NBA YoungBoy Joins Drake As Only Artists With 4 billion Streams In 2022 So Far

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

NBA Youngboy has reached another milestone in his career as he crossed the 4 billion streams threshold for 2022.

He is now the only artist alongside Drake to have reached 4 billion streams for this year, beating out many seasoned artists like Kanye West, The Weeknd, and others. The 22-year-old’s streams come mainly from his massive following in the United States, as his global streaming numbers are still very low.

The rapper, who released his fourth studio album, ‘The Last Slimeto’ over the weekend, is also experiencing another milestone as his album earned the top album debut on both global and US Spotify this weekend, according to Chart Data. One track from that album, “Free Dem 5’s,” also debuted No. 1 on the global Apple Music singles chart on Saturday.

The album, which has 30 new tracks, features artists Quavo, Rod Wave, and Kehlani.

Last week, the Recording Industry Association of America announced YoungBoy also broke another record with 100 certified gold and platinum titles.

The rapper’s accomplishment covered singles and albums where he is the lead artist, which proved that he is the dominant force behind his record streaming numbers.

Just days before the RIAA announcement, YoungBoy also shared that he has renewed his label deal with Atlantic for a cool $60 million. Atlantic had initially offered the rapper $25 million, a jump from the $2 million they had initially offered him for his first deal. However, the rapper had said in an Akademiks interview that he was not interested in any deal from Atlantic unless it was $100 million.

It’s a series of back-to-back wins for the Louisiana rapper, who was found not guilty last month for felony firearms charges in Los Angeles in a 2021 incident. He was facing 7-10 years in jail, but the judge found the prosecution’s evidence insufficient to link the rapper to the gun in question, although it was found in his car.

Fans Chant Boo During Shenseea & Skillibeng Sets At Kingston Fest Over Sound Problems

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Fans started booing during Skillibeng and Shenseea’s sets at Kingston Music Festival on Sunday in Toronto as the pair separately performed at the event marred by sound problems.

The two artists caught flack from fans due to the disorganization by the event organizers, who have been accused of not putting proper security measures in place, leading to patrons pushing down a fence separating general admission from the VIP section. To be clear, the problems were not of the artistes fault but appears to be on the part of the event producers.

A video shared on Tik Tok users showed the fence falling and patrons getting trampled on as others behind ran into the VIP section was separated by a large space. There were also light and sound issues during Shenseea and Skillibeng’s performance leading to fans not hearing them.

On Tik Tok, a user shared a video showing fans at the back chanting “we can’t hear, we can’t hear,” while the two artists were on the stage. “I wanted to see Skillibeng so bad and could barely hear him. They need to apologize to him Rs and Shenseea too,” one person said.

Another woman who vented about the event claimed that it was highly disorganized to the point that the sound engineer took three hours to get to the venue to fix the sound, and he was only able to fix it in time for Popcaan’s performance.

“Coming there at 6 o clock, the event started at 1 o clock, there is no water, no chasers… you couldn’t have sent one of your bartenders to go to Walmart to pick up some water? It’s one of the hottest days of the summer,” the woman vented.

“Mans can’t hear, Skillibeng, Big international artist Skillibeng, Popcaan, Shenseea and Chronic Law – the man Chronic Law came for the first time to Toronto and this is how you treat him? You put your guests at risk,” the woman said.

A video of Skillibeng on stage was also disrupted by patrons who boo’ed the artist off the stage.

“Toronto boo’ed Skillibeng off the stage because his mic wasn’t working. We waited HOURS to see him perform,” one Tik Tok user said.

In the video, the artist is seen on stage wearing camouflage pants and black t-shirt singing, but he appears to stop mid-performance as he acknowledges the fans who were shouting, “we can’t hear, we can’t hear,” at him.

Other videos showed Skillibeng on stage, but the audio was not loud enough. The artist’s background music seemed to be playing, but sounds from his mic were heard.

“Kingston Music Festival…one of the worst events this whole year, worse experience ever,” one person wrote.

In the meantime, attendees at the event, which was held in North York, are demanding refunds from the organizers.

In the meantime, Popcaan, who also performed at the venue, used his set to criticize organizers for their poor efforts as he referenced the fact that his hardworking fans paid good money to go to the event and deserved better. The artist said he wanted to leave but decided to stay and perform for his fans.

Kingston Music Fest organizers have not publicly addressed the issues raised.

Fivio Foreign Takes Credit For Reviving Mase Career

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Fivio Foreign has no intention to stop taunt Mase and is even taking credit for reviving the former Bad Boy rapper’s career.

The back and forth between the two started back in July, following a Fivio Foreign appearance on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast. During the interview, the Brooklyn rapper claimed that in 2019 he signed a questionable recording contract with Mase’s RichFish label. He even controversially revealed that his production deal included a paltry $5,000 advance.

Eventually, Mase got word of what was said and disputed Fivio’s account of events saying the rapper was given much more money later in the contract.

The “Tell Me What You Want” rapper even gave financial details about how part of the contract broke down.

“At one time, I gave him $5,000, but I gave him $750,000… because I set him up to do a deal to where I can control the deal, make the deal what it should be because I knew if he had the leverage, he would go in there and sell both of us out,” he said.

According to Mase, when they attended that meeting, he took $800,000, and the “Top Notch” rapper took $700,000. He added that the offer went down to $700,000 because he gave him $750,000, and he took $750,000, so Fivio still owed him $50,000.

Fivio Foreign followed up his previous claims by revealing that he was in the studio working on an unreleased track that is a definite sample of Mase’s 1997 hit “What You Want” featuring Total.

Now, he’s back at it and once again took to Instagram to share that, according to him, he single handily revived Mase’s career. In the clip, he again looks to the track “What You Want” for inspiration.

“Single handidly bringing n****s bacc to life,” Fivio captioned the post. As a further taunt, he added laughing and fire emojis.

Pardison Fontaine Disses The Rock’s Wife After Thee Stallion ‘Pet’ Comment

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Pardison Fontaine is marking his territory as he shares that he is not here for actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s wanting to be one of Megan Thee Stallion’s pets.

On Sunday, The Rock was asked which celebrity dog he would prefer to be if he could be one, and he replied that he wanted to be Megan Thee Stallion’s pet.

The actor was talking about his upcoming movie DC League of Super-Pets with Kevin Hart. He sat down with Hart for a hilarious conversation, but while social media found the Rock’s response that he wanted to be one of Meg’s dogs hilarious, Pardi is not entertaining it.

In a comment left on a Shaderoom post, Pardi stamped his authority as he said that Rock wouldn’t make a good pet for Megan while also mentioning that the actor has a wife. “All Our dogs is named after #s… Just teach ya wife how to use seasoning… You’ll be iight… Moana is the shit tho,” he wrote.

The clip has since gone viral with Rock, who plays the role of Krypto The Super-Dog in the upcoming Marvel flick.

“What celebrity would you want to be a pet to?” the interviewer asked. The Rock quickly responded with, “Megan Thee Stallion.” Kevin Hart laughed as he asked why. “We don’t have to talk about that,” the Rock said

Megan Thee Stallion and Pardison have six dogs that they’ve named after numbers. Megan owns three French Bulldogs, a Pit Bull, a Merle dog, and a Cane Corso, and she has shared her love for them in many of her hilarious TikTok videos and Instagram reels.

They were also featured on her Snapchat series ‘Off Thee Leash’ with Megan Thee Stallion.

In the meantime, Megan has been busy with her upcoming album. On Monday, she teased that all of the female rappers sent in their verses for her project.

“I really got some of the BADDEST women on my album!” she said.

Back in July, she also teased a collaboration with Future for the album and released the name “Pressurelicious” for her fans,

“So happy abt my album,” she wrote. “it’s finished. it’s for the hotties. it’s honest. it’s me. it’s real,” she said.

Irv Gotti Called Out, Says He Banged Ashanti Before Recording ‘Happy’

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Irv Gotti catches more heat after sharing he and Ashanti relationship inspired her hit single “Happy.”

Irv Gotti is claiming Ashanti’s hit song “Happy,” released in 2002, was written right after he and the singer had sex. The two are no longer on speaking terms after Ashanti signaled in 2019 that she wanted complete control of her masters, and she has made efforts to re-record her albums produced by Murder Inc. after Gotti refused to hand them over.

In his Drink Champs interview, Irv Gotti says he and Ashanti were romantically involved and that their ‘relationship’ “helped” her career as he shared a story he says will be explored in his Murder Inc. documentary.

According to him, he was the one who came up with the lyrics for the track. “It helped her,” Irv says when asked if his alleged fling with Ashanti affected their business relationship.

“We just finished sleeping together, or whatever, I’m taking a shower. I’m in the shower, you know, a n****a be creative after [sex] … I think of the whole track in the shower,” Irv says as he sings the melodies of the song.

Irv Gotti said after showering, he goes to producer Chink Santana. The producer said he wanted the song to be a summertime feel-good joint that came about as a result of the energy he and Ashanti shared at the time.

Gotti seems to have a beef with Ashanti, on whom the majority of his interview focused, as he also shared that he was hurt when he found out that she and Nelly were dating.

Gotti also shared that he was hurt when Ashanti started dating Nelly and also revealed that he learned about their relationship after seeing them on TV at an NBA game.

Gotti’s latest statements are inconsistent with others he made in the past, including those from a previous Wendy Williams interview where he said that he and Ashanti never had sex.

Ashanti has not responded to any of Gotti’s ramblings on Drink Champs. Fans online called Gotti obsessed, and many are of the view that being bitter, Gotti ended Ashanti’s career over his hurt feelings.

“Irv Gotti need stop using Ashanti name for clout, it’s been 20 years MOVE ON BITTER BETTY. She didn’t want to be the side chick to a married man anymore. I wonder how his ex-wife (maybe) feel, she the one who got dealt a awful hand,” one fan said.

“It’s crazy how he continues to tell on himself by admitting to things when it’s known that he was married during these escapades. He says him and his wife were separated at the time but he also said him & Ashanti never had sex. So we don’t know what to believe,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“Irv Gotti beat the Feds in a million-dollar money-laundering trial but instead of telling that story, he chooses to talk about that time he slept with Ashanti 20 years ago,” another said.

“The way Irv gotti referencing Ashanti on drink champs you would think he wanna fight her and he’s definitely hurt,” another added.

Skeng Focusing On Wellness After Recent Health Scare

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Skeng channels his focus on his health after he recently hit the pause button due to exhaustion and dehydration.

One of dancehall’s fastest rising stars, Skeng, has been ordered to rest before returning to the stage. The information comes following his recently canceled performance at Dream Weekend. According to the organizers of the show, the “Protocol” deejay was deemed medically unfit to get on stage.

Skeng’s co-manager and music consultant, Cara Vickers, confirmed the information with The Star. She shared that the 21-year-old artist was extremely disappointed that he could not entertain his fans but also realized that his health was of paramount importance.

Vickers revealed that before the performance Skeng, whose real name is Kevon Douglas, admitted that he was not feeling well and that he was concerned about it. She added that he might have been feeling drained because of how many back-to-back performances he had in recent times. Thankfully, in the end, it turned out to be dehydration.

Vickers revealed that the “Life Changes” deejay is feeling much better and should be performing in a show in Grenada with Shaneil Muir next Saturday.

Skeng’s rise to the top has been fast, and he has been requested for performances worldwide since the beginning of 2022. Vickers went on to explain that he has been traveling since the start of the year, including places around the globe like the US, UK, and all over the Caribbean region.

Skeng

She further explained that the busyness of his schedule and the fact that he was constantly waking up in different time zones had negatively impacted his sleep schedule.

That being said, she added that he is a hard worker and fully committed to seeing his dream of dominating in dancehall. With this goal in mind, he is fully aware that he must put in the long hard hours and make the sacrifices that many fans don’t see, Vickers shared.

“If Skeng starts something, he has to finish and he records up to four songs in one session [so] for every hit that goes out through public speakers, him dash down three or more songs in one session. I guess it has taken a toll,” she said.

On top of his desire to put out great music, he is also committed to his onstage performance. That means long and hard hours of back-to-back rehearsals for shows. Vickers shared that part of Skeng’s practice even includes exercising to have proper breathing techniques.

To this end, he is not taking his health for granted and has been focusing on eating on time but may have forgotten somewhere along the line to keep himself hydrated between studio time and performing live.

It seems that the young artist has quite a work ethic as well. Vickers revealed that even though he was ordered to rest by his doctor, he still wanted to record, which is made easier for him because he has access to two in-house studios.

Following his upcoming performance next weekend, he intends to take September and October to rest and record.

Vickers also revealed that Skeng is working on an EP and is now in talks with international female rapper Nicki Minaj about future collaborations. She also disclosed that there might also be a few European and British collaborations in the near future.

She added that the team is committed to helping him realize his dream, but he must rest when needed.

“Bond” Actress Lashana Lynch Cast As Rita In Bob Marley’s Biopic

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Lashana Lynch will play the iconic Marley matriarch, Rita Marley, in Bob’s upcoming movie.

The No Time To Die actress has been cast to play the role of Bob Marley’s Wife, Rita, in an upcoming Paramount Biopic on the life of Bob Marley. Paramount has been casting for the right characters since last year, and they have finally settled on Lynch, who also has Jamaican roots. Lynch, who was born in West London, Britain, to Jamaican parents, made history as the first female black 007 agent in the hit James Bond franchise based on books by author Ian Fleming who wrote all of the books from his Goldeneye winter home in Jamaica.

According to Deadline on Friday, Lynch will star as Rita Marley, in the yet untitled Bob Marley biopic alongside actor Kingsley Ben-Adir, who will play the legendary Reggae singer. Paramount has tapped Oscar-winning director Reinaldo Marcus Green helming, who is well-known for his recent King Richard biopic that focuses on the father of Venus and Serena Williams.

According to Deadline, the actress was selected from a large casting call examining actresses with a Jamaican background. There were also chemistry checks to see if the actress would be suitable to work with Ben-Adir. Deadline also said that the Marleys, including Rita and other family members, were part of the final decision to select Rita’s character.

Bob Marley and Rita Marley

The biopic will be produced by Rita, her son Ziggy Marley and daughter Cedella Marley on behalf of Tuff Gong Records, along with producer Robert Teitel and scriptwriters Green and Zach Baylin.

Bob Marley gained legendary status long before his death in 1981 when he was just 36. The singer died of cancer, but by that time, he had lived a full life, having already gotten married and had several children with his wife, and left a major impact on the world with his reggae music that spread to the corners of the globe. The genre has become very popular undoubtedly thanks to Marley’s music, although his friends and brother Dennis Brown and Peter Tosh also made their mark.

His songs “Get Up, Stand Up,” “One Love,” “No Woman, No Cry,” “Could You Be Loved,” “Buffalo Soldier,” “Jammin’,” and “Redemption Song” continue to sit on reggae music charts worldwide as the artist’s fame grows every year.

In the meantime, the biopic will focus on Bob’s and Rita’s love story and their marriage. Rita and Bob fell in love as the latter was just getting into music. A singer herself, she eventually became a member of Marley’s Bob Marley and the Wailers group as a backup singer.

Her own early story showed she was a member of The Soulettes, which Marley mentored before the two fell in love. They later got married as Marley was migrating to the U.S with his mother and his marriage led to the artist not being able to get his green card as he was not allowed to get married until after his status was regulated.

More details on the biopic are yet to be released.

Mase Squash Longstanding Beef With Cam’ron Says He Regrets Feud

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Mase is beefing with a lot of people, but fellow rapper Cam’ron is no longer one of them, as the rapper shared that he and the Harlem rapper have buried the hatchet.

In the heyday, while he was Killa Cam and Mase was a Bad Boy rapper, the two Harlem rappers carried on an intense beef that has spanned decades starting in 1999 and continued publicly up to 2017 when they traded diss at each other.

However, an Instagram video posted by Stason Betha shows Mase having a conversation with Cam’ron. “Killa what’s good,” Mase says as he smiles at the video and then laughs.

The two men have a friendly exchange that lasts for a few seconds on the video, something starkly different from the insults and disrespect they have both shown each other over the years.

Last week while on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Mase revealed that he regretted beefing with the other Harlem rapper and explained what had caused the beef to start.

Mase said that he and Cam’ron problems started becase the Dipset rapper thought he had money that he didn’t truly have. He said that in the 90s he was flexing real hard during his time with Diddy’s Bad Boy imprint and his friends thought he had a lot of money that he wasn’t sharing with them.

“By the time I got the bag we was enemies already. So I didn’t get to break ’em off,” Mase said.

The rapper said that he was hurt over the beef. “That’s one of the relationships I regret,” he said about his past beef with Cam’ron. “I think I got two that I regret, and going at Killa, I wanted to do that but that was like my n***a, you know what I’m saying? So that really hurt me.”

It’s unclear when Mase squashed the beef as the two rappers also traded diss at each other in 2017 when the former released his album ‘Oracle’. At the time, Cam’ron had accused Mase of leaving rap to start a Ponzi scheme, while Mase had said he was going off to ministry to become a pastor.

As for Mase, he’s down one enemy but more to go as he has several active beefs with Diddy, who still owns his masters, and 50 Cent, who called him out for locking down Fivio Foreign in a ridiculous contract, and it seems that Fivio Foreign is also beefing with the Bad Boy rapper.

In his interview with Gillie and Wallo, he also touched on his beef with Diddy and why he’s still upset at the label boss. Mase said that he didn’t feel appreciate and adequately compensated and so he has deep resentment for Diddy. He also accused the rap mogul of holding him back.

NBA YoungBoy Drops ‘The Last Slimeto’, Celebrates 100 Platinum & Gold Certifications

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

NBA YoungBoy drops his new album The Last Slimeto as he celebrates over 100 platinum and gold certifications at the young age of 22.

YoungBoy Never Broke Again is celebrating another milestone as he earned 100 top certified titles from the Recording Industry Association of America. The Baton Rouge rapper’s feat also comes at the young age of 22 years old despite the fact that he has been in rap music since he was 16 years old and enjoys immense success as the second most streamed hip-hop artist after Drake.

On Thursday, the RIAA announced that the new achievement covered gold and platinum titles, dozens of which are singles, and about half of a dozen are albums multiple times certified.

“Congratulations to #YoungBoyNeverBrokeAgain and his @AtlanticRecords & @neverbrokeagain teams on separate #RIAATopCertified titles,” the RIAA wrote on Twitter.

The rapper’s latest accomplishment notably covers his singles and albums, where he is the lead artist.

Ahead of his album, The Last Slimeto, dropping today August 5th, NBA YoungBoy is also racking up more streams with his existing music. According to Chart Data on Thursday, YB’s “Outside Today” was certified 4x Platinum in the United States.

It’s the latest in a string of upward movements in the Louisiana rapper’s career, which includes him falling in third place with 2.4 million among the best-selling artists by album units this year in the United States. Ahead of him is Taylor Swift at number two with 3.1 m and Drake at the top with 3.9 m.

NBA YoungBoy is ahead of artists like The Weeknd and Kanye West on the same list, but he does not appear on the global streamed artist list.

In the meantime, YoungBoy has more RIAA certifications than artists like Future and J.Cole, and his latest album is expected to tip his achievements towards an unbeaten record.

As for his latest album, it is the final in his current deal with Atlantic, which the rapper has been beefing with for months. Previously the rapper had told Akademiks that he rejected a $25 million deal with Atlantic to re-sign a new deal because he wanted $100 million.

The Last Slimeto cover

Earlier in the year, the rapper had shared that the label was unsupportive as he lashed out at them.

“Everything y’all post, Atlantic try to make it seem like I’m talking about them so they can try to sue me once the time’s up,” he had said in a voice note shared on Akademiks’ Instagram. “Man, tell them people suck my dick. Leave me alone, bitch. Ain’t nobody talking about y’all. I hate y’all bitches. I hate y’all more than y’all hate me. Leave me alone.”

However, things seemed to have taken a different turn weeks ago as the rapper shared this week that he signed a new deal with Atlantic for $60 million.

The eye-watering amount has led to rappers like Kodak Black calling for a re-negotiation of his deal with the label.

YoungBoy’s new album, The Last Slimeto, features guest appearances from Kehlani, Rod Wave, and Quavo. The project packs a whopping 30 songs and debut at No. 1 on iTunes.
