tippy. F**k you talking about because it ain’t no paper. And everybody in the streets knows if it ain’t no paperwork it ain’t no go…You ain’t stand on a muthaf**king thing, Boosie safe as it was for you,” White added.

Meanwhile, fans were not convinced Tip was truthful.

“Google mandatory minimum sentencing and federal guidelines for automatic weapons and silencers and tell me TI not a snitch… I’ll wait,” one person wrote.

“The more Charleston keeps defending T.I. “Tippy” Harris the more I believe that Clifford had to told on something else other than his dead cousin,” another said.

Boosie has not responded to White as yet.

50 Cent Roasts T.I. and Boosie Badazz Over Spat About Snitching

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

50 Cent seems to be tickled by Boosie Badazz getting mad at T.I. after he shared a story that he was ready to rat out his dead cousin to save his skin.

Loyalty is a big deal in hip hop, and snitching is one of the gravest sins to be committed. When Tip told the story, many were quick to call him out because not only was T.I. accused of cooperating with authorities in the past, but his story also made many in hip hop, like Boosie Badazz, want to cut ties with him immediately.

On Thursday, 50 Cent also reacted to the entire fiasco, with Boosie calling off plans for them to release a joint album. Sharing a video on his account- ‘Tip Harris takes it to trial ft Boosie & Judge Mathis’ 50 Cent commented on the hilarious edited video of the respective interviews to make it seem like the rapper are responding to each other.

“I said i got the best lawyers money can buy, they said woulda got me 10 or maybe 9, I said well how do you explain how homie breezed, They said you keep ya mouth shut or you eat the cheese. YOU SO TUFF,” 50 Cent said.

The rapper’s post left fans in snitches at how it was edited, while others felt he was trying to reignite his beef with T.I.

In the video, Boosie’s clip from his Vlad interview this week was edited in as if on the stand testifying, where he shouts, “I think he went up there and just got to f**king talking.”

T.I. is also edited in with clips from his 2020 podcast ExpediTIously juxtaposed as him responding to Boosie Badazz, where he tells the story about the charges and his late cousin, Toot.

“We caught those gun cases, Toot died. My lawyer said, ‘Well, you know, I could make everything go away if it was Toot’s, it was Tremel’s,’” he said. “After he had passed, I had a talk with him,” he says.

T.I. went on, “Toot said, ‘I’ll take all the charges you got! If you can walk away free and put it on me, goddamn right! ‘Cause I’ll be damned if they gon’ come and muthafucking extradite me from here!’”

It seems that 50 Cent is the latest person to disbelieve T.I.s story as some followers also questioned how he spoke to a dead man and got permission.

On Wednesday, the Atlanta trapper responded to Boosie, who said they are no longer dropping their joint album because he was a “rat” if the story was true.

T.I., however, said he had embellished the story and used it to make a point and that it wasn’t a confession since he also had paperwork to prove exactly what happened.

Drake Toys With Retiring From Rap Gracefully, DJ Envy Last Album Request

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Drake might be getting ready to hang up the mic and possibly leave the music scene, leaving some fans emotional and DJ Envy putting in one last album request.

The rapper and his close friend Lil Yachty sat down for ‘A Moody Conversation’ against the backdrop of the beach, where they appeared to be discussing his career. Yachty is the interviewer, and Drake is talking where he says he is slowly getting to a point where he might be contemplating early retirement.

“I’m at the point now where I just like, I feel like we talked about this the other day…I feel like I’m kinda introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit,” the rapper said.

Drake has never spoken about what’s next after being named Billboard’s rapper of the 2010 decade two years ago and having an almost two-decade career that continues to evolve and reinvent itself.

The rapper is currently the most-streamed rapper in the United States, and for overall music, he is second to Bad Bunny in the world. He first came onto the scene as a Degrassi actor, but Drake worked hard to establish himself as a Canadian on the hip-hop scene that is primarily in the United States.

His early years as a rapper also saw Drake trying to break through criticisms from many on the hip-hop scene due to his lyrics deviating from the norm of hardcore lyrics.

With his latest album, ‘Her Loss’, Drake achieved 12 No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart and 12 No. 1 tracks on the Billboard Hot 100. ‘Her Loss’ released in November last year debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and sold 404,000 equivalent album units in its first week, according to stats from Luminate.

Drake’s record is third behind The Beatles with 19 and Jay-Z with 14.

The Toronto rapper previously spoke about his musical legacy and how he wanted to leave music, and he has continued to help other artists by collaborating and giving them a platform they would otherwise not have access to.

Still, we’ll have to wait and see what Drake says about retiring from music, especially since he has his OVO label that has signed a series of artists.

If Drake should retire now from hip hop, he would be hanging up the mic at almost the peak of his career. Presently, he is the most commercially success rapper in history with some major landmark title like the most streamed artist on the planet. It’s safe to say that Drake dominates the streaming era and was recently named the first artist to reach 75 billion streams on Spotify.

DJ Envy requests that Drake release a final all hip hop/rap album

DJ Envy, who is a fan of Drake music, says he wants the Canadian rapper to release an all rap album before hanging up his mic.

“I think Drake need that one album, that one hip hop/rap album,” the Breakfast Club co-host said. “That’s just me, am a Drake fan and I want that one hip hop/rap like with all these freestyles and he is going in. I need a album like that.”

Charlamagne Tha God disagrees with DJ Envy saying Drizzy is not even in his top 10 rappers of all time.

“Drake teases us because he is spitting right,” Envy responded. “I drove to the station today listening to Drake and he’s going in going crazy and I want to hear a full album like that and I think it will stop some of the doubters all the time. I mean am a Hov (Jay-Z) fan am a lyricist fan, I like when he spits.”
