Mavado Speak Out On Police Arrest Warrant and Messado $30m Case

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Mavado is expressing his frustration with the Jamaican justice system as he called on the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution to investigate a ‘mysterious’ warrant that has been issued for his arrest and also high profile attorney representing Jennifer Messado.

Mavado has been fighting a nasty battle with Messado, who has been disbarred by the Jamaican Bar Association for professional misconduct. Messado is facing several criminal charges for defrauding property owners in Jamaica and, in Mavado’s case, stealing JM$30 million dollars in a property transaction.

On Wednesday afternoon, the artist who lives in the United States lamented that the matter has been going on for almost five (5) years and is almost ready for him to testify against Messado. However, he accused Messado’s lawyer Christopher Townsend of trying to bar his testimony via satellite and allegedly being involved in a “manufactured” warrant popping up to stop him from testifying.

“Let’s talk about this so-called warrant we have heard about all of a sudden after 4 years. It seems as if some officers assigned to the Constant Spring police station, Jennifer Messado and her people are conspiring against me. The same police that locked my son up years ago are also the same police that suddenly cameup with this warrant 4 wears later, in particular one female officer who told me that Jennifer Messado is her friend. Now my people years ago when I left Jamaica, I left things in my lawyers’ hands. My lawyers – both overseas and in Jamaica, were in regular communication with the Jamaica Constabulary Force and there was never any mention of any outstanding warrants, nothing like that was said to my lawyers over a 4 year period. I wasn’t wanted for anything or any reason in Jamaica,” he began in a lengthy statement posted on his Instagram account.

He said in a caption for the post that the matter is up for hearing on Sept 29.

“Let’s hear what the judge has to say tomorrow about this fake warrant and this criminal element that stole my 30 million dollars going 5 years now without a night in Jail,” he wrote as he tagged Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness, the Opposition Leader, Mark Golding, and the Culture Minister Olivia Grange along with the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

In sharing a video of Messado walking with one shoe and the other barefoot, the deejay accused her of putting on a charade so she can escape any court sanctions.

The deejay singled out Messado’s attorney, whom he says had committed to repaying his money but instead, he accused the lawyer of not only reneging but allegedly being the one who claimed he had a warrant that never existed by suddenly popped up.

“Fast forward 4 years later to the unconnected JENNIFER MESSADO criminal trial – the case where she stole over 30 MILLION DOLLARS from me, AT THE COURT DATE PRIOR TO THE MOST RECENT ONE, her attorney Christopher Townsend all of a sudden came to court and mentioned that I am a wanted man in Jamaica, and that the reason I’m not showing up to court is because I’m running away from prosecution. He said this in a effort to prevent me from giving my statement Via satellite for my 30 MILLION DOLLARS his client stole from me, because by law if I am wanted I would not be able to do so,” he wrote.

“BUT the DPP office nor the JCF had any idea of any warrants against me. Keep in mind I am a high profile figure whose name they have had no problem calling over the years in connection with any allegation. My lawyers, the DPP office, no media NOBODY knew of this so-called warrant’s existence. The ONLY person who knew, apparently, was Christopher Townsend – Jennifer Messado lawyer. How that possible? My lawyers also checked and there were no warrants found. Furthermore Townsend is well aware his client stole my money and said to me personally he would give it back, and I have proof. He was cc’d on e-mails to return my money and he’s also been telling my lawyers to this day that he will facilitate returning my money because he didn’t want me to take it to trial. But now he’s in court trying to qet a judge to stop me from testifying and somehow is the only person who was aware of a warrant that has supposedly been in existence for 4 years that nobody knew about but him. Notice that the JCF haven’t even publicly answered journalists questions as to what the warrant is for? Are the JCF embarrassed to do so because the know its manufactured? A lot of questions need to be answered PPL,” he wrote.

In another slide, the artist also called on the DPP to investigate a warrant that has popped up. He said that previously, no warrant had existed and questioned whether there was foul play involved.

“On the morning of the most recent court date, the DPP’s second in command got my business phone number and called me around 9am to ask me if I had any idea about a warrant, because it’s time for trial and a ‘Warrant miraculously appeared’ from the Constant Spring police station. which has a well-documented history of corruption. NOW my ppl, keep in mind Christopher Townsend, Jennifer Messado’s lawyer was the first person to mention this so-called warrant! Not my lawyers not even the DPP office knew of this. He was the first person to mention to the judge that I’m wanted, so the judge ordered an investigation. The police went to all these agencies that historically have wanted to implicate Mavado for any reason they can find. None of these agencies knew about this so-called warrant. Eventually the Constant Spring police station said that a police officer has a warrant for me, but surprise surprise it couldn’t be found in the books. They then took over 6 weeks to locate a physical copy of this so-called warrant that miraculously appeared on this recent court date, where the judge was supposed to give me the go ahead to testify via satellite. I am calling on the PP office to do their job and thoroughly investigate just when this warrant was written so that they are not seen to be enabling this corruption,” he said.

In the meantime, the artist says that his matter appears to be at a standstill as he is being asked to report to the police station.

“Presently the PP office is telling my lawyers that I need to come in and deal with the warrant to be able to testify. what a set up 1. So now I’m wondering, how many more manufactured outstanding warrants are out there? Can I know before I get there? Or do I have to wait until I get there to find out? It seem as if the justice system needs to weed out its own criminals, but we keep the faith in the justice system to do the right thing in mine and everybody’s case. I would like to ask the DPP office why hasn’t Townsend been investigated for his part in all this and why hasn’t Jennifer Messado been charged for money laundering and scamming she’s a choppa,” he said.

In the meantime, the deejay also cast doubts on Messado’s mental state. There were previous reports that she was suffering from health issues, but the deejay is not convinced and said that the ex-lawyer was a ‘choppa’ (scammer).

“Speaking of choppa, pay attention to this video, this fully sane woman is in the middle of Half Way Tree posing as a mad woman! Because that’s their next defense in court on the trial date cominq up VERY SOON! I would like to remind the judge that this woman was of sound mind when she stole my 30 MILLION and is ofsound mind today,” he wrote.

The JCF has not responded to the allegations by Mavado, and the DPP is yet to address the claims.

Nigerian Star Yemi Alade Eyes More Collabs After Linking With Spice

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Who wouldn’t be excited at having a chance to collaborate with the Queen of Dancehall, Spice? One star in the afrobeats genre, Nigerian recording artist Yemi Alade, is all steamed up with the recent release of her latest single, “Bubble It,” which features Spice.

This is not her first set of work with Jamaican artists, but of course, this one is special to her since it represents two strong females coming together to strengthen the bridge that is being formed between Afrobeats and dancehall artists.

Alade has always loved dancehall and told The STAR that she realized that she and Spice were becoming good friends online, and they both began publicly showing appreciation for each other’s work.

She added that when they met face-to-face for the first time, it was in Atlanta as they were both just going about their business. That was in November 2021, and she said since then, she felt that they needed to do something together musically.

The “Oh My Gosh” singer added that in her heart, she knew they needed to take that friendship and admiration and put it into a song. With that thought at the back of her mind, when the opportunity came up, she grabbed it.

She explained that the chance presented itself when she was recording music with her producer in Ghana, and she heard a track and immediately thought of Spice. After recording her verse and chorus, she sent it to her.

The video for the track was recorded in Atlanta. It has been doing well on YouTube and has already crossed 3.7 million views. It has also received positive feedback from fans who commented on the video.

“1 million views in one day! This a certified hit! A collab we didn’t know we needed but we got it and we’re happy! ???? Spice & Yemi Alade killed this!” this fan said while another chimed in, “Big ups to mother Africa and Jamaica …. Mi appreciate dis … Always a party when Africa and Jamaica come together.”

Alade explained that the collab had great chemistry between the two artists because they both recognized that they are queens. She added that being a queen doesn’t require a crown, but it starts from the inside.

“Speaking for myself, from the beginning of my career, if anyone remembers the title of my first album was King of Queens. I had already given myself the title before the public did,” she continued.

The “True Love” artist added that for an artiste to be called a queen or a king in her or his career, it’s up to the individual and then their fans. To this end, she believes that a queen is someone who is loved and respected and can be seen as a role model.

“I love and respect my fellow female artistes whether dancehall, R&B, Afrobeats and soca…I do like Shenseea but we haven’t met as yet, and Patrice Roberts [soca star]. I want to connect with more of our global music queens and for people to continue supporting the music,” she added.

PnB Rock Case: Man Implicated In Murder Breaks His Silence

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Following the news that a suspect has been named and one arrested in PnB Rock’s murder by the Los Angeles Police Department, another man is seeking to clear his name and make sure everyone knows that he had nothing to do with the rapper’s death.

A man named Freddie Lee Trone has been named as a person of interest in the murder of the Philadelphia native. Sadly, PnB Rock was gunned down at Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles in South Los Angeles on September 12. Police have since arrested a 17-year-old man believed to be the triggerman and also the son of Freddie Lee Trone.

The man who has come forward to clear his name is a videographer by the name Emmanuel Danquah who works in Minneapolis. He also does photography and goes by the pseudonym South Side Chief. Apparently, he has been linked to the crime by various unqualified online and social media investigators who believe that he may have had the rapper killed because of an argument they had on Instagram Live in 2021 over a stolen t-shirt design.

Many of the unqualified PIs have also edited clips and have claimed erroneously that the two had beef shortly before the “Middle Child” rapper was killed.

Danquah sought to clear the air during a recent interview with the Drea O Show. He stated that he had nothing to do with the murder of PnB Rock. He also reiterated that he was nowhere near the area and that he did not make some type of OG phone call hit.

Added to that, he said he and the late rapper were on pretty good terms before the shooting and were even planning a charity boxing match together in an effort to raise funds to help rebuild Minneapolis following the destruction caused during the 2020 George Floyd protests.

He said the last time they spoke, the two were good with each other and described PnB as a real one. Danquah went on to say that the “Selfish” rapper was even going to give him a chance that would change both of their lives through the fight that they were promoting. He remains grateful to him for that, he added.

When the accusations began to fly, he said that he felt a plethora of different emotions, especially since the internet put the label of a murderer on him. He added it was difficult to watch the accusers use video out of context and just run with it.

“I just want people to know that they can’t always believe what they see on the internet. If you see the video, I’m like 200 pounds heavier and they tried to make it seem like that was the same day [as Rock’s murder],” he continued.

According to Danquah, the police have not even contacted him, and if they do, he has nothing to hide. However, he did express some hesitancy with having to speak with the authorities for fear of how he would be handled as a black man.

The argument in question seems very unlikely to result in murder. The two men had a spat after the rapper was accused of stealing his t-shirt design featuring a photo of the uprising in Minneapolis after George Floyd’s death.

Things did get heated but the most the threats escalated to was Danquah threatening to snatch PnB Rock’s chain. In subsequent interviews, Danquah even admitted to embellishing the argument to get some more clout on the internet.

Tanesha ‘Shorty’ Johnson is seemingly reacting to an interview on Fox 5 featuring Vybz Kartel’s fiancée Sidem Öztürk. Kartel shared a preview of the interview by Lisa Evers on his Instagram account.

Urban Islandz first broke the news that the Worl’Boss was engaged to Öztürk, who is Turkish. Many have been curious about the woman who has been linked to Vybz Kartel while he was reportedly still seeing Johnson. Kartel and Johnson had been together for more than a decade, and they share sons Jaheim aka Likkle Vybz, Akheel aka Likkle Addi, and Aiko, who is known as World Boss Jr.

Vybz Kartel’s upcoming EP True Religion will feature lyrics that speak to his new relationship. The artist shared the news teaser on his Instagram account. “Watch babes later pon @lisaevers…” the artist wrote on his Instagram account.

His ex, Shorty, and the mother of his children also shared a cryptic quote on her Instagram account, which many speculated was a reaction to the interview.

“A wise man told me if it doesn’t affect my pockets don’t let it affect my emotions #real,” the post said.

Shorty IG

It’s unclear when Kartel and Öztürk became engaged, but the singer has shared many photos of his fiancée at the Horizon Adult Remand Center, where he is being held for murder. Last month, a management rep said that the couple has been seeing each other since 2015 “when he was at Horizon initially and their relationship has blossomed since then.”

In the meantime, fans of the artist reacted to the news of his engagement.

“Shorty looks different,” one person commented on Twitter. “Whey the backside dis, what happened to love to Tanesha,” another person wrote. “Dwag a get fiance and mi cant evening get second date,” another opined. “Then shorty know bout dis,” one other asked.

Tanesha ‘Shorty’ Johnson also shared a video of herself dancing to one of their son’s song moment after the interview aired on TV last night in New York. In putting on an unbothered front, she did not directly addressed Ozturk, but she recently responds to some fans speculating that she and Vybz Kartel are not on good terms.

“Me and the boss good,” she said.

PnB Rock Case, 17-Year-Old Murder Suspect Arrested, Dad On The Run

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

The Los Angeles Police Department has named a suspect wanted for questioning in the murder of Philly rapper PnB Rock. A 17-year-old man, who cops say is the son of the named suspect, was also arrested by police on Wednesday.

According to TMZ, the LAPD has released a photo and the name of the suspect- Freddie Lee Trone. According to the publication, Trone is considered “armed and dangerous.” According to police, the teenager is believed to be the shooter and his father, Freddie Lee Trone, is the getaway driver who was waiting in the parking lot.

Sources say that the father and son crime duo were at Roscoe’s parking lot when PnB Rock and his girlfriend arrived in a Mercedes-Benz sedan. This means that the killer might not have known his location through an Instagram post by his girlfriend, as previously thought. After his death, fans on social media took his girlfriend to task for sharing their location on Instagram via a post of her meal on her Story.

PnB Rock was shot and killed while dining with the mother of his daughter at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in Inglewood, California.

Pnb girlfriend Stephanie Sibounheuang IG

In the meantime, police are on the hunt for the father, who remains at large and is reportedly armed and dangerous. The LAPD previously said that the shooter was whisked away from the crime scene by a getaway car waiting outside of the restaurant. During the robbery, only Rock was harmed. The killer reportedly took away gold and diamond chains from the rapper after shooting him multiple times.

PnB Rock was laid to rest according to Muslim rites last week. In the meantime, the LAPD is asking the public to assist in locating Trone and calling 911.

Earlier this month, the police said that the investigation into the rapper’s murder had crossed state lines as they were investigating if he had any beef that may have led to him being killed or whether it was just a random robbery that may be linked to him and his girlfriend posting his location shortly before his death.

The police were also investigating whether a previous robbery attempt that the rapper shared with DJ Akademiks a month before he was killed might have a link to the robbery that ended his life.

Police have not released the name of the 17-year-old suspect.

Stefflon Don Giving Back To Her Roots: “Jamaica is special to me”

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Stefflon Don is definitely enamored with Jamaican culture. That’s not difficult to understand since both her parents were born in Jamaica. Her love goes beyond simply the culture, and she intends to give back to the island that has helped to influence her musical career.

The songstress was in Jamaica to host an event in the community of Denham Town in Kingston. While there, she took some time to host a back-to-school event which she shared helped her get a close-up view of the struggles many families have to endure.

The “Moments” singer also provided grants to parents who wanted to explore small business ventures. Denham Town is well known for its high levels of crime and is one of the communities that has been declared a Zone of Special Operation (ZOSO) by the Government. The hope is that they can help the area turn from its already bloody past and become a safer area for the residents.

Stefflon Don’s first line of action will be to do motivational speaking in schools across the island. That’s just where she intends to start, but she aspires to visit classrooms worldwide to impart her wisdom and hopefully inspire students.

This is also just the beginning of her intention to give back to all the fans who have helped her build a steady and growing career. When it comes to Jamaica, she explained that the country is very special to her and that she felt the time had come to focus on it and help out however she could.

The British-based artist said there was no better time to get moving than now as the island celebrates its 60th anniversary of Independence. She also explained that Denham Town, and all the people there, are part of her roots, so she felt that it was only right that she give back in a way that the people of the community would truly benefit.

“The number-one thing I learnt is that despite the hardship and challenges the people can still find a smile and that epitomises resilience of a people. I love the Jamaican people for this,” she told the Star.

The “16 Shots” singer continued on to say that she believes that education is one of the most real ways to uplift, elevate and give hope and renewed motivation to any community facing serious challenges. In this regard, she believes she is an ideal candidate to start giving back.

“I feel like this is my mission on Earth because I am blessed with a talent … which is music … and from that music I am blessed to be able to make a good enough income to live off … but I also feel like that income should be shared. So, by the grace of God I will make a lot more money and give a lot more to the people who need it,” she added.

The “Senseless” artist also said that she would love to get even more done for the Jamaican youths. She hopes to be able to give them advice on how she was able to rise above her own challenges to become a globally successful artist.

Stefflon Don has a new song out now with Vybz Kartel.

Sizzla Calls For Vybz Kartel, Ninjaman Freedom, Performs Buju Banton’s ‘Boom Bye Bye’

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Sizzla shout-out some dancehall legends in prison, namely Vybz Kartel and Ninjaman, while paying homage to Buju Banton by performing the now disbanded classic single “Boom Bye Bye.”

The Judgement Yard icon was in his element last weekend when he performed at the Good Times party in Kingston, along with new artists he is mentoring. If you’re a fan of Sizzla, then you will know he has been one of the best live performers in reggae/dancehall for the past decades, and he is never one to shy away from controversial moments like fire burn the LGBTQ community or calling out other artists.

Around midway through his performance, Kalonji paused to hail his family and some of his comrades behind bars, including Vybz Kartel and Ninjaman, while calling for their freedom. “Big up all the youths them in a jail, Kartel, Ninjaman, and the whole a dem. Big up all a me family its time leggo the black people them now,” he said on stage before diving into performing his classic “Dry Cry.”

Vybz Kartel and Ninjaman, who have both beefed in the past, are both serving life sentences for murder. It’s unclear if they are currently housed at the same prison facility, but we do know that the former Portmore Empire leader is currently at the Horizon Remand Center.

Sizzla also caught the attention of dancehall fans who have been reacting on Twitter when he injected some lyrics from Buju Banton’s controversial single, “Boom Bye Bye.” During the performance, Kalonji said, “All ah the people them weh know say them love da party yah seh boom bye.”

Sizzla also questioned if he even could single the song. “Ah who sing da song deh?” he asked. “Mi cyaan sing da song deh, cause them fraid fi sing it?”

Urban Islandz reported in 2019 that Buju Banton issued a permanent ban on the song he released in 1992. The reggae/dancehall icon recorded and released the song when he was a teenager, something he said he has since grown and now has a different perspective.

“I recognize that the song has caused much pain to listeners, as well as to my fans, my family and myself,” Buju said in a statement sent to Urban Islandz. “After all the adversity we’ve been through I am determined to put this song in the past and continue moving forward as an artist and as a man.”

Buju Banton issued the ban just before his big performance at Summerjam in Germany. At the time, he had recently been released from prison, leaving some fans to speculate that he was pressured by the LGBTQ community to denounce “Boom Bye Bye.” His rep at the time, Ronnie Tomlinson, later denied that the singer was pressured to disband the song.

Banton has not performed “Boom Bye Bye” since around 2007, before his arrest in the United States and subsequent 10-year prison sentence for a drug conviction. It’s very unlikely he will ever perform the song again after causing him a lot of problems overseas in the past.

“Boom Bye Bye” is undoubtedly one of the most infamous anti-gay songs in reggae/dancehall history. Sizzla Kalonji might just help revive it from the trash bin.

Nicki Minaj Vents After YouTube Hit Her Video With Skeng With Age Restriction

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Nicki Minaj is blasting YouTube for adding an age restriction on her “Likkle Miss Remix” music video with Skeng. On Monday afternoon, Minaj called out YouTube as well as her label for adding the restriction or letting it be added.

According to YouTube, an age restriction might be added to a video after reviewing the content.

“When a video is age-restricted, viewers must be signed in and 18 years of age or older to view it,” the platform said.

Additionally, age-restricted videos are screened for content that has, violence, disturbing imagery, nudity, sexually suggestive content, and portrayal of dangerous activities. On Monday, Minaj claimed that YouTube was being unfair to her and that they were “in bed with a certain record label and [management] company].

“Imagine this. They restricted my f***** video but have things a million f**** times worse on their BOGUS F*** PLATFORM. this is what they do to keep you from winning while doing ads for other ppl and posting FAKE F*** STATS,” she wrote on Instagram.

Nicki Minaj Instagram

She also cursed out the label. “Because the same ppl who run YouTube are in bed with a certain record label and mngmnt company,” she added.

Nicki Minaj also theorized that there was a scheme at play to deprive her of views after the remix first dropped and lashed out at her employees at her label, whom she called “DUDS.”

Meanwhile, there were mixed reviews of Minaj’s claims, with some agreeing that the rapper’s algorithm had other artists on it when her music was searched. Others claimed that Minaj’s tactic was to generate controversy to get the song’s numbers up.

“They really have to start telling these artists the truth about these numbers and how restrictions work because this is actually pretty normal to receive from YouTube lol,” another added. “Organic reach is everything but if you want to reach more ppl outside of your target audience then you pay to run them ads (which does work). That might not be her method but it is a common method and it’s prettt stupid to knock if we being honest lol. & most importantly you don’t need a machine to do it. I too would cross promo my video on her channel, the fan base numbers speak for themselves!! Why run an ad where an audience doesn’t exist? Are we slow now?”
