Energy Minister Stuart Young.

ENERGY Minister Stuart Young has expressed optimism over two new wells being drilled onshore in the Ortoire Licence area by an independent Canadian company, Touchstone Exploration.

These are the Coho and Cascadura wells.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Young said, “Looking forward to good news from @TouchstoneExp in the not too distant future on its onshore first gas production (Coho) and pushing for more to come by year end. Met with (Touchstone president) Paul Baay and @MoonXav (exploration manager Xavier Moonan) this morning as we continue to work to increase production in TT.”

A ministry statement said in Young’s continuing engagements with key energy stakeholders, he had Baay at the ministry.

“The discussions focused on Touchstone’s work programme and specifically the Coho and Cascadura wells. The parties also discussed potential future exploration and production.”

He said Coho and Cascadura wells are conventional gas developments onshore in Trinidad and Tobago and both in block Ortoire.

“Paul Baay estimates that both blocks will flow both liquids and gas for many years to come and provided details as to planned future drillings.”

Young was pleased with the updates and expressed the continued willingness of the Government to work with Touchstone.

The Touchstone Facebook page displayed an article on the website proactiveinvestor.co.uk, dated last Monday. This reported Baay’s pleasure that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) at its Cascadura well has been completed. He was quoted as saying the impact of this news will be “huge” going forward and he was very optimistic that now good relations have been established with the Environmental Management Authority, the way has been paved for “the next ten years.”

The same website cited him as reporting “good headway” on the Coho asset.

It said, “Coho will be the first new onshore natural gas project to come onstream in in TT for 20 years. In that context, a short delay shouldn’t mean very much. Nevertheless, Baay explains that the biggest challenge has been that three different parties are tied into the project and redesign changes pushed the project back by a month.”

The article said while Baay admitted to being downbeat about timelines, he reiterated: “We are making progress.”

British Airways will commence operations from the United Kingdon to Guyana in 2023 but tickets are expected to go on sale from this week. British Airways joins several other airlines that provide air travel out of Guyana.

The announcement was made on Tuesday at a press conference at the Public Works Ministry.

“Today’s announcement and the start of selling of tickets are to ensure the adequate lead time and a proper rollout of this service,” Public Works Minister, Bishop Juan Edghill noted.

He stated that the airline will operate twice weekly service to Guyana. The aircraft, a Boeing 777 has a 332-seating capacity.

Ministers, Bishop Edghill, Deodat Indar and Oneidge Walrond along with UK’s High Commissioner to Guyana Jane Miller at the press conference on Wednesday

This now doubles the amount that is carried by any other aircraft at the CJIA. The cost of fights is also expected to be cheaper due to the size of the aircraft.

However, there will not be direct flights from Guyana to London since the aircraft will be in transited in St. Lucia which will also open new opportunities for that country.

“These flights will be coming through St Lucia and that means that were opening up really a new market apart from British airways bringing in European visitors or tourists, the fact that the flight will be coming in and out through St Lucia, it gives St Lucia a direct link with Guyana and that could also bring in a lot of people from the eastern Caribbean into Guyana directly,” Edghill noted.

Meanwhile, British High Commissioner to Guyana Jane Miller stated that this developmment will open new opportunities that will strengthen Guyana and UK relations.

“It reflects a growing confidence globally in Guyana both in its tourism as an economic hub for the Latin American and the Caribbean, so it thinks with that new confidence people like British Airways are coming in seeing huge opportunities,” she explained.

In addition, she added that this will give an opportunity to the people of the UK to experience Guyana’s rich biodiversity and tourist attractions.

UFC 280 In Abu Dhabi: Caribbean American Aljamain Sterling Vs. T.J. Dillashaw Added To The Card

Black Immigrant Daily News

News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Weds. Aug. 10, 2022: Current Caribbean American bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling will make his second title defense against former champ T.J. Dillashaw on October 22nd. The fight was initially scheduled at UFC 279 (September 10th), but a rearranged schedule has pushed the bout to an already talent-filled Abu Dhabi card.

Sterling (17-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC) has been the epitome of the term ‘champion spirit,’ after a lackluster 2-3 UFC record between 2016/17, the New York native took a U-turn in the octagon and ascended to the top of the 135l division. Controversially, Sterling obtained the UFC bantamweight title when Petr Yan was disqualified for landing an illegal strike. A UFC title changed hands for the first time in the company’s history because of a DQ.

“Everything I worked for to this point, and to have the fight go like that,” Sterling commented post-fight. “I thought the fight was very close; I thought I was down two rounds. That’s not the way I wanted to win. That’s not the way I envisioned this. I just took the belt off.”

Recurring neck problems stopped Sterling from giving Yan his immediate rematch. Yan defeated Cory Sandhagen at UFC 267 for an interim title, thus, creating a guaranteed meeting and rematch with Sterling.

Despite overwhelming hate and criticism for obtaining the championship via DQ, Sterling silenced his doubters at UFC 273 on April 9, as “The Funk Master” earned a split-decision win over Yan to become the undisputed bantamweight champion.

Sterling is now riding a 7-fight win streak that has remained unblemished since 2018. Prior to his first title opportunity versus Yan, Sterling claimed a first-round submission stoppage over Sandhagen. Other victims of “The Funk Master” include Pedro Munhoz, Cody Stamann, Jimmie Rivera, and Brett Johns.

The Empire State will fully support their local talent, as the Uniondale-born-and-raised fighter resident already owns the favorable betting position at sportsbooks across the sports betting capital of America. BetRivers sportsbook, New York, is supplying -155 odds on Sterling, with a comeback on Dillashaw at +130.

Public bettors have, however, shifted the opening line on Sterling, which was -220. Is this an indication of what’s to come? Or have the sharp bettors hammered a plus-money line on Dillashaw that’s too tempting to pass up?

Dillashaw (21-3 MMA, 13-3 UFC) is the former two-time bantamweight champion. Successes over Renan Baráo in 2014 and Cody Garbrandt in 2018 were Dillashaw’s championship-winning moments, but a failed drug test would temporarily remove him from the sport.

A split-decision win over Sandhagen in July 2021 was Dillashaw’s returning fight after his two-year USADA suspension. With a promised title opportunity presented with his win over Sandhagen, Dillashaw has remained on the sidelines for another year and has finally received his chance to become the first-ever three-time UFC bantamweight champion.

Sterling took to his social media with the following comment: “Someone will be humbled! I will make the Iron Sheikie baby proud with a camel clutch! I break your back, then suplex you! There is no escape now, jabroni!”

UFC 280 takes place at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi; as always, the main card festivities will commence on PPV after the preliminary cards have aired on ESPN, ESPN+, and UFC Fight Pass.

Eleven fights have been made official for the UFC 280 main card and prelims; the excitement surrounding this card has been electric due to the household names that are scheduled to compete.

In the evening’s main event, Charles Oliveira will compete against Islam Makhachev for the vacant lightweight championship. Sterling and Dillashaw will take center stage for the co-main event, and top-ranked welterweight contenders Sean Brady and Belal Muhammad will lead the show before the marquee championship bouts take place.

In addition, famous up-and-coming star Sean O’Malley will face Petr Yan, a bantamweight war that will likely present the next championship contender for either Sterling or Dillashaw.

Top performers’ teachers overjoyed but not surprised Loop Barbados

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Barbados News

The teachers who stand proudly behind this year’s Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination’s top performing girl and boy were “surprised but not surprised” with their results.

Loop delivered the news unknowingly to the principal and teacher of Renelle Best over at St Gabriel’s Primary School. But it was a joy to watch as J4 teacher Susanna Gall held her chest and congratulated her student saying that she deserves it.

Moving her hand between her chest and her mask as she seemingly fought to catch her breath with not only the fact that Renelle got a raw score of 100 in both Mathematics and English, it was a fresh set of breathlessness when she processed that Renelle is the overall top student on the island for this year’s sitting.

Gall said:

“The words are…not coming. I am indeed speechless in a positive way.

“I am extremely happy for her cause she has consistently worked at that excellent peak… So I’m excited but still not surprised!”

Meanwhile, over in St George at St George Primary, a quiet and more composed Kathy-Ann Spencer said, “I’m so proud of him…I did not expect this, but I’m not surprised because he has been working consistently well throughout the two years that I taught him and I know that he was working well even before he came to me in Class 3. Sometimes we tend to forget the teachers who taught these children when they are younger but that preparation and that standard of excellence began from way down in Infants.”
