Drake Ordered By Judge To Stand Deposition In XXXTentacion’s Trial

Black Immigrant Daily News

A judge has granted a defense motion that forces Canadian rapper Drake to sit for a deposition in the ongoing trial of three defendants charged with first degree of rapper XXXTentacion in June 2018.

The Canadian rapper will have to comply with the order to sit for the deposition on February 24 after previously ignoring several requests by defense lawyer Mauricio Padilla representing Diedrick Williams.

The defendants Michael Boatwright (28), who is alleged to be the killer who shot X, Williams (26), the alleged driver of the car and alleged mastermind behind the murder, and Trayvon Newsome (24), the other alleged gunman are charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and armed robbery with a firearm in the murder of XXXTentacion whose real name is Jahseh Onfroy.

The defense attorney for Williams, during opening statements, asked that the court grant an order to show cause in order to subpoena Drake to sit for deposition as there were numerous reports and tips by fans asking that Drake be investigated in X’s murder as the two rappers had a tense beef in 2018.

Fans have also dug up an Instagram Story from XXXTentacion in which he says if he dies, Drake is responsible for it. The rapper died a month later, and his attorney focused his opening statement on the fact that the police had allegedly not done a thorough investigation and they had arrested the wrong person- Williams.

Drake is not the only rapper who has been referenced but the Migos, although no application to subpoena them was made.

In the meantime, Prosecutors have not mentioned Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, in any way in the trial.

Padilla previously told the court that a deposition date was set two times before, but despite Drake being properly served, he failed to show up or acknowledge the summons.

Drizzy will need to sit for the deposition on February 24 or face consequences.

“If deponent Aubrey Drake Graham does not appear to deposition he must appear before this court on Monday February 27, 2023 at 10 a.m. EST at so [sic] the court can determine why he should not be held in contempt.”

In his motion to show cause, Padilla not only mentioned the Instagram Story, which said, “If anyone tries to kill me it was @champagnepapi [Drake’s Instagram handle]. I’m snitching rn,” but also concerns that the late rapper’s mother made to police when she gave a statement to police after his death.

In his filing, Padilla claims that Drake has gang affiliations and even had a man call into a public podcast to claim that he was Drake’s shooter.

Drake’s lyrics incessantly diss XXXTentacion even after his death was also referenced in the filing by the attorney. In one song, “BS,” on his latest joint 21 Savage album, Her Loss, the attorney claim that the lyrics, “I never put no prices on the beef until we end this sh*t/I pay half a million for his soul, he my nemesis,” is about XXXTentacion.

The filing also speaks to XXXTentacion claiming that Drake had stolen his cadence and style on a track “KMT” released before he was killed.

As for the prosecution, it has so far led evidence from a co-defendant turned state witness Robert Allen who claims that it was Williams’ idea to go out to rob people and while going to buy a mask, he saw the rapper’s car at Riva Motorsports and even pulled up his Instagram to confirm that the BMW i8 in the parking lot was the one X drove.

The witness further claimed that he even argued against robbing the rapper, given the CCTV footage at Riva motorsports easily identified them, but it was Williams who persuaded the other two to rob the rapper and came up with the elaborate plan to block the rapper from coming out of the only exit at the business place so they could ambush him. The witness identified Boatwright as the one who fired several shots at XXXTentacion, as seen on surveillance footage. The shots instantly killed X.

On Thursday, a deputy testified that the second alleged gunman, Newsome, had spotted Allen being taken to prison transport when he shouted after him that he was working with police and working with the white man in a way to intimidate him as a “snitch.”

Drake nor his attorneys have not publicly acknowledged the order.

Cardi B attempted to clear the air on Wednesday afternoon hours after J Prince shaded Offset as “fake” and someone his family “hold their head down” when they speak of him.

J Prince has been on an extensive rant and press tour in the past few weeks as he speaks about Migos rapper, Takeoff’s death. The Rap-A-Lot CEO seems to have a bone to pick with Offset, whom he accused of saying things about him to others since his cousin died. It’s unclear what J Prince’s issue is, but his sons – J Prince Jr. and Jas Prince, have both received backlash as they hosted the dice game where Takeoff was killed.

Offset and Quavo have both been quiet since the rapper was killed, but J Prince, who has no relation to the Migos members, appears to be upset at Takeoff.

Days after Offset accused J Prince of playing “internet games” and capitalizing on Takeoff’s death in the media, J Prince went off on Offset again on Wednesday night as he claimed that Offset threatened him and his family.

“This clown Offset suffering from being a fake muthaf**** Disease. He wana play the victim now but he was a volunteer when he spoke threats about me and my family name in his mouth about what he gon do. Why you didn’t call me to talk is the twist he wants to use,” J Prince is heard speaking in a post on Instagram.

He continued, “tell lies to your woman n***ga, I don’t have time to listen to weak shit. Now you want to fake in front of a camera and trying to hide behind Takeoff mother when I have shown nothing but respect for her and family. See boy you acting like you a part of a family that don’t really fuck with you cause you a snake. Now you acting like you don’t know me from a can of paint, let me see if I can refresh your memory. Remember we talked when you got your ass whooped in Atlanta?”

In a caption, J Prince also wrote, “I’m glad I’m not one of those individuals that my family has to hold their head down when my name is mentioned,” as he urged that no matter what the media says or what people heard, “it’s cap.”

Offset has not responded, but Cardi B responded to chatter online. The “WAP” rapper liked a tweet where a fan wrote, “And why is J Prince discussing Takeoff family like he closer to them than Offset ever was?”

Cardi B also replied to a tweet from a follower who said she needed J Prince’s help to feel safe in LA.

“NEVER… tell him to show receipts… Only people that was there was Wack and Big U…why would he be calling for anything involving crips? Whole bunch of fairy tales,” Cardi B said.

“BIG LIES,” Cardi wrote in another tweet.

Days ago, J Prince had threatened Offset on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast.

“This Offset dude, I ain’t gon leave him out, you know I’m just real like this because you know, N***gas be throwing rocks and hiding their hands… For you to be taking these positions that you taking, you know what I mean? I got people everywhere, so I hear all kinds of things.”

He also threatened Offset to not put him in a position where he have to defend himself.

Offset has since responded to J Prince by calling him the police.

“Street Ni— turn never needed you for no smoke u da police all mouth with no proof just fairy tales let this be the last time we speak on this,” Offset tweeted.

Quality Control Music Sold To Scooter Braun’s HYBE America In $320 Million Deal

Black Immigrant Daily News

Atlanta-based hip hop label Quality Control owned by CEO Pierre “Pee” Thomas and COO Kevin “Coach K” Lee, has been sold to South Korean multinational entertainment company HYBE America.

The sale is for a reported U$320 million dollars between and was brokered by music manager Scooter Braun who runs HYBE America. The news about the deal broke on Wednesday night, with the parties releasing a joint statement about the acquisition.

“QC is one of the most significant independent labels in the world,” Braun said in a Variety report. “They not only distribute music, but they also distribute culture. Their artists are the voices of their communities.”

Quality Control is home to artists like Migos, Lil Baby, Lil Yachty, City Girls, Icewear Vezzo, Bankroll Freddie, Lakeyah, Gloss Up, and others. The label itself owns Solid Foundation Management which had Cardi B as a previous client, but she revealed in 2020 that she was looking for new management following a dispute between QC and Migos.

The label also owns Quality Films and QC Sports and, under the HYBE deal, will continue to be affiliated with Universal Music Group and Motown..The label was co-founded by P Thomas and Coach K in 2013, and they both shared that the deal is expected to expand the label’s brand and reach abroad.

“P and I are ecstatic about this partnership with Scooter and HYBE and are confident they can get us to our global ambitions we’ve had in our scope since the beginning of our company as nothing means more than our artists impacting worldwide,” Coach K said.

It’s unclear what this means for the artists signed to QC, which means they are now on the same roster with megastars BTS.

Thomas seemed to hint that HYBE is unlikely to change the label given its contribution to black culture, which is synonymous with hip-hop culture.

“HYBE are perfect partners for Quality Control as we come together to take our story and work global. … Taking QC worldwide requires key partners like this who understand building something from the bottom and aiming sky high. It matters to us greatly their grasp of culture and acutely seeing what QC has built and the limitless path of where it can go. … The artists of QC are our focus and their best interests will be incredibly supported with this partnership,” he said.

Braun also added, “It’s important to me and my team that P and Coach continue to have the freedom, and now our global resources, to continue to do what they do best; facilitate and nurture great art and culture.”

Braun previously managed Taylor Swift, and he currently manages Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.

In the meantime, many figures in hip hop celebrated the move, including Rich The Kid, Jamie Foxx, DJ Drama, Murda Beatz, and Rich Paul.

50 Cent Praises Cardi B For Her Meteoric Rise, Names Nicki Minaj His Favorite

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

50 Cent is impressed by Cardi B’s meteoric rise in hip hop but admits Nicki Minaj is his favorite of the two.

The G-Unit legend has much to celebrate as his career crowns with two decades as a successful rapper and his blooming empire that includes movies and television production and a luxury liquor line. 50 Cent more than anyone else knows about struggling to make a mark and the amount of hard work it takes for you to get that big break and land success as an artist.

In a new interview with Billboard about Hip Hop officially turning 50 years old this year, the artist spoke about all things hip-hop, his legacy, and plans to become a television mogul, reinventing himself musically, and he even shared his opinion about today’s hip-hop artists.

When asked what he thought about today’s artists, 50 Cent mentioned being inspired by Cardi B blowing up in 2017 from a stripper to one of the biggest rappers in the game.

“When Cardi B came, I thought she was dope. She’s from the bottom. She was in Club Lust in Brooklyn. [Going] from that and actually making a hit record and turning into who she did? I don’t know anybody who wouldn’t like to see that,” he said.

Fifty added that Cardi’s success is an example for young people.

“It felt like she got everything that year – got married, got the baby, everything really fast… that’s what the culture needs for people to see, the dream happening. that’s the American dream right there.”

Nevertheless, 50 Cent admitted that Nicki Minaj was his favorite between her and Cardi B, but that has nothing to do with their lyrical skills but rather Nicki’s fierceness.

“Hip-hop culture makes you battle. I love Nicki Minaj, but the funny s–t is, I like watching her when she’s upset,” 50 Cent said while discussing Nicki. “I like that because she has something that comes from the experience of living in South Jamaica. I’m looking at it like, “Yo, I know they think she’s nuts, but they only think that because they don’t understand.” I get it. She thinks you’re trying to play her.”

50 Cent also spoke about Nicki Minaj being in a place where she will check the temperature with new female rappers to see if they come to take over or are being friendly. Safaree Samuels, who dated Nicki for 12 years previously, echoed the same sentiments that Nicki was sweating over Cardi B’s rise.

50 Cent also spoke about his television plans, his famous beef with French Montana over the years, and even his close relationship with Eminem.

A month after the Davis couple revealed that they are expecting a baby girl, the couple on Thursday revealed that they welcomed their daughter, whose name is Iceland Ka’oir Davis. Keyshia Ka’oir shared a post on her Instagram account where she revealed that their daughter was born on February 8, 2023.

“Our little princess is here! Beautiful & Healthy! Iceland Ka’oire Davis,” she wrote with the pink heart emojis.

Gucci Mane and Keyshia are seen looking at and beaming at the baby. The post received more than 150k likes and congratulatory messages from the likes of Trina, City Girls rapper JT, and others. There were also many reactions to the baby’s name, which is similarly spelled to that of the country Iceland and the UK grocery store brand of the same name.

“Icelynn would have been ok,” one follower wrote. “Congrats but really Keyshia da name ice and Iceland ok,” another said. “Did they really name her Iceland,” another said.

Fans also reacted to Keyshia Ka’oir giving birth to the couple’s second child in two years, as they only shared two months ago that they were expecting.

Last month, the businesswoman shared that her second child with Gucci is going to be a baby girl. The couple previously welcomed baby Ice Davis in 2020. Both of them also have children from previous unions, but the youngest members of the Davis family certainly will keep their big sisters and brothers happy.

Ka’oir and Gucci surprised their fans with the news of her pregnancy in September, and Ka’oir also shared the sweet moment she revealed that they were about to have another baby.

“Let’s Have Another Baby ICE Needs Somebody To Play With,” she captioned the video referencing one of Gucci’s lyrics from earlier in the year.

Gucci Mane also rapped last year that he was thinking about his life and wanted to have another baby with his wife so his son could have someone to play with.

Tammy Rivera Calls Diplo A Hater For Comment About Beyonce Grammy Win

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Tammy Rivera has accused EDM Pop producer Diplo of being a “hater” after Beyoncé fans accused him of saying that the artist bought a Grammy award.

Beyoncé broke another record on Sunday as she won Best Electronic/Dance Album at the 65th Grammy awards ceremony. The moment marked another great milestone for Beyoncé, who earned a record-breaking 32 awards over her 22-year-old career and earned her the title of all-time awards champ of the Recording Industry Association of America.

Beyoncé’s fans celebrated the win, but many, including her husband, Jay-Z, felt that the artist was cheated out of another award- Album of the Year for her project, Renaissance. Fans online theorized that Beyoncé was cheated out of the award, and it seems that some felt that Diplo was one of those who hated to see the artist winning.

A video shared by a fan online showed the moment Beyoncé was named the winner of the EDM award, and the camera also showed Diplo mouthing something as he clapped for the singer. In the video, the fan interprets Diplo talking, “did he say they bought that?”.

Tammy Rivera also reacted to the video by writing on Instagram Story that Diplo was hating on Queen Bey. “If she bought that why not buy album of the year??? HATER,” she wrote along with the “congratulations” and the bee emoji.

Diplo was nominated for Best Dance/ Electronic Recording Grammy award for ‘” Don’t Forget My Love” and Best Dance/Electronic Music Album at this year’s award but did not win in either of the categories.

Despite the video, it seems that some fans felt that the producer was not being malicious as he previously worked with Beyoncé on several releases of her 2016 albums Lemonade and Run The World (Girls) in 2011.

“Some grown woman need to grow up he said I’m apart of that,” one fan wrote on Instagram.

“He said she broke that,” another said.

“That’s not an Edm record it should have not been in that category. Hence why he said they bought it,” another person wrote.

DDG Hints At Halle Bailey Breakup Delete Photos and Unfollowed Her On IG

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Fans on social media think that rapper DDG and songstress Halle Bailey have broken up after he posted a cryptic but shady tweet categorizing all women as the same.

On Tuesday, they shared a tweet and deleted post that fans thought was directed to Halle Bailey. “All these girls the same [crying emoji] ain’t no way,” he wrote. Fans immediately speculated that things were not well with the young couple, who began dating around March last year and were seen out on dates around the summer.

DDG and Halle confirmed their relationship with her sister Chloe Bailey blushing in an Essence interview back in October last year as she shared that she was in love with the “Elon Musk” artist.

“I’ve been a fan of his for years. I grew up being on YouTube and would always see the young Black creators and was constantly inspired by them. He was one of them,” Hall said about DDG, whom she took notice of in 2015.

“I completely forgot about him… then I saw that he was dropping music, and I really gravitated toward this one song. Coincidentally he messaged me—and the rest is history,” she said, smiling.

Well, fans think that the romance is ending faster than it started as they shared that DDG had unfollowed Hall on Instagram, and he has also deleted all of the photos of them shared over the past year.

On the other hand, Halle continues to follow DDG. Some fans speculated that DDG could be pulling an extreme prank, as usual, for his YouTube account. Neither artist has confirmed or denied the news, and as fans try to piece together what happened, there is very little to make sense of since the couple appeared happy together up to this point.

The couple was not seen together at the recent Grammy Awards, but they were spotted at several important events over the last year, including the BET awards and several functions like an Usher concert for his Las Vegas residency last year.

Kendrick Lamar’s Daughter Melt Hearts Reacting To His Grammy Speech

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Kendrick Lamar highlighted his family while accepting the award for Best Rap Album for his project, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, and his daughter had the best reaction as she watched her father accept the award from home while dressed up in her fancy gown.

On Sunday night, the rapper took home the coveted Best Rap Album Grammy award for the third time, having previously won in 2016 for his album, To Pimp a Butterfly and the 2018 project Damn. The artist also won big on Grammy night as he took home the Best Rap Song and “Best Rap Performance Grammys for his track, “The Heart Part 5”.

The artist had a brief acceptance speech which began by thanking his family, and his fiancée Whitney Alford shared a sweet video of his three-year-old daughter reacting to her father’s words.

“First and foremost, I want to thank my family for giving me the courage and vulnerability to share these stories and share my truth with this album,” he said.

“Daddy,” she says as she sees her father on the television.

“They’re talking about us, he’s talking about us, he’s talking about his family,” she sweetly says as she lists out the names of herself, her brother, and her mother making up their ‘family.’

The artist’s Grammy-winning album featured his daughter and son being held by him and his fiancée on the cover. Kendrick Lamar, 34, and Alford, 36, have been dating since high school.

The album cover was a surprise for many who were unaware that the rapper had children, while for some, it was the first time seeing them.

The album was also one of his most vulnerable yet as he revealed in one of the songs, “Mother I Sober,” that he had a “lust addiction,” and cheated on his fiancée, who was also his high school sweetheart.

As artists… we say things to provoke thoughts and feelings, and emotions.  “Making this record was one of my toughest albums to make,” he said in his acceptance speech as he thanked “the culture” for allowing him to express himself and “evolve” in the song “Mother I Sober.”

Cardi B Scolds Offset and Quavo Backstage The Grammys Amid Altercation

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Cardi B was not with the shenanigans as tensions ran high between Offset and Quavo while backstage at the Grammys on Sunday night.

Entertainment Report (ET) shared cell phone footage of Cardi B screaming at Quavo and Offset backstage on Sunday. There are reports that the two artists fought backstage at the Grammys over the In Memoriam tribute to Takeoff.

Offset had denied that there was a fight on Monday, writing on Twitter, “What tf [it] look like fighting my brother [y’all] n—s is crazy.”

The video, however, seems to suggest differently. In the video, Cardi B can be heard shouting while people mill around. “Both of y’all wrong, both of y’all. This is not right,” Cardi is heard shouting. She also addressed someone, telling them, “no, b**ch shut the f— up cuz you shouldn’t be talking.”

Cardi B also played off the incident when asked on camera whether she was settling something backstage. “The only thing I settled is my outfit, honey, haha,” a bubbly Cardi said.

Quavo and Offset reportedly fought over Offset being added to the In Memoriam tribute to honor Takeoff on Sunday night. The artist was shot and killed on November 1, 2022, and his family has been grieving and struggling to come to terms with his death, especially Offset and Quavo, who was to perform his tribute track “Without You.”

TMZ first reported that the two rappers had a tussle backstage, with Quavo blocking Offset from going on stage. The report did say that Offset tried to avoid the fight with Quavo, who eventually performed alone on stage.

The rapper was emotional as he performed the track that was released earlier this month. In the meantime, Quavo has not addressed the incident, but Offset denied that the he fought with his fellow Migos at the Grammys.
