Black Immigrant Daily News

Offset is yet to break his silence and speak on his cousin and Migos brother Takeoff’s death, but on Wednesday, he publicly reacted by showing love to the late rapper.

No doubt, the death of his cousin and Migos band member, Takeoff, who was shot and killed on Monday night (October 31), is weighing heavy on Offset, who not only grew up with Takeoff but they were also very close and remained on good terms despite the split of Migos earlier this year.

There’s been a somber mood in the hip-hop world following Takeoff’s death as fans, and other celebrities attempt to make sense of the tragedy.

On Wednesday, Offset changed his display photo to a close-up of Takeoff wearing dark sunglasses and smiling.

The other member of the Migos, Quavo, who was present when the incident took place, has not spoken about the tragedy. In videos shared online of the shooting, Quavo was seen screaming and crying in agony after realizing that Takeoff was shot and lay bleeding with a pool of blood around his head.

Meanwhile, fans have been reminiscing on the life of Takeoff. Videos of the late rapper’s many freestyles and clips from Migos’ music videos have been shared by fans who express the deep sense of loss many people felt after learning about the rapper’s passing.

A throwback video from 106 & Park in 2015 was also shared by another fan, where Bow Wow spoke to the three rappers and noted that up to that point, the Migos’ first men were Takeoff and Quavo, who held the group down while Offset was in jail.

In the video, Offset is asked about finally being able to join his family members, Takeoff and Quavo.

“First of all, it’s a blessing to come out of a situation like that but I been going in the studio,” Offset says, while Takeoff later adds that the group won’t stop.

On Twitter, many also shared messages of comfort and camaraderie for Offset and Quavo as they mourn Takeoff.

“Quavo and Offset gotta come back together and carry the Migos legacy. Do it for Takeoff man,” one fan wrote.

“Takeoff gone, quavo and offset on bad terms, its over but we need to celebrate migos run – a decade of hits, one of hiphops greatest groups, and probably the most influential atlanta artists in recent years outside of future thug and gucci,” another wrote.

“Offset was really looking like a whole proud father the way he reacted to Takeoff’s freestyle,” a third fan added.

Jah Cure Remains Behind Bars In Europe, Gets January 2023 Court Date

Black Immigrant Daily News

Reggae crooner Jah Cure was ordered to remain in custody as he awaits his appeal hearing. The artist was sentenced to six years in prison for the attempted manslaughter of a Dutch promoter last year.

He appeared before a judge for a pre-court appeal hearing but was ordered remanded to jail until January 24, 2023. Jah Cure’s pro forma hearing is a part of Dutch court procedure ahead of court appeal hearings, the Jamaica Observer reported on Tuesday.

The Netherlands Public Prosecution Office said that the hearing was routine and nothing new or different as it is often conducted to extend the court’s right to hold a suspect while he awaits his hearing. The “pro forma” hearing is conducted while Cure awaits a date for his court appeal hearing.

The artist is appealing his sentence on several grounds, including that the sentence is excessive and that the judge failed to take into consideration the fact that his claim of self-defense was not allegedly properly considered.

Jah Cure was sentenced in March 2022 for attempted manslaughter of the promoter, whom he claimed did not pay him and even threatened him with violence over the unpaid money. The reggae crooner was brought to the country to perform at a Reggae concert at the end of summer last year while he was on his European tour.

Jah Cure was initially charged with attempted murder and attempted manslaughter. He was acquitted of the first charge during his trial. However, Dutch prosecutors have also appealed the case and want Cure found guilty of attempted murder.

A date for the court appeal hearing has not been decided as yet. In the meantime, Cure, who turned 44 years old in prison, is well known for hit songs like “True Reflection (Prison Walls),” which he recorded after he returned from jail. The artist was serving a 15-year prison sentence for which he was convicted in 1999, but he was later released on a shortened sentence in 2007 due to good behavior.

Jah Cure has one daughter.

Video Shows Quavo Arguing With Another Man Before Takeoff Shooting

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

New video that captures the moments before Takeoff was killed on Monday night in Houston, Texas, has surfaced online giving fans a glimpse of what led to the shooting death of the artist.

The Atlanta rapper was shot and killed around 2:35 a.m. while out with his uncle Quavo while they joined a group of persons playing a dice game in what looked like a parking lot of the Billiards Bowling Alley.

The new video shared by TMZ gives a clue as to what led to Takeoff being shot. The video appeared to be taken by someone who was at the venue where the incident took place.

In the footage, Quavo, who is wearing an orange shirt, is seen arguing with another man. In the video, a man is heard telling Quavo he didn’t play like that. Another person says that they were being disrespected. Within seconds, persons are seen running as several gunshots ring out.

Takeoff, Popcaan, and Quavo in Jamaica

In the meantime, Quavo has not spoken since the incident. A video shared online showed the tragic aftermath with Takeoff, just 28 years old, lying as he bled out in a pool of blood on the parking lot floor while Quavo screamed in agony and disbelief.

The two rappers grew up together and have often spoken about being raised together and doing everything together, given their age is almost the same, as well as older cousin Offset. The trio formed the multi-platinum-selling group, Migos.

Offset has also not shared his thoughts or addressed the death of Takeoff, which has rocked the hip-hop community because of how quiet and soft-spoken the rapper is.

The police have not confirmed any arrest, nor has it confirmed what really happened. However, multiple accounts online from people who claimed to be present when the shooting occurred say that Quavo created the dangerous situation because he was arguing and tried to fight a man before things escalated.

Takeoff was reportedly shot by a member of his own entourage who allegedly began shooting wildly before someone else reportedly opened fire, hitting Takeoff in the head.

Takeoff’s family has not reacted to the rapper’s death.

The artist did not share the release date for her album, Pretty B*tch Music, which was initially set for release earlier this year but has since been pushed back to the end of 2022. However, According to Rolling Stone, the rapper recently celebrated the launch of The Single Life with Jack Daniels.

The “Icy Grl” rapper has had a long relationship with Jack Daniels and noted that she loved the brand because “they allow me to do me.” Saweetie, who appeared on Caresha Please last month but did not speak about her breakup with Quavo, says that she’s ready to speak about her dating life and post-breakup.

“I’m excited to share what I went through,” She said. “I think as I was making it, I was more proud to be single. Because I realized that I was growing, I realized that I was elevating. And I realized that I was becoming a better woman,” she says. “It was definitely revolutionary. It was heartbreaking. It was honest. It was a reflection. Quavo’s lyrics appear to hint that Saweetie had cheated on him. It’s unclear if Saweetie will speak about those rumors that allege that she slept with Quavo’s cousin Offset, which later saw the men having a falling out. For now, Saweetie says she’s enjoying singlehood and healing.

“If you can’t be by yourself, I think it’s a reflection of how you feel internally,” she says. “Like if you need to look for external sources to feel good internally, then I think that there needs to be a lot of shadow work and self-work done.”

She added that being single also helped her to create better music.

“I realized that I wasn’t writing from an honest standpoint when I first started because I wasn’t that vulnerable. I was very closed off,” she says. “I was raised to be strong, to be tough and not show any weakness.”

As for the date for the new album, Saweetie said, “she’s still in the womb, I haven’t popped her out. I want to thank my fans for patiently waiting. It’s been a year. It’s been a while. I’ve been recording officially for a year, non-stop.”

Earlier this year, Saweetie revealed that she had decided to record new songs and even hinted that after doing her album, she was not satisfied and decided to work and record some more before deciding on what the final tracks will be.

Migos Rapper Takeoff Shot Dead At 28 In Houston, Quavo Not Hurt

Black Immigrant Daily News

In a shocking turn of event for the Migos rap group, Takeoff, one-third of the Atlanta group, has died. Multiple sources confirmed with Urban Islandz that he was shot dead in an early morning shooting in Houston and passed away from his injuries at age 28.

The shooting took place at a bowling alley called 810 Billiards and Bowling Houston and happened around 2:30 AM. That’s when several witnesses began calling the police to say that a man had been shot at the bowling alley.

Takeoff, whose real name is Kirshnik Khari Ball, was the youngest member of Migos. He formed a part of the power trio that included Quavo, who is his uncle, and Offset.

According to reports from TMZ, Takeoff and Quavo were there playing dice when some sort of argument broke out. Following that, someone is believed to have opened fire, shooting Takeoff. The shot is believed to have either hit him in the head or near his head. He died at the scene.

Footage from the scene shows Quavo in an orange shirt and others gathered around Takeoff. They tried to move the “Walk It, Talk It” rapper but gave up on the attempt. Quavo can then be heard urgently calling for help. He was not hurt in the shooting.

Authorities have disclosed that two other people were shot and have been taken to the hospital. Their condition hasn’t been confirmed as yet. It would seem that Quavo was having a night out on the town as just a few hours before the shooting, he posted a video driving around Houston with Jas Prince, who was celebrating his birthday.

It also looks like Takeoff was part of the party, as he also posted a selfie a few hours earlier from the bowling alley.

The group started their journey in 2008 in Georgia and would go on to become multi-platinum hitmakers. Their first major hit was “Versace” in 2013. They would ride the success of that hit and would record a number-one hit on Billboard in 2016 with “Bad and Boujee.”

Earlier this month, while speaking on the Big Facts podcast ahead of their album release, Quavo shared his thoughts and confirmed that the Migos were no longer together.

“I just feel like we want to see our career as a duo, you know what I’m saying, because, you know, we just came from a loyal family. We are supposed to stick together,” he said at the time.

Our condolences go out to the family at this difficult time as the hip-hop community tries to come to terms with yet another violent gun death of a young rapper.

Quavo was not hurt in the shooting incident.

Shenseea Makes Surprise Performance At Romeich Birthday Bash With Ding Dong

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Romeich Major was thoroughly surprised after his former artiste Shenseea popped out on stage to serenade him for his birthday.

While at Water Worl on Sunday, commemorating the artist’s birthday, Romeich was distracted by dancer turn deejay Ding Dong who encouraged the artist to pay attention to the crowd and take videos. However, Shenseea’s song “Dolly” came on with the artist speaking in the background. Major appeared caught off guard as Shenseea ran out on stage to perform the song.

In a post on Instagram, he shared that he was genuinely surprised and even became emotional at the gesture. “Biggest bday surprise not only for #WrayRumWaterWorl but for me!!! Never know @shenseea did a fly een back big up my team for this lovely surprise love uno bad a swear,” Romeich wrote. “I actually was so happy 2 tears fell on stage.”

Shenseea and her former manager have a very close relationship as he is the Godfather of her son Rajeiro while she is also godmother to his daughter, Skye. Major is credited by Shenseea for discovering her and not only unearthing her talent but also helping to chart her from a young dancehall artist to now a hip-hop artist.

Shenseea previously worked with Major as a bottle service waitress and later impressed upon him that she had talent before he tasked her with writing her first song, “Jiggle Jiggle,” which was her debut single that catapulted her career.

The Artist has been living in the United States since signing a new manager, Sal Slaiby, that manages artists like Doja Cat and The Weeknd. While she was in Jamaica recently and even shared that she was enjoying the food and taking a break from work, it was apparent that she was back in the U.S.

However, it seems that Shenseea, who gifted Major and two other teammates Rolex watches earlier this year, returned to surprise Major at his birthday event.

She also shared her appreciation to Major by gifting him a plot of land adjacent to his Romeich Headquarters, where the studio where Shenseea first recorded her music is located and where she would report for work as a waitress.

Major’s event his past weekend was the culmination of a three-day entertainment weekend from October 28-30, which saw the celebrations kick off with the Hennessy-sponsored Top 500 event with every ‘who is a who’ in Jamaica only being able to attend on an invitation basis.

There was also a street dance and Water Worl to end things.

Shenseea, in comments, praised Major as she noted that he “one always have mi back” and “is a father figure to my son Rajeiro.”

Shenseea also spoke about Romeich being the one to take her out of living in poverty in the ghetto where she couldn’t even afford slippers, and was also the one that made her travel on a plane for the first time.

Meanwhile, Shenseea was commended by label mate Ding Dong and others, especially fans who noted the loyalty that existed between Shenseea and Romeich.

Kiprich Drops “Women Protest” Song Against Killing Of Women

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Kiprich tackles men killing women with new song “Women Protest.”

As a nation, Jamaica continues to mourn the sudden and tragic deaths of Donna-Lee Donaldson and Aneka ‘Slickianna’ Townsend. A large portion of the population has banded together to send a message that violence towards women should never be the answer.

A number of entertainers have joined the outcry and are determined to help effect some sort of change that hopefully will someday end violence towards women. Among those entertainers is Kiprich, who recently penned a track called “Women Protest.” It is expected to be released next month by Chase Mills Records.

He joins some veterans in the genre, like Baby Cham and Bounty Killer, who continue to urge men to protect women instead of harming them.

The “Facebook” artist’s team is currently working on the video for the track, which will feature women and girls who were victims of gender-based violence or who have gone missing in recent years.

Kiprich, whose real name is Marlon Plunkett, spoke with The Gleaner and explained his motivation behind the track. The “Dancehall Gallis” deejay shared that he is tired of the headlines that seem to be repeating themselves.

His fear is that with so many women going missing in recent times, especially at the hands of men, it is starting to become a trend. He also said that Jamaica trends for much more positive reasons globally, and so he is adamant that the femicide rate should not be one of those.

Slickianna

“The man dem need to fi realise say dem nuh own no woman life … allow the woman dem fi live dem life because is because of them, we have life. There is never no ‘explainable’ reason for a man to use his force or a weapon to take a woman’s life and think him can justify it. That is a weak man,” he added.

The “Call Di Lawd” artist also gave the assurance that the track was not for his own benefit but hopefully can reach some of the men in society to show them that there is a better way forward than ending a woman’s life. He also shared that he believes now is the right time for dancehall deejays to focus on these types of topics, especially since the government has banned more violent and drug-filled lyrics on the airwaves.

According to him, there is always room for more positive music. That type of positivity is something that he has always focused on, he continued.

“Jamaica is a blessed island; so much is happening globally that has bypassed us and while we do have our struggles economically there must be a way to make things better for us as a people to escape being part of the global tragedy of femicide,” he continued.

He also questioned why the Jamaican society at large had become so aggressive and had seemed to turn away from the positivity it was once known for.

The veteran deejay added that he wants to see all types of violence against women canceled.

Two other dancehall artists, Jahshii and Christopher Martin, also have used their platform to send a message to men. Most recently, they used the Reggae Sumfest stage to highlight the need to stop violence against women.

Singer Sevana Pleads Guilty To Death By Dangerous Driving

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Reggae artist Sevana pleaded guilty to one count of death by dangerous driving when she appeared in court on Monday.

The reggae singer will know her fate when she returns to court on November 17 for sentencing. She is facing a minimum of five years in jail. The 30-year-old reggae artist appeared in the Westmoreland Circuit Court, where her trial was scheduled to start before Justice Courtney Daye. However, the proceedings did not go further as Sevana’s lawyer, attorney-at-law Everton Deward, indicated that she wished to enter a guilty plea for the May 2021 killing.

The facts by the prosecution are that Sevana, who had received her driver’s license just about a week before the accident occurred, had been driving a Honda Fit motor car along the Scott Cove main road in Whitehouse, Westmoreland, when she struck Ordia Cordiel, who was going in the opposite direction.

Cordiel was rushed to the Black River Hospital, where she was admitted for serious bodily injuries, but she later died on May 30 due to the injuries she suffered. Sevana was charged the next day.

The singer, who is also from Westmoreland, was born Anna Blake. Since her arrest and charge, Sevana has been on bail. Earlier this year, she was granted bail in the sum of JM$400,000 bail with no conditions. On Monday, after she pleaded guilty, she was fingerprinted and ordered to return to court on November 17.

The singer, who is signed to RCA label, was also allowed permission to travel as her music career involves traveling.

Sevana is known for songs like “Mango” and “Set Me On Fire”. Starting as a Digicel Rising Stars contestant in 2008, Sevana’s girl group SLR showed major promise for the music industry and eventually placed third in the overall competition.

Although the group did not last, Sevana went on with her solo career. She was later associated with Grammy-nominated artist Protoje, and she was featured on a track called “Sudden Flight.”

Before her RCA label deal, Sevana was signed to Protoje’s In.Digg.Nation Collective label. However, since her recent legal woes, she is no longer associated with that label.

Under her RCA Label, she released “If You Only Knew” earlier this year.

Mavado Gets Trial Date For Fraud Case Against Jennifer Messado

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Dancehall veteran Mavado will have to wait until next year to know if he will recoup any money from former embattled lawyer Jennifer Messado. The disgraced lawyer is accused of defrauding the Gully Gad of millions of dollars in a fake real estate deal.

The dates have been set for March 1, March 2, and March 3, according to Mavado’s lawyer Oswest Senior-Smith who shared the information with The Star.

According to reports, the “Give It All to Me” deejay lost out on about JM$30 million in a 2017 real estate transaction. There is no word yet on how Mavado will present evidence in the case. At first, it was supposed to be via video link, but since then, there has been some confusion as to whether or not there is a warrant out for his arrest on the island. If so, he will not be allowed to testify.

Jennifer Messado

A year after the allegations were made public, the Constant Spring police issued a notice for Mavado to report to the police station for questioning in an ongoing investigation. That investigation was focused on the violence in Cassava Piece, St Andrew.

He has since made his feelings on the upcoming case and the issue of a potential warrant very public. Just last month he took to Instagram to make his feelings on the matter known.

“The same police that locked my son up years ago, are also the same police that suddenly that came up with this warrant four years later… years ago when I left Jamaica, I left things in my lawyers’ hands. My lawyers – both overseas and Jamaica – were in regular communication with the Jamaica Constabulary Force,” he said at the time.

Initially, the case was supposed to proceed on September 12, but the matter was adjourned.

His attorney also gave no update on this issue of the warrant but did say that Mavado’s potential testimony is a little more than providing a framework and that the critical witnesses are the two people who gave the accused lawyer the various sums on behalf of the veteran artist.
