As the chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh Award in Dominica and Country Representative of the Queens Jubilee Trust, it is with great sadness that we and our friends throughout the world acknowledge the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

I have had the honour and privilege of meeting Her Majesty on more than one occasion; the last time being at Buckingham Palace, and she was always very interested in the progress of the Award in Dominica and the impact it was having on the lives of our young people.

The Queen was a remarkable lady who dedicated her life to public service. We are grateful
that she used her influence to help shape and enrich the lives of so many generations within the countries of the Commonwealth and beyond.

It was the wish of the Queen for the funds from the Jubilee Trust to be used to prevent blindness in the Commonwealth.

The International support of The Royal Family has enabled the Duke of Edinburgh international Award to empower millions of young people with the skills, confidence and self-belief to reach their full potential.

We are grateful for their support and thank especially the Earl of Wessex for his continued leadership of the Award in Dominica and Worldwide.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the New King Charles III and Queen Consort and the entire
Royal Family.

ALL schools in Tobago will remain closed on Friday. The THA Division of Education made the announcement on Thursday evening. It said the decision was made in consultation with the TT Met Service and the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA).

Schools in Tobago were dismissed early on Wednesday owing to the heavy rain which resulted in flooding and landslides throughout the island. The division kept schools closed on Thursday in anticipation of more bad weather.

The division said clean-up operations will take place on Friday, to ensure classes are ready for teaching on Monday. Principals, vice principals, senior teachers, office staff and safety officers are expected at school on Friday to co-ordinate the clean-up efforts.

The division urged the public to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to ensure safety. Families affected by the adverse weather are advised to contact the 211 call centre or TEMA at 660-7489.

Students in Trinidad are expected back in class on Friday as the Ministry of Education on Thursday announced the reopening of all schools, except those where clean-up operations are required.

Break-In At Ubuntu Rastafari Cultural Center – St. Lucia Times News

It is with deep concern that The UBUNTU Rastafari Cultural Center is sharing the news that on Friday September 23, 2022, the offices of Ras Dr. Wayne Rose were broken into by unknown assailants.

Important documents, cash, and office equipment, including the Center’s central computer were all stolen.

Although the criminals stole significant amounts of cash, equipment, and a sense of security from the Center, it is very curious that they ignored other office equipment  worth tens of thousands of dollars.

It seems like whoever is responsible for the break-in wanted to take our computers; as if they were searching for passcodes and documents stored on the system.

Members of our staff are currently traumatized, disappointed, and discouraged, especially knowing that our commitment is to help improve and enrich the lives of the St. Lucian Family.

With the violation of our space, privacy, and the removal of important ‘work in progress’ documents, we are not sure whether we can continue our work from the location on Jeremie Street. However, our resolve and commitment to share in and improve the educational mission and thrust of St. Lucia remains strong and unchanged.

Yes, our momentum is obstructed by the incident, and our confidence shaken.

Still, we are confident in the victory of good over evil, and are assured that the positive energies of our St. Lucian Family will translate to bigger and better opportunities for establishing a safe, appropriate, and sustainable space for The UBUNTU Cultural Center.

InI are looking forward to dusting off the ashes of the incident and to rise as the phoenix, accelerating to higher heights of Justice and Healing.

For the perpetrators of this cowardly act, their judgement is guaranteed!

May peace be within your walls and prosperity within your palaces! One God, One Aim, One Destiny!!!

Mexico Mayor Assassinated In Town Hall Massacre – St. Lucia Times News

Black Immigrant Daily News

Gunmen have shot dead the mayor of a small town in western Mexico, and at least 17 others, officials say.

Police say gunmen stormed the San Miguel Totolapan town hall at 14:00 (19:00 GMT) on Wednesday. Photos online show it riddled with bullet holes.

Mayor Conrado Mendoza Almeda’s left-wing PRD party condemned his “cowardly” assassination and demanded justice.

The attack has been blamed on the Los Tequileros criminal gang, which is linked to a powerful drug cartel.

Mr Mendoza Almeda’s father, former mayor Juan Mendoza Acosta, was also killed – in his home – before the attack moved to the town hall.

A highway in the state of Guerrero, where San Miguel Totolapan lies, was reportedly briefly blocked by large vehicles to prevent security forces from getting into the city.

Argentine: Messi annonce que le Mondial au…

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Guadeloupe FranceAntilles

Pay yourself first for a brighter and richer future Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Jamaica News Loop News

The concept of paying yourself first is not a new phenomenon. We all know that self-care is critical, and one of the best forms of self-care is taking care of your finances.

Most people are in the habit of paying for needs, spending on wants, and then saving or investing money last. When you do this, not much emphasis is on saving and investing. The result is that our future wealthy self suffers because we are not taking care of our future finances.

We all have goals and dreams that we want to accomplish, but many of us are unable to do so because we do not know how to prioritize our money.

My mission is for everyone to be wealthy. To achieve this, you must understand how money works and how to manage and multiply your money.

What does it mean to “pay yourself first”?

Essentially, you have to prioritise putting aside money into a savings or investing account as soon as you get paid before spending that money on anything else.

This account should be separate from the account you use to pay your bills and other living expenses. Paying yourself first makes saving or investing for your future self before you spend money a top priority.

There are several ways that you can pay yourself first. The main concept is that you pay yourself like you pay a bill – treat your savings and investments as if they were each a bill.

In the same way that you can’t miss a light bill or your electricity will be disconnected, you can’t miss paying yourself, or you will be struggling with money forever.

One of the easiest ways to pay yourself first is through your employer.

You can do this by setting up a standing order of a certain percentage from your salary to more than one account; or by contributing a percentage of your salary to a retirement plan.

Paying yourself first can be successful by following these suggested tips:

Automate your savings: This reduces the temptation to spend the money you have set aside for saving and can be used for emergencies and short-term needs mainly.Automate your investing: Saving money is no longer enough to build wealth. Therefore, assigning money for investing is vital. For long-term goals such as retirement, investing is a better option for building wealth over time. Investing is how you build lasting wealth.Assign names to your account: This practice will help minimise temptation or dipping into the accounts. Having a “vacation” account or “splurge” account will help you to know how much money you have available to enjoy the luxuries of life and can also motivate you to keep putting aside money in these accounts.Use refunds or bonuses to help enhance your savings and investment accounts. Any and every excess cash you receive should be put to work. Idle money is the worst type of money to have.

I want you to know that money is possible. Follow these steps to pay yourself first, and you will be well on your way to a brighter and richer financial future.
