Tommie Lee Apologize To Chris Brown For Comments About His Son & Ammika Harris

Black Immigrant Daily News

Reality star Tommie Lee is apologizing to Chris Brown and the mother of his son Ammika Harris after she got into a drunken rage after she attempted to play with the child over the weekend.

Lee faced backlash due to her rude comments and insults about the artist’s son, whom she called “slow” and an “albino,” after Harris prevented her from touching or playing with the child seen backstage at a recent Chris Brown concert.

The reality star’s main page on Instagram was deleted after Chris Brown fans reported her account for bullying. It seems that Zeus Network also distanced itself from her after Natalie Nunn and Baddies star Rollie called her out for the rude behavior.

While at a press conference promoting an upcoming fight on the Zeus network between herself and Nunn, Tommie Lee apologized to Brown and his family and explained the situation as just “friendly sport.”

“I want to start off by addressing the elephant in the room. I want to start off by saying I love the children,” she said. “Last night in defense mode…I want to apologize to Chris Brown and his baby mother because it’s not my character. It started off as the, you know, friendly sport of it. It got real, it happened. We all human and I’m just here to knock this ***** out at this point.”

On Tuesday night, Tommie Lee went off on Instagram Live after she was called out for blowing up on Harris, who reportedly stopped Tommie from touching and playing with her child. The reality star accused her of closing a door in her face, although many fans felt that Tommie was out of line for trying to touch someone’s child uninvited.

To make matters worse, she did not apologize or accept accountability and instead went on to bash Chris, Harris, and even the innocent child.

“I don’t care about your baby. F*ck your baby,” she continued. “And f*ck his daddy, too. The f*ck? Really. Like, girl. I ain’t pressed ’bout no motherf*ckin baby. F*ck him. All y’all look albino as f*ck,” she ranted.

Chris Brown has not reacted to the incident since.

Nipsey Hussle’s Convicted Killer Given 60-Year Prison Sentence

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

The man who shot and killed California rapper Nipsey Hussle in cold blood and left him to die in front of the store he opened to help the community has been sentenced to life in prison.

Eric R. Holder Jr. will have to serve 60 years in jail before he is eligible for parole. A judge handed down the hefty sentence more than three years since he shot and killed the rapper in a rage over allegations that he was an informant. According to the LA Times, Holder was sentenced to 25 years to life on the first-degree count, an additional 25 years to life for a sentencing enhancement since a gun was used, and 10 years for the shooting of the innocent bystanders.

Holder Jr. was found guilty by a jury last year of the first-degree murder of the hip-hop artist, but his sentencing was put off until this month. Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke II handed down the of-delayed sentence to Eric Holder Jr., who is only 33 years old.

Along with being found guilty of first-degree murder, Holder was also found guilty of two counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter and two counts of assault with a firearm after shooting two innocent bystanders when he shot and killed Nipsey Hussle.

Judge Jacke’s sentence was handed down after Nipsey’s close friend Herman ‘Cowboy’ Douglas gave a victim impact statement in court, and a letter from Holder’s father read in court. Despite the lengthy sentence, the judge noted that Holder was not eligible for the death penalty.

Holder’s attorney Aaron Jansen had asked for Holder’s sentencing to be delayed as he moved to get his conviction reduced from first-degree murder to manslaughter or second-degree murder, which was rejected by Judge Jacke.

During the sentencing on Wednesday, Douglas told the court he was standing with Hussle when Holder killed him. Douglas shared that the rapper’s death left a deep void in the South Los Angeles community where Hussle had dedicated himself and his success to building up the community and creating opportunities for the youth.

“Nipsey was my friend, he was like a son, he was like a dad,” he said. “Our community right now, we lost everything, everything we worked for. One man’s mistake, one man’s action, messed up a whole community.”

He continued, “Our community right now, we lost everything. Everything we worked for. … thousands of jobs we don’t have no more. Homies don’t have nothing to do. They backsliding, they robbing people now,” Douglas said. “All our stores are closed down. The whole community relied on Nip.”Douglas also directly addressed the judge, “I don’t care what you give this guy. It ain’t about the time. I just want to know why. The world wants to know why. Why someone would do that?”

Douglas also broke out into song- “hit the road Jack” after Holder was sentenced, causing the judge and deputies to admonish him and send him out of the room.

Hussle, whose real name is Ermias Asghedom, had grown up with Holder, and the two were also aspiring rappers, but only Nipsey Hussle became successful. Evidence led by the prosecution claimed that Holder shot the rapper about a dozen times, with one shot ripping through his spine. Had he survived, he would have been disabled.

Holder’s attorney had stated that his client did kill the rapper but said that a lesser verdict of voluntary manslaughter was appropriate since Holder reacted in the heat of passion and shot the rapper.

Jansen says his client planned to appeal the verdict.

Quavo hops on a reggae beat in his new song “Greatness” a tribute to Takeoff.

The Migos rapper is still mourning the loss of his nephew, Takeoff, and is releasing a new tribute on Wednesday to honor the late rapper. On Wednesday night, Quavo announced the track, which appears to be produced by DJ Khaled. “Countdown To Greatness #ForTake,” he tweeted with the rocket emoji.

The Chris Dvon-directed video starts with Quavo at an undisclosed location seemingly like his home, watching home videos of himself and Takeoff. The clip then transitioned into the Atlanta rapper showing off his expensive jewelry collection and exotic cars.

“My chain, my watch, my wrist/ My mother****in’ house, my rise and grind/ I’d give it all away just to see my dawg just one more time/ Look up at the lights one time,” he raps while blowing smoke.

Quavo dissing Offset on “Greatness”?

In one verse, Quavo seemingly takes aim at Offset amid recent tension with his former Migos group member at the Grammys. “I’mma make sure Mama straight/ Especially Mama and Take/ I can’t kick it with a fake (Nah)/ And I won’t sleep with the snakes (Snakes!),” he raps over a reggae flavored beat

This is Quavo’s second tribute to Takeoff, having released the song “Without You” last month. He also performed the song at the 65th annual Grammy Awards for the In Memoriam segment dedicated to the creatives who passed away this year. The rapper became emotional in the song, rapping, “Tears rolling down my eyes / I just seen an angel fly.”

Quavo was present when Takeoff was shot and killed on November 1 in Houston, Texas. At the time, he and Takeoff had just set out on their solo journey as ‘Unc & Phew’ following the reported breakup of the Migos.

“Greatness” was released at 10 PM on Wednesday night.

Fans of Quavo also reacted to the song, with many sympathizing with the rapper on the loss of his nephew.

“Already going to be fire and we all are here for you and long live the rocket man,” another said.

“Takeoff will always be remembered. Never forgotten. We are missing Take along with you. Wishing you moments of peace and comfort,” another said.

Some also called for the rapper to make peace with his cousin Offset as the fracture to their relationship appears to have widened.

“Please make up with @OffsetYRN. You 2 need to be holding it down for Take please,” one person said.

One man, Patrick Clarke, has been charged with the murder of Takeoff. He is currently on bond. No other arrests have been made, but the police are investigating.

Black Immigrant Daily News

American singer/songwriter Mya is tapping into dancehall culture again with a new collaboration with none other than Bounty Killer.

Mya previously collaborated with Ding Dong on “Hands Free” on the Sexting Riddim released in 2019, “Take Him Out” with Spice in 2013, and “Girls Dem Sugar” with Beenie Man. Now, she says she has an unreleased song with Bounty Killer.

“You can dance to it,” Mya says as she declines to give more details when pressed by local host Dutty Berry. “It’s a cultural dance that’s all I can tell you,” she laughed.

Mya said that she has been working and she completed two albums during the pandemic, and she is excited to be sharing her music with fans. The R&B legend was speaking at the recent post-Valentine’s Day concert “Lovers and Friends” event held on February 18 at Priory, St. Ann. The artist joined headliners Rotimi, R&B giant Bobby Valentino, and local acts Christopher Martin, Sizzla, Alaine, J Written, and British Geeza.

Mya

Mya also spoke about her love for dancing and also shared that her song with Bounty Killer will be a different vibe.

Mya also reacted to fellow artist and former “Lady Marmalade” collaborator Pink shading the other artists that were on the set for the song. In a recent interview, Pink said “Lady Marmalade” was 12th on her favorite songs because “it wasn’t very fun to make. I’m all about fun, and it was like a lot of fuss and there were a lot of personalities. Kim and Mya were nice.”

Mya, however, brushed off the question noting that she was not always aware of what took place backstage on sets with fellow artists as she was about her business and left as she was done.

In the meantime, Mya’s performance at the Lovers & Friends concert received rave reviews from happy fans who were treated to original choreography as well as a live performance from the artist.

The artist also shared her love for Jamaica, noting that she visits the island yearly and could “feel the love.”

“It’s a place where you can see love in creation. You can taste love,” she said.

Vybz Kartel and his Attorney Reacts To Privy Council Appeal Ruling

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Vybz Kartel and his attorney Isat Buchanan both called out false media reports about his ongoing appeal on Tuesday.

The artist had filed a November 2021 application to introduce fresh evidence in his ongoing appeal before the Privy Council, Jamaica’s highest court of appeal. The artist’s appeal in the UK, filed in November 2020, is still active before the appellate court, and a decision is yet to be made.

Amid misleading reports that his appeal was denied, the artist called out Jamaican media for hastily reporting false information.

“Like I’ve always said, its like the Star just takes up random people off the streets and turn them into reporters but tell the badmind Jamaica media #TheCometsComing,” Vybz Kartel’s label page.

Vybz Kartel’s attorney Isat Buchanan also shared that the ruling on Tuesday (February 21) meant that the artist was denied permission to pursue his appeal on two aspects but that his substantive appeal is yet to be heard at a future later date.

Fox 5’s Lisa Evers also shared that Buchanan said that reports about the appeal being denied were false.

“…The APPEAL IS STILL ON & that the false reports apparently stem from a misunderstanding of the complicated legal process,” Buchanan said.

via Instagram

Vybz Kartel is presently incarcerated, awaiting the outcome of his appeal. The artist was convicted in 2014 along with Andre St. John, Kahira Jones, and Shawn Campbell.

The legendary dancehall artist was sentenced to 35 years to life in prison for the murder. His lawyers argued that he did not receive a fair trial due to the issues that took place with not only the case being high profile and attracting undue publicity but also because a juror was charged for attempting to bribe the jury foreman and others whom he offered $500,000 to vote not to convict Kartel.

The artist’s attorneys also raised issues with the evidence from Kartel’s Blackberry phones used to convict him, claiming that the phones were tampered with.

Vybz Kartel’s appeal to Jamaica’s Court of Appeal shaved off Two and a half years from his 35-year sentence before he is eligible for parole due to an oversight by the trial judge.

Vybz Kartel Appeal: Privy Council Denied Application For New Evidence

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

United Kingdom’s Privy Council has rejected Vybz Kartel’s application to introduce fresh evidence into his appeal even as his substantive appeal remains before the court.

On Tuesday, reports first surfaced that the artist’s appeal was denied, but it was later clarified that it was, in fact, Kartel’s application to introduce ‘fresh evidence’ in the appeal that was denied.

The ruling on Tuesday revealed that Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, had made a subsequent application to the Privy Council on November 12, 2021, where he applied to the court to have fresh evidence in the form of phone evidence garnered by international cyber experts entered to support his substantive appeal.

The substantive appeal was filed on November 20, 2020, where Kartel argued several grounds of facts and law that the evidence against him had been tampered with and that he did not receive a fair trial.

A ruling on the substantive appeal is still pending, contrary to earlier reports that the appeal was denied in its entirety.

A notice of the ruling was released on Tuesday (February 21) said, “Having considered an application for permission to appeal from the judgment of the Court of Appeal of Jamaica on April 3 2020 in the matter between [the Appellants] and The King [Respondent] and having considered written submissions from the Appellants and the Respondent we have agreed to report to Your Majesty as our opinion that 1) permission to appeal be refused (in the application dated November 20 2020).”

Clerk of the Privy Council

The ruling added that the additional grounds of appeal advanced by Vybz Kartel also “be refused and also refused on the application for an extension of time and application to rely on fresh evidence.”

The ruling noted that the additional grounds application filed in 2021 “do not support the submission that a serious miscarriage of justice has occurred in this case.”

In the meantime, Jamaica’s Director of Public Prosecution, Paula Llewellyn, shared that Kartel was appealing on “fresh evidence” grounds after hiring cyber experts to examine the cell phones that his team claims were tampered with. The examination was done in the presence of the DPP, which holds state evidence until a trial is over.

The artist is accused of being the mastermind behind a murder plot to kill his associate, promoter Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

Vybz Kartel and his co-defendants were found guilty on March 13, 2014, and he was sentenced to 35 years to life in prison while the others faced similar sentences. An appeal court judge reduced his sentence to 32 years and 6 months in 2020 after hearing arguments about evidence tampering in the trial. However, the murder conviction still stands. Kartel’s co-defendants are Shawn ‘Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John.

Williams’ body has never been found, but the highly publicized case involved circumstantial evidence that police used to show that Kartel had the motive to kill Williams after two illegal weapons in his possession reportedly went missing. The police also tendered evidence from Kartel’s blackberry phones showing him speaking in codes ordering the death of Williams.

Skatta Burrell Addresses Ishawna Backlash Over ‘New Child’ Church Theme Video

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Skatta Burrell has stepped forward to address controversy sparked by Ishawna’s new music video.

The Christian community in Jamaica is once again up in arms at Ishawna, who is accused of “mocking God” and the church in her new music video. The dancehall star knows how to get people riled up, especially as controversy is a feature of dancehall music, and it appears that she has hit the hammer on the head once again. The new song “New Child” features a video showing women at what looks like a church service, mimicking how churches tend to look on a Sunday morning.

On Monday, her producer and manager, Skatta Burrell, hit back at the critics who called out the artist for seemingly “mocking God” because the video concept appeared to be about women in a church service with Ishawna as the pastor.

The music video featured Ishawna on stage in a red dress with a couple of dozen women in church pews acting like they were in a church service. One woman even got up and rolled around in church in the way that videos from actual churches look. Many on social media were up in arms about the video appearing to mock church services where people get the “holy ghost” and sometimes act out.

According to Skatta Burrell, the artist was merely celebrating women.

“Can’t please everyone,” Skatta said in a statement on Instagram. “A few Persons saying that this video [is] disrespecting God. Well Dressed Women coming together in unity celebrating and enjoying an uplifting song that empowers them is now mocking God? That’s not even a real Church.”

He continued, “Some People filled wit resentment in them heart they can’t stand to see others Happy and Being nice to each other. they prefer to see half naked females cat fighting and hating amongst themselves.”

This is not the first time that Ishawna has caught flack for her music. The artist previously received criticism for what some fans felt was disrespect for one of Jamaica’s most iconic women- the erudite Miss Lou after declaring that “[mi] nuh wear tablecloth like Miss Lou,” on Instagram.

Ishawna also faced major backlash after her Ed Sheeran sample of “Shape of You” called “Equal Rights” promoted oral sex for women as recipients. Ishawna drew the ire of many people, including the Christian and Rastafarian communities which condemned her lyrics in the song. Even some dancehall stalwarts like Bounty Killer aired their displeasure at the lyrics and accused the singer of corrupting the youth.

Ishawna, who signed a record deal with New York-based Payday Record last year, has not reacted to the criticisms.
