St Lucia Met Office

Over in St Lucia, the Saint Lucia Meteorological Services is tracking an approaching trough system which is expected to affect the island from November 21.

According to an advisory issued late Sunday, November 20, the Lucian Met Office is forecasting that unstable weather conditions associated with the passage of the trough system could last up to 48 hours.

Residents and motorists are urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant when traversing the East and West Coast Roads as there are still high levels of soil saturation due to heavy rains in recent weeks.

The passage of the approaching trough system will increase the risk of flash flooding, landslides and rock fall.

Small craft operators, when venturing out to sea, are also called upon to be on alert as winds and waves may be high.

Residents in low-lying areas are advised to take all necessary precautions to secure their property and personal effects.

Dominica Met Office

A trough system is the dominant feature across the area. An increase in moisture and instability could result in cloudy and breezy conditions with some scattered showers which could be moderate at times and a chance of isolated thunderstorms. Thereafter, on Tuesday further deterioration in conditions are expected with moderate to heavy showers possible. People in areas prone to flooding and landslides should keep monitoring this system.

Moderate to rough seas are anticipated during the next 24 to 48 hours, with wave heights up to 10ft along the eastern coast. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect. Small craft operators and sea-bathers should exercise caution.

72-hour Outlook St Vincent and the Grenadines Met Office

Instability ahead of an approaching trough began to affect our islands today with occasional moderate showers and gusty winds. As Sunday night progresses, similar conditions are anticipated. Residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and landslides and near rivers and streams should remain alert. In addition, a favourable upper level pattern is expected to remain in place across our islands and provide support for this system which is expected to influence the weather conditions during the next few days. The SVG Meteorological Services will continue to monitor this system and provide the necessary updates.

Moderate to fresh(20-35km/h) easterly to east north easterly trades will cross the islands within the next 24hours, increasing(near 40km/h) and temporarily shifting to east south easterly during Tuesday afternoon. Wind direction should return to easterly by midweek. Seas are currently moderate in open water with swells peaking near 1.5m on western coasts and up to 2.5m on eastern coasts. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution for above normal sea swells and occasional gusty winds. Conditions may deteriorate within the next few days due to increased wind speed. Saharan dust concentrations should begin to cross the islands from Monday, increasing in intensity by midweek.

Former candidate, Emily DeCou, announces start of own consultancy firm Loop Cayman Islands

Black Immigrant Daily News

Emily DeCou, a political candidate for George Town East in the recent general elections, announced on Radio Cayman’s Talk Today recently that she has now opened her very own consultancy firm.

Speaking about her new venture with talk show host, Dwayne Sterling Ebanks, Ms DeCou said:

There’s so much information and sometimes you just don’t know where to start. I have officially opened and started my own consultancy firm where I can help folks answer those questions for themselves, because, like I said, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution for everybody.

“Essentially, I help folks understand what they’re spending their money on, how they can invest more in themselves, especially [in] their community and nourish their homes, but also themselves,” she explained.

To help people realise these outcomes, Ms DeCou said that she teaches people how “to become better consumers, better citizens, participate in their own democracy, demand more from their policy makers who have the power to write policy that shapes how they act as a citizen and consumer.”

Ms DeCou articulated that, in seeking these outcomes, the idea is not so much about people “gravitating towards the sort of quick gratification stuff” but, instead, it is about people being encouraged to think longer term and make “small adjustments in their lives in ways that, over time, translate to massive changes… positive changes both on their wallets [and] on the planet.”

Regarding her approach, she said that, ultimately, it is “learning about how to use the resources around you more efficiently and that sort of feeds into my business which is total resource use and efficiency guidance.”

She noted further that it is important that “we holistically feed ourselves and our community because community equals immunity,” which is something she said she wants more people to think along the lines of.

To learn more about her services, Ms DeCou said that she can be reached via WhatsApp at 345-324-1193 or by scheduling an appointment via the following website: https://calendly.com/true-m.

UWP Calls Out PM’s Press Secretary Over SLP Borrowing – St. Lucia Times News

Black Immigrant Daily News

At tomorrow’s sitting of Parliament, the Government of Saint Lucia will seek to borrow approximately $25 Million EC.

This persistent borrowing, which the Philip J Pierre led government promised Saint Lucians would not happen, has been unprecedented over the last 16 months.

In an attempt to respond to a Facebook post from the Leader of the Opposition Hon. Allen Chastanet, who sought to bring transparency to the government’s historic borrowing practices, Press Secretary Maundy Lewis responded by stating that Hon. Chastanet was a “liar” and went further to claim that tomorrow’s borrowing of $25 Million EC is the first time that the SLP Government will be borrowing since they assumed office in July of 2021.

This false and misleading statement by the Press Secretary is a blatant insult to the intelligence of all Saint Lucians and to find the “liar” Ms. Lewis only needs to look in the mirror.

The facts are clear. On July 10th 2022, the SLP Administration went to parliament to borrow a total of $49.5 Million US or $134.4 Million EC from 4 different loans.

In October, the Government once again borrowed US$102.12 Million or EC $277.44 Million for budgetary support.

It is unacceptable that a public figure such as the Press Secretary would deliberately mislead the public about such an important and sensitive matter.

One is left to wonder and ask the question: what other important national issues has the Press Secretary been misleading the public about? The Opposition calls on Ms. Lewis to issue an apology to the public for her misleading statements.

‘Twas the first official band launch for the 2023 Carnival season, and patrons and stakeholders alike were rearing to get on bad.

Since Xodus Carnival and Bacchanal Jamaica dropped the plot twist for Carnival Road in March 2023, the costume reveal has been the talk of the town.

The general interest was evident from Saturday’s massive turnout at Mona Hockey Field in Kingston for the Xodus Carnival Sweet Treats x Bacchanal Jamaica Candy Land band launch.

“Unity is strength, and together we aim to make Jamaica the number one destination for Carnival in the world,” read a statement from Xodus Carnival Director Scott Dunn on the coalescence of two of Jamaica’s premier bands earlier this month.

Dunn’s fervour has not waned since. During an interview with Loop News post-launch, he stated that he was just as ecstatic as he was when the announcement was made.

Amazing costumes, great f?tes, new ways to improve the distribution of costumes, a more efficient website – that should allow for ease of access when purchasing costumes – and new ideas for logistics are improvements to be expected for Road March 2023, according to Dunn.

Among the Sweet Treats and Candy Land designers on the ground at Saturday’s f?te was Jessica Campbell, who’s no stranger to Carnival in Jamaica, yet “excited to be back on the road”.

“The energy is very high ‘cuz we’ve been anticipating it for a really long time and creatively we put a lot of work into it…I know that Xodus is gonna do a really good job, as well as Bacchanal, and together we’re working on making it even better than before… ” she said excitedly in an interview with Loop News following the reveal of her self-designed Honeydew and Icy costumes.

The 18-costume display for the 2023 Sweet Treats and Candy Land costumes are available for purchase at Xodus Carnival.

Disgruntled teachers at Ocho Rios Primary School in St Ann walked off the job on Monday, protesting the alleged assault of a vice-principal by a parent on the school compound.

According to reports, a teacher confiscated a student’s cell phone after it was used in class. The device was subsequently handed over to the vice-principal.

It is alleged that another student contacted the mother of the child whose phone was taken.

On arriving at the school, the mother reportedly attempted to retrieve the cell phone from the vice-principal, who resisted her attempts.

A tussle reportedly ensued between the parent and the senior educator.

Teachers at the institution later protested at the gates of the school compound, arming themselves with placards bearing the words ‘Teacher violence’ and ‘Stop abusing teachers’, among other expressions.

Said one of the protesting educators: “We are all frustrated and we are standing in solidarity with our teacher.

“In fact, it is a vice-principal and this has happened. This cannot continue, and it cannot continue,” the female teacher told reporters.
