Former Minister Says Police Officers ‘Too Political’ – St. Lucia Times News

Former National Security Minister Hermangild Francis has spoken regarding politics in the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF).

“The advice I would give the police officers presently is to take the politics out of the police force. They are too political. There are police officers there that when you listen to them speaking, they are even more au courant with the politics than the politicians,” Francis declared.

He spoke during an appearance on Wednesday’s edition of Good Morning Saint Lucia on Hot 7 Television.

The former Deputy Police Commissioner told programme Host Shannon Lebourne that some of the senior officers influence some youngsters.

“When I was a police officer of course, I knew where I was voting. Of course, I knew where I was voting. I voted, but when it came to my job I was brutal. Whether you were UWP or Labour I would do what I had to do,” Francis stated.

He described it as ‘ a lot of hogwash’ claims that politicians are interfering with the RSLPF.

Francis said if an officer allows that to happen, that individual should not be in the force.

“If the Commissioner allows a Minister to call him and tell him to withdraw a charge against a particular person and he does it, then he does not deserve to be Commissioner of Police,” Francis asserted.

“You cannot interfere with the police force. It has to be a hands-off situation,” the former Minister noted.

Francis said people associate some officers with the United Workers Party (UWP).

“I can give you one example. People talk about the Deputy Commissioner and they said that he is a United Workers Party person and when you look at everything else that has happened, that is not so. They guy did his job,” he explained.

“He was the one who was sent to Bordelais and when he was sent to Bordelais at a higher rank, it was not the United Workers Party that sent him there. It was the Saint Lucia Labour Party that sent him there and then he came back to the police force at a higher rank, applied, went through the process of the Public Service Commission – he was the best at the interviews and became the Deputy Commissioner. But because he stopped a politician and another person who is associated with a party, he becomes political and that is the mistake we make,” the former Minister said

“Allow police officers to do their work. They will do what they are supposed to do,” Francis observed.

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Radio Isla TV

Digicel Group Holdings Limited (Digicel) has announced the completion of the sale of Digicel Pacific Limited, its wholly owned subsidiary, to a subsidiary of the Australian telecommunications company Telstra Corporation Limited, with funding from the Australian Government, through Export Finance Australia.

The transaction values Digicel Pacific at up to US$ 1.85 billion, inclusive of a three-year, US$ 250 million earn-out, equating to approximately 8.3 times DPL’s adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of approximately US$222 million in the year ended March 31, 2021.

A payment of US$ 1.6 billion, before deduction for customary working capital and other adjustments, is payable to DGHL upon closing of the transaction and Digicel expects to achieve the maximum earn-out payment of US$ 50 million in respect of the first earn-out period which is based on service revenue performance for the year ended March 31, 2022.

Digicel has also reported that the Independent State of Papua New Guinea has agreed to enter into a binding international arbitration process to resolve the disputed one-time PGK 350 million (approximately US$ 99.4 million) exit tax and to waive a further PGK 50 million (approximately US$ 14.2 million) sought in respect of non-payment of the tax to date.

As part of this process US$ 99.4 million has been placed in escrow on closing pending the outcome of the arbitration which will take place in Singapore.

Digicel Pacific operates in six markets in the South Pacific including Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, Tonga and Nauru.

There will be no change to the Digicel brand in the six markets and the current management team will remain with and continue to lead the business delivering best-in-class telecommunications services to Digicel Pacific’s valued customers throughout the region.

Nicki Minaj Cancels UK Meet & Greet Draws Huge Crowd At Wireless Festival

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Nicki Minaj was forced to cancel one of her meet and greets in the UK amid police struggling to control large crowds.

Nicki Minaj delivered to fans at her Wireless performance over the weekend despite arriving at the festival performance late and leaving fans irate at her tardiness.

It was mayhem ahead of Nicki Minaj’s performance as fans rushed the venue and can be seen in videos pushing against security personnel to get into the event ahead of the Queen’s appearance.

Nicki Minaj, however, arrived more than 30 minutes late and did not apologize, which set off fans who attended the event hours ahead of her performance time just to see her.

To make matters worse, Minaj was only able to get in a 40-minute set rather than the full 80-minute set she was booked for, and while it was short and sweet, the performance was still affected by technical difficulties and disruptions during her set due to sound issues.

According to fans on Twitter, the artist’s mic and the monitor sounds had delayed feedback which affected Nicki Minaj’s performance, and she even asked fans to excuse her as she took a break in the middle of her set.

“Can you guys give me 30 seconds,” she said to the crowd.

Fans were also patient with her request for time for a wardrobe change, but some were not too pleased as the time ran up to the 9.30 pm curfew hour in London.

In the meantime, Nicki’s star power was on full display as videos were shared online showing massive crowds in the streets waiting on the rapper. According to Metro UK, hundreds of festival attendees rammed the area leading into Wireless in sweltering 30 degrees Celsius heat. Police also struggled to control the crowds as many climbed fences and rushed the venue. There were reports that a fan was crushed as police struggled to manage the large crowds that surrounded the venue.

On Monday, videos also showed hundreds of fans running in the streets around Finsbury Park to get a glimpse of the artist, who was photographed heading to her meet and greet. All was not well, though, as Minaj was seen shoving a fan out of the way as many pressed into and around her from all angles.

In the video, Nicki Minaj can be heard screaming to the fan “back” and “move” as she physically pushed the woman who was taking a selfie video with her.

There is also a video showing the rapper sitting out of a Benz Truck surrounded by thousands of fans who turned up at her meet and greet.

On Twitter, she addressed the chaos seen in the streets of London.

“Guys, if you don’t get in a contained space they won’t let me get out the cars. Pls don’t run in the streets. Please get in 1 place. 1 line,” she wrote on Twitter.

After approaching the JFF to help revive the team, she became an ambassador who helped raise funds and build brand awareness to attract corporate sponsorship.

The Reggae Girlz went on to qualify for the 2019 World Cup and now the 2023 World Cup making it back-to-back qualification.

Cardi B’s Sophomore Album Could Arrive This Summer

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Cardi B dropped some hints that her sophomore album could be released this summer.

The long wait for Cardi B fans may soon be over. For about four years, fans have been eagerly anticipating her sophomore album, but it’s been delayed for various reasons, including technical difficulties.

However, it seems like the long vigil may soon be over, as, in a recent interview with Vogue Singapore, the Bronx rapper revealed her new album is just around the corner.

That’s according to journalist Amelia Chia who wrote in the cover story and is quoted as saying, “she tells me firmly that she’s not waiting very long – ‘a month or two’ – before her next single, and album, gets released.” Cardi is also the cover page of the July/August issue.

It is believed that the single in question is the “Bodak Yellow” rapper’s recently released “Hot Sh*t” collaboration with Kanye West and Lil Durk.

Even though the album has been delayed, she has been putting in the work with singles which are also expected to feature on her next album. They include “WAP” featuring Megan Thee Stallion and “Up.”

At the beginning of this year, she shared with fans some of the challenges she faced in trying to get the album done, including her “ghetto ass studio,” which was built inside her home.

In addition to that, she also complained about other technical difficulties but always vowed that she would not give up the fight to release her next album. Very little is known about the upcoming album except the two singles mentioned above will feature. Something that she had to defend, as well as some fans, criticized her for trying to increase her streaming numbers by including the tracks.

Whatever the circumstances, fans are looking forward to hearing what she has in store since the release of her 2018 debut Invasion Of Privacy.

Popcaan Confronted By Females After Professing Love For Toni-Ann Singh

Black Immigrant Daily News

Popcaan’s female fans are not too happy that he is off the market after going public with relationship with former Miss World Toni-Ann Singh.

The Jamaican artist has signaled that he is no longer free and single following the release of his song “Toni-Ann Singh,” where he professes his love for her and even promises commitment in the form of marriage.

The song appears on Burna Boy‘s new album Love, Damini, where Popcaan appears to be either provoking fans or confirming that he and the Miss Jamaica World beauty queen are a couple.

Popcaan recently shared several photos and videos of him and Singh, which sparked rumors that they are in a relationship. They were seen together in a private jet on the way to Grenada last month, and they were also seen spending quality time earlier this month.

In the meantime, Popcaan does not shy away from publicly expressing his love for Singh, as he describes the desire to one day marry her and make her his Mrs. Sutherland. Popcaan’s real name is Andre Sutherland. This is the first time that the entertainer acknowledges a woman he is dating publicly and openly expresses his love.

Popcaan and Toni Ann Singh

“Imma make you my wife one of these days I know what you want my baby, no worry,” the Unruly entertainer sings.

“Gal you’re pretty like Toni-Ann Singh…Fi mi angel without the two wings yeah…Whine yuh waist me darling…let me feel like all of me falling, yeah…Bend over pon’ the rhythm…Bad man ah turn you like a steering wheel…Me love you like me savings, yeah,” Popcaan said in the song.

While some female fans found renewed validation for keeping their standards high for a man to treat them like how Popcaan is to Singh, some fans have expressed sadness at having their hopes of being with the singer dashed to pieces.

“Toni ann make every woman left mi to Bomboc***t!!! I’m so lonely,” Popcaan wrote on Twitter on Tuesday in response to women flooding his DMs.

He also shared several screenshots of his DMs on his Instagram account.

“5: 44 in the morning and mi cyah sleep that toni Ann song hurt mi… hope she treat u right because I not taking u back I fed up time I focus pon mi self…I can’t do this anymore Andre all pon tiktok ya star every time I refresh my fyp,” one screenshot read.
