Safaree Says Kimbella Matos Relationship Ended Despite Love & Hip Hop Appearance

Black Immigrant Daily News

Safaree says he is not in a relationship with Kimbella Matos, the woman who had a blow-up with his ex-wife Erica Mena shortly after the couple announced their divorce.

Kimbella Matos was spotted out with Safaree for his birthday last year while his wife gave birth to their son Legend. They were later linked together as dating after Erica Mena confirmed that the Instagram model was seeing Safaree.

Erica was not particularly pleased and had even had words with Kimbella over her decision to be with Safaree. On Thursday, Kimbella appeared on a clip of an upcoming episode of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta where she and Safaree talked about his relationship with Erica, and Safaree also clarified that she is just his lady friend.

“You get your own bag, I like that. I like a woman who hustles and have ambition because all I do is work,” Safaree tells Kimbella as they are seen walking and holding hands and later kissing in public.

Erica & Safaree @iamerica_mena

“You just make me very happy. I respect you and I respect your situation all the way. I would never come interfere and I feel like I don’t want no issues with anything because I really have nothing to do with that,” Kimbella says without mentioning Safaree’s issues with the mother of his two children.

Safaree, however, reassures Kimbella that his decision to agree to Erica’s divorce had nothing to do with the 26-year-old.

“You’re not the reason I got a divorce ok,” he says while she added, “and that’s what a lot of people think. People think and got this narrative of me that I caused your relationship to end.”

In a cutaway scene, a producer asks Safaree an important question about his relationship with Matos, “Erica knows about this girl…how do you think Erica will react when she sees you with Kimbella?” a producer asks Safaree.

“She’s not my girlfriend,” Safaree says as he adds, “honestly this is just a stage of me and Kimbella getting to know each other. As far as how my ex would feel, that’s really not my problem.”

In the comments under the post, many people called Safaree out for claiming that Kimbella is not his girlfriend despite their homemade porn videos leaking on the internet.

“This was filmed 7 months ago stop tagging me,” Safaree urged.

Some comments also flamed Safaree for his comments and response.

“You brought her on the show and was gassing her up Jean vest! That’s so bad,” one person said.

“7 months so wasn’t you married still?” another asked.

“Why bring her on the show then,” another asked.

It’s unclear if Safaree and Kimbella are still together or finally together.

Wizkid preps his new album while dropping off some new music.

The Afrobeats singer on Thursday previewed a new track from his upcoming album “Money & Love” and also announced the release date for his upcoming album More Love, Less Ego. This album is Wizkid‘s fifth studio album, and while it is not yet available in the United States, the artist shared a screenshot of the track list of the project already released in Doha, Qatar.

The artist also shared the music video for “Money & Love,” which has 90s vibes to it, including women fully clothed reading magazines at a bus stop while the artist sips from a fancy tea cup.

Wizkid’s career has been steadily growing over the years as he put in work with Drake, Justin Bieber, and Beyoncé and even had one of the biggest Afrobeats tracks, putting the genre on the map and helping to secure its own Grammy category.

With tracks like “Essence,” featuring Tems, and his recent collaboration with Chris Brown, “Call Me Everyday,” the artist has helped to pave the way for Afrobeats fusion in the United States mainstream market.

Wizkid More Love Less Ego

In August, Wizkid earned a new milestone and a career first as the only artist from the continent of Africa to earn a Recording Industry of America Association (RIAA) Gold certification for his album Made in Lagos.

Along with his album sales commendation, he is also a four (4) time Grammy nominated artist, and he also won his first Grammy award for “Brown Skin Girl” after working on Beyonce’s ‘Black is King’ album.

Wizkid also holds two other RIAA Gold certifications, one for the Grammy-nominated single “Come Closer,” featuring Canadian rapper Drake and another for Beyonce’s “Brown Skin Girl.” While speaking about his achievements, the artist spoke about Afrobeats going global.

“I don’t see it like that,” he said. “I don’t think I’m the first through it. I don’t know what I did, but it just kicked the door open. I feel like everyone’s about to come through right now. There’s about to be loads of records from Africa,” he said in August.

Last month, the Grammys revealed that it was visiting countries in Africa to canvas support for a possible Grammy category for Afrobeats. The genre has also received its own separate playlists on streaming platforms and charts as it grows internationally.

Rihanna’s First Solo Song In 6 Years “Lift Me Up” Invoke Fans Emotions

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Rihanna released her first solo single in six years, “Lift Me Up,” and fans can’t contain themselves.

The song was released around midnight across platforms and YouTube as fans heard new music from Rihanna for the first time in six years. “Lift Me Up” is expected to be one of two solo tracks Rihanna is set to release in the coming weeks ahead of the release of Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The second installation of the movie features Chadwick Boseman as the Marvel superhero, but the tone of the song is already hinting at what fans will expect from the storyline. The song isn’t like Rihanna’s usual music, with traces of Nigerian singer Tems, who co-wrote the song. Rihanna’s vocals are nevertheless a breath of fresh air as the pop singer holds several high notes and deep inflections.

The movie is set to be released on November 11, but Rihanna’s song has a touch of sorrow and mourning and brings the feels.

“Life me up, Hold me down, Keep me close, Safe and sound, Burning in a hopeless dream, hold me when you go to sleep, keep me in the warmth of your love when you depart, keep me safe, safe and sound,” the first verse of the song says.

The verse and song give an idea of what fans can expect as Wakanda Forever is sure to be very emotional and sad as the main character is speculated to have died in the show.

Boseman, who played Black Panther protagonist T’Challa, died in 2020 after battling colorectal cancer, and Marvel producers opted to keep the scenes he filmed and continue the movie with him as the superhero rather than re-cast for a replacement.

On Thursday night, fans reacted to the song, with some sharing their approval while others expressed the longing for Rihanna’s usual sounds.

“I was 3 seconds into the song and i was crying in the street already,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“Song is incredible. Music like that lasts for years to come not just for the moment forsho,” another person wrote on Instagram.

“It was a beautiful song! It was perfect for the movie… I just wish they gave her a record like All thé stars with Kendrick ft SZA but her voice is still there!” another person said.

“Tems was all over the song I could hear her,” one person wrote.

“It’s not gone be a dry eye in that theatre do you hear me,” another said.

50 Cent Considering Kanye West Idea of Building School In Houston

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Kanye West is looking to expand his school Donda Academy to Houston, Texas, and he wants 50 Cent to help him.

Just a day after it was announced that Donda Academy had abruptly closed the school for the remainder of the academic year, which runs till May/June, and sent parents scattering to retrieve their $15,000 a year tuition, the rapper switched gears and announced that the school will be opened on Thursday and asked parents and children to show up for devotion.

“Dear Donda Academy Families- we hope this email finds you well. First, we would like to express our gratitude for the community of families and scholars that Donda Academy brought together. However, at the direction of our Founder, Donda Academy will close for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year effective immediately. Thursday, October 27th. THERE IS NO SCHOOL TOMORROW,” a letter purportedly from the school read.

“Our leadership team will be working diligently to assist all families during this transition, ensuring that every scholar has what they need to succeed in their next community in a prompt and gracious manner.”

As companies and even personalities announced that they cut ties with Kanye West following his antisemitic remarks, 50 Cent also appeared to joy troll the “Gold Digger” rapper as he poked fun at himself with a fake news headline.

“Curtis Jackson has reportedly cut ties with 50 Cent,” Fif wrote in a post on Instagram, which had a picture of him in a suit representing Curtis Jackson and a photo of him smoking weed and counting money in a sweat suit to represent 50 Cent the rapper.

He added, “I’m getting rid of anybody who can get me fvcked up like kanye right now ! LOL.”

Kanye later reposted a screenshot of 50 Cent’s post writing,

“We got Donda school designs we need to build with 50 in Houston,” he wrote.

While fans are of the opinion that 50 is trolling Kanye, the idea of his Donda Academy and G-Unity foundation that’s been paying for business programs for students of Houston High School coming together is impressive.

Still, 50 Cent might not be interested, as the rapper recently said in an interview that Kanye’s outbursts indicated that he was in a dangerous place.

“He’s in a dangerous area,” 50 said in an interview as he spoke about Kanye’s ‘’slavery was a choice” comments and his MAGA hat saga.

50 Cent also said he is strongly considering building a school in Houston because its something that he has never done before and Ye idea intrigue him. “You know the vibes i’m on the move. I never built a school, I might really build one in Houston,” Fifty said.

DaBaby Says He Lost $100 Million From Being Canceled, Shade Megan Thee Stallion

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

DaBaby says that since his Rolling Loud controversy in July, he lost more than 100 million dollars.

The rapper’s career has been on a downward spiral since July 2021 after he made disparaging and insensitive comments about the LGBTQ community and people living with HIV/AIDS. Since then, he was dropped by several festivals, and not only has his bookings dried up, but there has been a lull in his career with him being unable to pull much of a crowd while he has also seen some of the lowest sales of his career. The rapper has insisted that he is being blackballed by streaming platforms.

The Rolling Loud appearance resulted in several major controversies, which DaBaby proudly insists are “three viral moments.” In particular, the rapper brought out collaborator Tory Lanez right after Megan Thee Stallion’s set, which was problematic in itself as Lanez was on bond and had strict conditions to abide by, which included keeping his distance from Megan as his felony assault case goes on.

The appearance led to Lanez’s bond being revoked for violating the terms of his release, and he was arrested and placed in jail before he was granted a second bond at a much higher amount.

Since then, DaBaby’s career has taken a nosedive, but the rapper insists that he can’t be canceled. While speaking with Ebro Darden on Tuesday, he explained that he had lost a lot of money over the last year.

“F**k no, I’m not into the conspiracy theory this and that until you see it cost a n***ga a 100 million dollars within a year’s span, then you see this real, this ain’t no conspiracy s**t, this s**t real,” DaBaby said.

Tory Lanez and Dababy

DaBaby, who recently released a song claiming that he slept with Megan Thee Stallion, was called out for bringing Tory Lanez out on stage, especially since he and Megan previously collaborated on music, but their relationship appeared to have soured. The rapper, however, said he didn’t care about fans thinking that he was antagonizing the Houston rapper by bringing Lanez on stage.

“Nah, I could care less, if I wanted, the song I just put out, the second a n****ga played he tough on the internet, I could have busted a n****a bubble…stand on your business without involving me, don’t make me say why you feel some type of way about this song coming out..me and bruh been did this song before whatever alleged altercation they had,” DaBaby said.

The “Sneaky Link Anthem” rapper says that he didn’t care about Megan’s situation as it had nothing to do with him.

“This n***ga paid me for the verse, paid me for the video, crazy, what am I gonna do? Because of an alleged situation he got going on that don’t got nothing to do with me, I’m not supposed to not give this man what he paid for? Not post this sh*t, it’s not that deep,” DaBaby insisted.

DaBaby also appeared to shade Megan Thee Stallion over their collaboration “Nasty” featuring Ashanti, where he hinted that the “WAP” rapper used him to get on Billboard charts.

“They already got what they needed me for, they came to me to get on Billboard, to get a position on Billboard, they already got that..you paid for that, you got that, that is what it is, no hard feelings.”

Despite his career appearing to slow down, the rapper also insisted in a part of the interview that he is still an “international rockstar.”

“I’m real n***ga rock star. Like I said out my mouth. These people looking at me, when I say these people I mean everybody, like the world, they look at me household name like superstar, like international superstar, I still am an international superstar.”

DaBaby also addressed the recent track “Boogeyman,” where he claimed he slept with Megan but did not say whether his claims were true or not.

“It is what it is. I said a long time ago, keep me out the business. It’s a song. It’s out right now. N***gas can take it how they want to take it.” He said adding that backlash won’t make him change the lyrics.

Elsewhere in the interview, the rapper also appeared to blame the mother of his child, fellow rapper DaniLeigh for not talking to her brother, who later fought with DaBaby and his security detail. The beatdown was caught on tape, but the rapper has not taken any responsibility for his role in the fight, which left Dani’s brother Brandon badly beaten.

Shaggy Invites Jamaican Artists To Learn From His Mistakes: “Anybody Can Come”

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Shaggy is constantly dropping gems and sharing his knowledge with younger artists. In a sit down with Anthony Miller on ER, the artist shares that it took him years to learn the business of dancehall before he was able to see his career bloom financially.

According to Shaggy, after networking with artists like Sting and traveling with others, he came to understand and see music and the kind of money it could make. The dancehall legend wants to see younger Jamaican artists tap into their full potential.

But while he is always willing to share information, the ‘Boombastic’ singer says that not all of the artists he crosses paths with are willing to be mentored.

“Put it this way, there is an old saying in Jamaica, carry the donkey to the water and you can’t make him drink. I’m not saying probably the first 10 won’t, but maybe you find one that does, maybe that one won’t be the most talented either but just the hardest worker and that always wins,” he says.

The artist also spoke about dancehall and reggae lagging commercially on the global stage while genres inspired by dancehall, like Afrobeats and Reggaeton, have gone mainstream.

“Education,” the artist says as he emphasizes the point that the lack of education is a big factor.

“I’ve seen artists who’ve gotten prime opportunities and because of hustle mentality decided they’re not gonna take it. If you get a manager who don’t know how to build a career they just know how to collect money, you’re gonna have a problem…for me, my biggest thing right in the position I am in now is to create a platform to teach. Anybody can come to me to ask me [anything],” he said as he explained that he had a lengthy conversation with Dexta Daps.

Shaggy added that emotional intelligence and seeing the big picture was very important, especially since an opportunity that doesn’t bring a lot of money may provide a doorway to something way bigger. The Jamaican artist added that he would not only mentor but also connect the artists with reputable lawyers and other professionals who can help their careers.

Spice and Shaggy

Shaggy also said he planned to bring industry professionals from the United States to speak to and share knowledge with artists.

“I want to bring some of my friends, people I deal with, the head of some of these companies and bring them down to Jamaica…just let people learn. It don’t cost people to do knowledge, just come in and learn and draw your own conclusion…there is music business but there’s also the business of music and you need to learn that part,” he continued.

“I’m telling you this 10% if I know then what I know now, I wouldn’t, the amount a money I woulda swim inna but I did not know and I was around people who didn’t know and didn’t want to admit they didn’t know,” Shaggy said.

Shaggy, who received an honorary doctorate from Brown University this year for his contribution to music and culture, has been in music for over two decades. The singer, who has had several notable gigs with Disney and has had his music featured on films soundtracks, shared that opportunities for artists are many but warned that not tapping in to expand potential risks losing major income.

“There’s so much to learn, it is so vast, the amount of avenues of income this entertainment business can bring and if you don’t know how to monetize it, you’re lost and other people will take it, once there’s an opportunity to take you they will,” he said.

Shaggy also touched on the recent debate that reggae belonged to Africa. Still, unlike some opinions which agreed with Stonebwoy, who drew the conclusion, the artist says that Jamaica’s contribution is undeniable and not to be confused with any other argument.

“Each one of these genres, whether it be Reggaeton, whether it be Afrobeats, whether it be Hip Hop, all derive from reggae and dancehall, whether they want to admit or not,” he said.

As for his career being successful, Shaggy says that he has little patience for disrespect as he pointed out that getting international collaborations isn’t as cut and dry as some of the bigger artists are quite disrespectful.

Shaggy did not name any artist, but he claimed that an artist had reached out to him to collaborate and then ghosted him. He also claimed that, in one instance, an artist had asked for $30,000 just to show up to shoot the music video. He also wanted first-class tickets and other ridiculous demands before the song was even commercially successful.

In another instance, he paid for the wardrobe for one artist, but the male artist showed up in a t-shirt to shoot the themed video. In other instances, Shaggy says that some artists are also unwilling to assist with promoting the song using something as simple as their social media.

“Then when dem deh pan the song, them don’t even give you a tweet,” he said as he highlighted working with Sean Paul, who has had to do a lot of work on his own to ensure the collaborations he releases are successful.
