This included a presentation by the Programme Manager Health Sector Development CARICOM, Dr. Karen Gordon-Boyle, updating the meeting on the joint policy decision by the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) and the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) to recognise trans fats as harmful to health and to support the efforts of the Inter-Governmental Working Group (IGWG) on Unhealthy Diets and Obesogenic Food to eliminate industrially produced trans fatty acids (IP-TFA) from the regional food supply.

3- Antoine Lefort (Jardin botanique )
4- Marcelin Wilbon (Ti cochon là)
5- Jean Forbin (Guadeloupe Port Caraïbes)
6- Mathieu Moures (Aigle des mers )
Une belle arrivée à Gourbeyre

Updates on Andre
16 th July 2022
Thank you all for your support.
– Andre arrived to Texas with a pressure ulcer/wound (on posterior region) and this is interfering with the treatment programme.
– Andre is now using a specialized bed (air fluidized therapy) to help the wound heal fast and minimize the need for turning
– He is increasingly breathing better through his nose. This is good. It is one step closer to removing his trach
– His vitals are great
– his physical appearance is returning to normal and the little bruises around his body are healing
– He was initially on an anti- seizure medication and they plan to wean him off of this since he is not demonstrating any seizures and that drug can make him feel cloudy/drowsy
– He is taking his food really well so he will hopefully but back on his weight soon.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Ian Gooding-Edghill
According to Ian Gooding-Edghill, Minister of Health and Wellness in Barbados, Barbados has recorded its first confirmed case of Monkeypox.
Regarding the source of the Monkeypox case, the Minister said:
This case is a Barbadian [man] in his thirties, who attended the Winston Scott Polyclinic with symptoms of a progressive rash, body pains and fever. He sought medical attention at the Polyclinic within hours of his arrival in Barbados. The patient was seen and assessed based on a history of recent travel and clinical manifestations. The patient was swabbed and the samples were sent to the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory for testing where results revealed a positive case of Monkeypox. These results of the locally done test were obtained within 24 hours as against the days awaiting results when the tests were done in Trinidad by CARPHA.
The Minister had alerted the country yesterday that a suspected case was under investigation.
Today, he assured citizens and visitors on island, saying that “the patient remains in isolation and is under the direct care and medical supervision of our Medical Officer of Health.”
“In the interest of patient confidentiality, no personal details will be disclosed,” the Minister continued.
As it pertains to the possibility of transmission surrounding this initial case, the Minister added:
I am confident that the Ministry’s speedy announcement of this case will, as has occurred with our response to COVID-19, get from the Barbadian public the same level of cooperation in our ongoing management of the Monkeypox health issue.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness has commenced contact tracing as a responsible public health measure. Let me assure the public that the Ministry is fully prepared to handle any cases of Monkeypox in our nation.

EUGENE, Oregon: Nothing feels better than when you achieve a personal best and that is why Jamaica’s triple jumper Ackelia Smith flashed a broad smile as she walked through the Mixed Zone on day two of the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday.
The 20-year-old student at the University of Texas in the United States, who is seen as a possible successor to the likes of Shanieka Ricketts and Kimberly Williams, reeled off a big personal best of 14.36m to book her spot in the final on Monday.
The 14.36m effort came on her final jump and it was enough to surpass the qualifying mark for the final.
“I am super happy,” said Smith. “I went out there for a personal best and I did just that and there is nothing more else I can ask for.”
Smith’s 14.36m represents the sixth best of the 12 qualifiers.
Smith, who finished second behind Ricketts at the Jamaica trials in June, is not thinking about a medal in Oregon, where Yulimar Rojas is expected to rule.
Rojas, a five-time world gold medallist, Olympic champion, and world record-holder, led all qualifiers with 14.62m.
At the World Athletics Championships Oregon22, the Venezuelan triple jump superstar has the chance to become her event’s first three-time women’s world outdoor champion,
“My goal is to get a new personal best in the final because I am competing against a lot of ladies with a lot of experience,” said Smith.
She is looking to add aggression to her jumps when she competes in the final.
“My techniques are ok enough to get me a big jump,” Smith told Loop Sports. “But one of the things that I did lack the most today was aggression and I think that I did get that on my last jump.”
Ricketts, who produced a 14.45m effort to secure an automatic qualifying spot into the final, was very happy for Smith.
“I am just having goosebumps right now. I just spoke to her before coming over here (the mixed zone). I told her to forget everything and just pretend as if she is in training,” said Ricketts.
The 30-year-old Ricketts will enter the final with the fifth-best qualifying jump.
The third Jamaican – Kimberly Williams – is also through to the final.
