Nathalie Sebastien, President of Société Aéroport Martinique Aimé Cesaire (S.A.M.A.C.), praised the new routes: “The arrival of Caribbean Airlines marks a significant milestone in improving Martinique’s connectivity within the Caribbean region.”

United Airlines Launches Non-Stop Flights from Newark to Dominica

News Americas, New York, NY, October 1, 2024: Dominica is set to receive a boost in tourism with the launch of a new non-stop flight from New York/Newark to Dominica’s Douglas-Charles Airport (DOM). United Airlines will operate the new service starting on February 15, 2025, with flights departing from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) every Saturday. This marks the second direct flight route from the U.S. to Dominica.

United is set to fly directly to Dominica next year

The decision to introduce this new route comes after significant upgrades to Dominica’s Douglas-Charles Airport, including a 6,351-foot runway extension and new runway grooving, which enhance safety, reduce flight cancellations, and accommodate larger aircraft. The terminal also received improvements to increase capacity and efficiency.

“This new service by United Airlines is a major step toward achieving the island’s ambitious goals,” said Dominica’s Minister of Tourism, Hon. Denise Charles-Pemberton. “It will alleviate the access constraints Dominica has faced for years.”

This direct connection from the tri-state area, one of Dominica’s largest U.S. source markets, is expected to provide a major boost to the island’s tourism industry. Several new hotels are also set to open in 2025, adding nearly 500 rooms and increasing hotel capacity by 25%, just in time for what is anticipated to be one of Dominica’s busiest travel seasons.

Marva Williams, CEO of the Discover Dominica Authority, highlighted the significance of the route. “The increased capacity will allow U.S.-based tour operators to confidently book group travel to Dominica, offering more travelers the opportunity to experience our world-class diving, hiking, wellness, and cultural offerings.”

The launch of this new flight also coincides with Dominica’s famous Mas Domnik Carnival, set for March 3-4, 2025. Known as the “Real Mas,” this Carnival celebrates traditional customs with calypso music, competitions, and exciting festivities. More details on the event will be announced soon.

“We are proud to partner with Discover Dominica Authority to add Dominica to our global route network,” said Matt Stevens, United Airlines’ Vice President of International Network. “This route will give our customers access to one of the most unique destinations in the world.”

For more information or to plan your trip to Dominica, visit www.discoverdominica.com. Direct flights can be booked on united.com or via the United app, pending government approvals.

Canada Issues Travel Warnings For Two Caribbean Nations

News Americas, New York, NY, September 30, 2024: Canada is advising its nationals to exercise a high degree of caution when traveling to two Caribbean nations – Belize and Cuba – due to concerns over crime and shortages.

Belize Travel Advisory:

Canada is warning nationals to exercise caution if travelling to Belize.

Canadian authorities have issued a cautionary warning, particularly for Southside Belize City, where they recommend avoiding non-essential travel due to gang and drug-related violence, including murders and shootings.

Southside Belize City:
Gang violence is a significant issue, especially in Southside Belize City, where disputes are often resolved with weapons, and clashes between gangs over control of illegal activities are frequent. The police’s capacity to respond to violent incidents is limited, and many crimes remain unsolved. While tourists are not typically targeted, the risk of being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time remains.

Elsewhere in Belize:
Violent crime is a major concern throughout Belize, including in the capital, Belmopan. The country has one of the highest per capita murder rates globally, with drug and human trafficking, organized crime, and gang activity prevalent. Violent incidents such as murders, armed robberies, muggings, and sexual assaults are frequent. There has also been an increase in violent incidents against foreign residents, including home break-ins and physical assaults.

Cuba Travel Advisory:

For Cuba, Canada has also issued a warning to “exercise a high degree of caution” due to widespread shortages of basic necessities, including food, medicine, and fuel.

Petty Crime:
Petty crime, such as pickpocketing and purse snatching, is common, particularly in crowded tourist areas, markets, public buses, nightclubs, and beaches. Theft from hotel rooms, especially in private accommodations (casas particulares), and from cars is also frequent.

Travelers to both nations are encouraged to stay vigilant and avoid high-risk areas to ensure their safety.

Visa Free Travel To Thailand To End For These Caribbean Countries

News Americas, New York, NY, Tues. Sept. 24, 2024: Beginning December 1, 2024, travelers from five Caribbean nations will no longer have visa-free access to Thailand. Instead, they will need to secure an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before visiting by air, sea, or land. This new requirement is part of Thailand’s broader efforts to enhance immigration controls and strengthen border security for international visitors.

Travelers from the following Caribbean nations will now need to apply for an ETA before traveling to Thailand:

Cuba
Dominica
Dominican Republic
Jamaica
Trinidad and Tobago

Previously, visitors from these nations could enter Thailand without a visa.

Thailand has long been a favored destination for Caribbean tourists, with its beautiful beaches, rich culture, and vibrant cities attracting increasing numbers of visitors from Havana, Santo Domingo, and Kingston. Caribbean travelers can easily apply for their ETA online through Thailand’s official e-Visa portal. The process is fully digital and will be free of charge.

The ETA will allow a single entry into Thailand and is valid for up to 60 days. Travelers who wish to extend their stay can apply for a one-time extension of an additional 30 days, enabling longer visits without the need for multiple re-entries. The online process is user-friendly, allowing travelers to obtain their travel authorization without any hassle. Visitors must present their ETA upon arrival in Thailand, and those who fail to comply with the new rules or overstay their authorized time may face penalties.

News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Mon. Sept. 23, 2024: Luxury cruise line Explora Journeys has revealed new Caribbean destination experiences for 2024 and 2025. The Explora II will reach the Caribbean in November 2024, and Explora I will follow suit in December. Travelers can enjoy the region’s vibrant landscapes, like stunning beaches, lively coral reefs, and ancient architecture, while immersing themselves in diverse cultures. True to the luxury Explora Journeys offers, these destination experiences are set to be intimate, with only a maximum of 25 guests per group for a slower and more relaxed exploration. Here’s a look at the Explora Journeys cruise line and the Caribbean destination experiences it will be offering:

A Look At Explora Journeys

Explora Journeys marked a milestone in August 2023 when the first vessel from the luxury cruise line, Explora I, set sail on her maiden voyage. Despite being one of the newer luxury cruises in the industry, Explora Journeys has been establishing itself as a top choice for cruise travelers looking for immersive experiences and unique destinations. Aside from its Caribbean and Central America tours, it also offers itineraries for the Mediterranean and Western Europe as well as the Red Sea and the Arabian Peninsula, showcasing its diverse offers that all kinds of guests will enjoy. The luxury cruise line also prides itself on offering a perfect blend of celebrated destinations with off-the-beaten-path ports, allowing for a deeper exploration of cultural, historical, and culinary offerings that guests can choose to extend or combine for more opportunities.

Caribbean destination experiences

Explora Journeys’ commitment to offering curated journeys and inspiring travel opportunities is reflected in its Caribbean shore experiences for 2024 and 2025. Guests can bask in the local landscapes and culture like never before, gaining a new perspective on this vibrant region. Travelers can snorkel in Director’s Bay at Willemstad, Curaçao, marveling at the diverse marine life while learning about endangered coral reefs from an experienced marine biologist, followed by a visit to a mangrove reservoir. At Saint-Pierre, Martinique, guests can explore Martinican rum culture at Rhum Clément, where ‘rhum agricole’ originated. This includes a guided tour of the estate, its gardens and rum cellars, and a rum tasting paired with gourmet dishes. Beachside relaxation and culinary delights are in store at the five-star Rosewood Le Guanahani resort in Gustavia, St. Barths, which includes a three-course meal and snorkeling in the Caribbean sea. History buffs will enjoy the visit to the ancient Mayan city of Uxmal, which is accompanied by a lunch of regional specialties in the Hacienda Xocnaceh’s church and a Mayan purification ceremony. A flight from Chichén Itzá from Cozumel, Mexico offers a guided tour of the ancient city for a closer look at the history and architecture.

A Different Kind Of Luxury

Explora Journeys boasts top-of-the-line experiences travelers won’t easily find anywhere else, but aside from premium locations and amenities, the intimate and insightful tours offer a new take on luxury. The Caribbean destination experiences showcase the luxury cruise line’s desire to give guests a deeper look at the regions the ships will visit. Taking trips in smaller groups also offers a slower pace of travel to encourage travelers to embrace nature, architecture, and cuisine to the fullest rather than dealing with crowded ports and tourist destinations. These experiences offer more than a relaxing stay; they provide an informative glimpse at the region’s cultures and history for a greater appreciation of the Caribbean.
