On Sunday 31st July, Beta Kennel hosted an event at Advanced K-9 Training Services Dog Park in Beausejour Gros Islet that featured local dog breeders and dog lovers in St Lucia.

Beta Kennel is owned by Ms. Amber Trezelle, a relative newcomer to the local scene with a passion for dogs and an advocate for proper breeding practices.

The family friendly event featured a wide range of local dog breeders and owners who were happy to include their pets for an afternoon of conversation, relaxation and valuable information.

On hand were the officials from Advanced K-9 training who were pleased to lend their support by providing the venue, as well as to showcase their training and obedience courses.

Given the popularity of pedigree and large dog breeds on the island, these trainers were instructive on what owners need to know about handling their pets.

Over the past few years local dog owners have invested significantly in animals as pets and in the areas of security. The trainers were on hand to discuss all aspects of handling and courses that they offer for training.

A short demonstration on obedience, presented an impressive result of a well trained animal working its way through the obstacle course as well as showcasing defensive and protective skills.

Ms. Treselle was extremely happy with the outcome and the support of her family and friends, who were on hand for the day with a park filled with dogs of every kind.

” I am really pleased that so many people turned out to support this event,we have a real passion for dogs and want all of our owners to have as much information as possible to keep their dogs safe and happy.”

The park seemed to have almost every kind and size of dog, from poodle breeds carried in straw baskets, to enormous stately Rottweilers that frowned at the large audience. Some breeders made short speeches and explained their business and promised responsible dedication to the industry.

Suppliers of products from dog food to animal toys were also on hand.

With the enthusiasm for new and exotic dog breeds becoming a growing interest in St Lucia this kind of event can only bode well for increased knowledge by owners and facilitate a healthy community of dog breeders in St Lucia.

Lifted on the Beach a hit despite changes Loop Barbados

The organizers of Elevate Events Live Lifted Beach took a risk and it paid off.

Last Thursday evening, one of Crop Over’s most anticipated events took place with a bit of a twist.

Many considered the changes risky, but Elevate Events displayed why they are one of the top players in their field, while proving that risk does bring reward.

Traditionally held at the Bushy Park Race Circuit, the Crop Over Thursday blockbuster was held at The Boatyard Club, which was transformed into a tropical paradise, with an elegant d?cor, depicting the perfect beach party setting.

One would have thought that the removal of the cooler concept would have disappointed the patrons or even reduced the number of attendees, however, that was quite the contrary. The spacious venue allowed for more food and beverage areas and the service was generally quick and efficient at each station or bar. Couple that with free tequila shots and the organizers receive an A+ for creativity and productivity.

The stylish cabanas lent a special touch to the ambience of the event, but the outstanding feature of the night was the DJ cast and their ability to keep the crowd active for the entire production.

Daddy Bubbles and DJ Evolution kicked off their set with some inspiring, conscious reggae, but then took the largely mature crowd down memory lane with some popular 90’s and 2000’s dancehall, followed with some of the latest hits from Crop Over 2022.

If energy overload was ever a human pair, it would be Jus Jay and Patrick the Hypeman.

The dynamic duo connected with the crowd from the inception, displaying their versatility in song selection, while maintaining the tempo for their entire set.

Salt & Don were typically smooth and interactive, transitioning well between genres and lending appropriate commentary to the audience.

Lil Rick lifted the event into orbit with another dynamic, enthralling, and enthusiastic performance.

The “Hypa Dog” lived up to his name and took the event to its final destination in grand style, performing hits such as “Blessing”, “Can’t style me”, “Pelau” and many others, where the appreciative audience provided the requisite backup vocals.

Soca Rukshun made a debut this Crop Over season after a two-year festival hiatus. Although in this condensed version of the sweetest summer festival some of the traditional events were omitted, the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) ensured that creatives still had an avenue to showcase their craft with the introduction of a People’s Choice competition which was the lead-up to the show.

Those who successfully moved through the rounds were able to showcase their musical contribution on Sunday night at The Courtesy 98. 1 The One Soca Ruckshun which was held at the Kensington Oval.

Each of the 20 performers brought full energy to their presentations and the audience was vocal in their appreciation. Ultimately, the warmest reception was reserved for the final performer, Brucelee Almightee with his season favourite Mauby. Spectators went wild when he emerged on stage and was the icing on the cake to end that segment.

Hosted on the eve of Emancipation Day, it was a special moment when the Haynesville Youth Group and members of the Israel Lovel Foundation showed their combined skills on percussion in an impressive drum tribute called Iron Mass in recognition of the momentous occasion.

The show was taken to another level when the legendary band Krosfyah commenced their 45-minute set. Clearly glad to be back on stage they delivered a top-class performance. Their set included favourites like Sak Pase, and they even teased with a piece of Alison Hinds’ Bazodee. She too was among the list of top performers making guest appearances in this packed segment.

As the event culminated, the atmosphere was festive and Mikey and Nikita concluded with a dynamic performance of their collaboration Ready. They were joined by drummers and dancers bearing flags with the colourful “I Love Crop Over” logo. They moved from the stage onto the lawn area of the grounds creating a magnificent spectacle reminiscent crossing the stage at the National Stadium on Kadooment Day.

Attendees were treated to a number of giveaways throughout the night but Al Junior Payne was the biggest winner when he drove away the spanking new Hyundai Kona EV, compliments of Courtesy Garage.

The Reunion: A perfect mix of old and new Loop Barbados

Black Immigrant Daily News

Last Tuesday evening, July 26, Michael ‘Mikey’ Mercer and friends reinvigorated the local party scene.

Fittingly branded The Reunion, the perfectly- executed event proved to be both a reunion by name and nature. It was a fete reminiscent of days before the social media craze and it kept true to its theme of providing a grassroots atmosphere where people came to party and not pose.

And the sea of patrons who filled the Soca Arena at Kensington Mall car park on the night certainly understood the assignment. They followed the directive issued in the ads and came packed with energy while comfortably attired in their shorts, sneakers and armed with rags in hand.

From the time the live acts hit the stage just after 11 pm, there was non-stop action and non-stop pace, both on and off stage. The cast took many down memory lane and included superb acts like Barry Chandler, Lorenzo and waistline-boss Timmy who did not disappoint with his signature well-lubricated waistline.

Even McFingall was in attendance and teamed up with Red Plastic Bag’ during his set to perform the legendary tune Ragga Ragga, much to the audience’s delight.

Mikey, who doubled as MC on the night, was effective in running a tight, seamless show. He kept the vibes flowing and emerged star of his own show, intertwining his performances throughout the almost 5 hour-long show and interacting with each featured artiste.

The crowd returned the high, infectious energy that emanated from the stage and patrons got great value for money with a packed cast that included Khiomal, Biggie Irie, Nikita, Faith, Mole, Bruce Lee Almightee, Blood, Lil Rick, ‘The General’ Edwin Yearwood, Soca Queen Alison Hinds and many more. Several of the artistes took the time out to congratulate the show’s host on his development and success throughout the night.

Mikey’s sets were energetic and diverse as he delivered his own hits from his extensive catalogue, complete with an appearance of his signature Grassskirt Posse. Patrons were even treated to a brief DJ session led by Ramon G where several Bajan classics like Fishcakes and Bakes and Baby Too Sweet by Pitchup stirred the crowd into a further frenzy.

The show drew to a close just after 3 am and ended on a high with a spectacle of stiltwalkers and mother sallies. However, even at that time, it was clear that the crowd was not ready for the great vibes to end.

Speaking to Loop Entertainment after the event, Mercer, who admitted he shed a few tears throughout the night, expressed his gratitude to all his fans and supporters.

“It was an amazing feeling seeing the support. The turnout, even with the team that helped out on it, it really was nothing short of amazing. For me, it got emotional a few times during the night as well,” he said.

He expressed massive gratitude to title sponsors Chefette and Frosteez, 98.1 The One and made a special mention of Barbados Prestige Tours, also stating: “I need to thank the team, the committee, the execution team.”

While admitting there were “a few hiccups” on the night, The reigning Soca Monarch stated: “For a first-time event it came off extremely well. It was a learning curve. This was the first time we ever did anything. I never even planned a karaoke, furthermore a show of this magnitude. I think it did well and a lot of people are telling me it was something that they didn’t even know that they needed but they needed it and the vibe was correct on the night.”

When asked how he felt after such an impactful show, Mercer simply said: “I feel humbled and blessed.”

And for those fans who have already been asking what Crop Over 2023 holds, Mikey hinted that they can breathe easier, promising: “You can definitely look out for a part two of The Reunion!”

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Le Nouvelliste
