Sidem Öztürk Talks ‘Yam Head’ Criticism and Being Vybz Kartel Muse: Interview

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

It’s been a little over a month since the Gaza Boss Vybz Kartel revealed that he is now engaged to Turkish beauty Sidem Öztürk.

The pair confirmed their engagement to Urban Islandz in August. According to Sidem, they first met in 2015 as just a fan of his music, but over the years, their relationship became more. Vybz Kartel has been incarcerated since 2012, but that has not stopped the artist from finding love, as he sings about in his latest EP True Religion where he addresses matters of the heart and even dedicates music to his future wife.

The news about the engagement has been met with shock, dismay, and disappointment by some, and others have even questioned whether the relationship is a public relations (PR) relationship to aid Kartel’s career.

In an exclusive interview with Urban Islandz, Sidem Öztürk, however, discusses how she manages the reactions of Kartel’s fans, what she loves about the ‘Worl’Boss’, and their plans for the future.

Since your interview about Vybz Kartel and your engagement, people are criticizing you for quitting her job in England and moving to Jamaica. Some even say you are a “Yam head.” How do you respond?

“People will always find something to criticise, so I always follow my own heart and mind and anyone that knows me knows that about me. I quit my job and left my life in London because I truly believe in what Addi and I have. People are under the impression that I am new in Addi’s life or that we haven’t built a solid foundation. To some people, I am a ‘Yam Head’ and to others, I am a strong-minded person who went after what she believes.”

“Like I said, no matter what I do people will always have something to say. I cannot let other people’s perceptions and opinions affect me or my life choices. I don’t follow the crowd I follow what I believe in and I believe in what Addi and I have. If that makes me a ‘Yam Head’ then so be it. I’m sure we all been a Yam Head at some point of our lives – whether a Yamabella or a Yamabello.”

Many of Vybz Kartel’s fans were shocked to hear he is engaged for obvious reasons, and some are curious about who Sidem is. Tell us a little about yourself.

“Sidem Ozturk is a 32-year-old (33 in November) who always follows her heart. I was born on the 13th of November so that makes me a cut and dry Scorpio. I studied Psychology at university and I have dabbled a bit in Sociology and Philosophy. I see myself as an introvert as I prefer to be alone or in quiet spaces. I am of Kurdish descent but was born in Turkey. I migrated to the UK from a very young age and I have been living in London for 29+ years.”

Sidem Ozturk

How do you feel about Kartel making music for/about you?

Sidem: “Honestly, I have been a huge fan of Vybz Kartel’s music from a very very young age. I literally used to only play his music in my car or at home. Not only was I in love with his music but I was physically very attracted to him too. I used to tell people I am going to marry Vybz Kartel but who would actually think such a dream would come true? It’s not something that happens often. Before I even met Addi I had a dream I visited him in prison and we connected. To be where we are today is a miracle; it’s like I manifested it. I always believed I would be perfect for him as I knew he was perfect for me.”

“To have my favorite #1 artist dedicate not only a song but a whole album for me is another miracle. I still cannot believe it. I am over the moon about it. How many people can say their #1 artist has dedicated an album to them? I am blessed enough to be able to say that!”

Do you inspire his creative process for his new music and if yes, how?

Sidem: “Addi’s inspiration comes from the foundations of our relationship. I have always kept it real with Addi and that’s what he pulls from. We are not only interested in each other romantically but we also have a friendship. He is my bestfriend and I am his. “lovers and friends” is a magical combination and an amazing concept to pull from, so I became his muse.”

How do you connect with the love of your life, do you write love letters to each other to communicate and maintain the relationship?

Sidem: “I left the UK and moved to Jamaica to better maintain our relationship. This way we are able to keep in contact and see other more often. The prison visits and authorised telephone calls enable us to connect better. Me moving to Jamaica was long overdue – what people are seeing now is what we have built over the years.”

There are accusations you are in a PR relationship to keep Vybz in the news. How do you respond to this or handle these accusations?

Sidem: “People are actually saying that? Are these people for real??!! Listen, If there is one thing I have learned from this experience its that haters will say what they want and doubters will believe in what they will. I think the PR accusations are quite hilarious and downright silly, to be honest.”

“I’ve been with Addi for years and this is real life, our real life. Not a publicity stunt or a “for your entertainment” scenario. Addi is in the spotlight so naturally developments in his life are going to be highlighted in the media but what people are clearly forgetting is he has a life of his own, we have a life of our own and not everything is done for media coverage.”

Are you involved in managing the business side of Vybz Kartel’s music like his label?

Sidem: “Addi and I work well as a team both outside and inside of business. I was the one who managed his Vybzkartel Instagram since before it was called vybzkartel, made public and verified! Plus I do a lot of monetary transactions on his behalf as well. He trusts me with his heart as well as his emotional and financial well-being. In effect, he’s my CEO and I’m his COO.”

Sidem Ozturk

What’s your favorite Vybz Kartel song and why?

Sidem: “It is impossible to pick a favorite song from Vybz Kartel because he is my favorite artiste and to my mind, the greatest artiste! He has a huge catalog of high-quality music which makes that question impossible to answer. Addi’s music is captivating. You learn from him and you have fun with him while listening to them so I cannot reduce Vybz Kartel to 1 favourite song. I wonder if any true fan would be able to pick just 1 song from his immense catalog? I doubt it.”

For years now, some of VK’s female fans have been harsh and some hateful towards you, how do you navigate this and does it bother you?

Sidem: “Can you blame them? Lol. I would carry some sort of jealous feelings if I watched Addi start a relationship with another female. I am blessed enough that it is me and not anyone else. So why concentrate on the negative when I have something so positive?”

“To be honest, I am aware people are not familiar with me (even though our relationship is in its seventh and most wonderful year this far) and that in itself breeds contempt. I am able to accept things for what they are and I am able to not take everything personal.”

“To be with someone like Addi you have to be thick-skinned. I am thicker-skinned than I look and that helps me to navigate myself and my emotions. I do not let the negative words from the virtual world leak into my reality.”

Sidem Öztürk announced last month that she and the Worl’Boss were now engaged. The artist is presently awaiting the outcome of his criminal conviction for murder at Jamaica’s highest court of appeal, the Privy Council in England.

Kartel shares three children with ex-girlfriend Tanesha ‘Shorty’ Johnson. The artist is being held at the Tower Street prison and has expressed hope that he will be released on appeal.

Vybz Kartel has not spoken about the engagement, but he has left a note on his Instagram page following Ozturk’s interview last month, “Who vex? Drink water & mind yuh business!” he wrote on Instagram.

Kartel’s True Religion EP is out now.

50 Cent Criticized His Song Marquise Jackson On His 26th Birthday

Black Immigrant Daily News

50 Cent says his son, who is 26 today, is too old to be talking about child support

It looks like all 50 Cent‘s son, Marquise Jackson, wanted was his father’s attention. His way of getting it was his $6,700 offer for some quality father-son time. That’s if we’re to go by a recent interview that he did with TMZ, where he expressed that all he really wanted was to have a conversation with his dad and get his side of why their relationship is so strained. He’s willing to do it even if they don’t agree with each other.

Marquise Jackson admitted that he was quite unsure as to if a sit-down would bring any sort of healing but that he wanted to extend an olive branch. “If you’re up for it, I’m up for it. I’m definitely willing to sit down with him so I can hear his perspective and gain a little bit of understanding. We’re both men at the end of the day – we should be able to agree and disagree and it not be a problem,” he further shared.

Jackson went on to say that his father, for some reason, believes that he is just an entitled kid, but he knows that is not the case. For him, It’s never been about the money but more so the relationship with his dad, he added.

Marquise Jackson once again reiterated that he has no idea if any sort of good would come about with a meeting with the veteran rapper, but he really wants to try and make peace. He also has questions that he thinks he needs to ask for clarity about their current relationship.

Again he said it was something he would be willing to pay for in the interest of healing. “Maybe we could just gain understanding of each other, maybe we could understand each other a little bit better, and maybe that’s what a better situation looks like. But I can’t tell you exactly what it should look like or what it would look like,” he added.

He continued on to say that as he got more mature, he started to think more about their relationship, and while he thinks that the situation is unfortunate, he’s just not sure what can be done at this point.

Just earlier this month, the younger Jackson caused a social media storm when he offered his father the $6,700-a-month child support payment for a sit-down. His reasoning at the time was that the money he received from 50 Cent wasn’t enough to maintain his lifestyle in New York City.

When fans shared their opinion of his attitude, he made the offer.

“Since y’all think $6,700 is sooo much money someone tell my pops I will pay him $6,700 for just 24hr of his time so we can do everything I ever wanted to do with him as a kid,” he wrote at the time while spelling out “Entitled” with cash in his photo.

The successful television exec has since responded by sharing a screenshot of a comment Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr. made on his son’s post.

Marquise Jackson went after his dad again yesterday, October 12, by sharing a poster for a parody TV show called Power Book III: Raising Marquise in place of 50 Cent’s Power Book III: Raising Kanan series.

50 Cent’s response to all of that is to share a video clip of himself in his bathtub and seeing his son on his TV. “This ni***’s crazy. You 25 years old, why you still talking about child support?” Fifty said.

Ashanti Calls Irv Gotti Obsessed On Diddy’s ‘Gotta Move On Remix’

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Ashanti turn her attention to Irv Gotti on Diddy’s “Gotta Move On (Remix).”

The R&B singer is teasing a new snippet, and fans seem to think she is taking shots at Murder Inc’s founder. Ashanti and Irv Gotti have had a tense relationship for years since she left the label. The Grammy-winning singer has been the object of Gotti’s anger this year after she attempted to buy back her masters from him and then decided that she would re-record the albums, killing Gotti’s royalties’ stream.

On Monday, Ashanti seemingly broke her silence after releasing a remix of “Gotta Move On” by Diddy and Bryson Tiller. A short snippet of the track had lyrics that referred to a man being obsessed and stressed.

“It’s giving obsessed, it’s giving you stressed, it’s giving you pressed,” she adds. “It’s giving this: missing the best…But it’s been 20 years, please say less we could see you and your tears… tried a new man, Yeah, you gotta move on,” Ashanti sings.

“You thought that you could have her on the weekends / Now you mad ’cause I told you I was leaving / I’m gone, I’m done,” Ashanti says in another verse.

A DJ on the track shouts out Ashanti, Yung Miami, Diddy, and Bryson Tiller, but the other verses on the Ron Browz track have not been released yet.

Ashanti’s response comes months following several damaging public statements by Gotti, who appeared bothered by Ashanti’s relationship with fellow artist Nelly. The artist also claimed that he and Ashanti were romantically involved, and they had just finished having sex when they created the hit song “Happy.”

“It helped her,” Irv said about their romantic involvement.

“I think of the whole track in the shower,” Irv shared while explaining his creative process of how “Happy” came to be after he had just been in bed with Ashanti.

Despite his many pronouncements about Ashanti, the music producer claimed he was not obsessed with Ashanti, as many fans had called him and said that he only spoke of the singer when questioned about their relationship. Irv Gotti’s response was to label himself as a marketing genius, meaning the statement might’ve been a PR stunt.

Nicki Minaj is hinting that she has more projects coming with Skeng.

The Trinidad-born rapper says that she is a big fan of Jamaican artist Skeng and she is hinting that there’s more to come with her and the artist. In an Instagram Story shared on Friday, Minaj said seemed to react to fans who questioned her remixing “Likkle Miss” with eight other female artists from the Caribbean on the riddim.

“Skeng is the future. Every thing Skeng touch is special,” Nicki Minaj began. “He’s different. I love him so much- y’all have no idea. No one is a bigger Skeng fan than me. NO ONE!!! Stay tuned,” she teased.

“TheFine9 Likkle Miss” remix was released two days ago, featuring several dancehall and soca artists. Spice, Pamputtae, and Lisa Mercedez are just a few of the artists who added to the track. On Saturday, Spice shared that the track was No. 1 on all of the hip hop charts eliciting a response from Minaj. In Spice’s caption, she shared gratitude for Nicki Minaj.

Spice also dished on the creative process and working with the self-proclaimed Queen of Rap directly.

“The fact that I got to personally talk with you throughout this project and witness for myself how meticulous you were with each of our verses to ensure that we all shined and how passionate you were with it, is just mind blowing for me. @skeng.don big up yuhself #Dancehall cya Stall,” she added.

Nicki Minaj also responded to Spice, adding that she was a fan of the Dancehall Queen. “Well Mi blood*** frighten over THIS!” Minaj, who was born in Trinidad but often aligned herself with Jamaican culture, said.

Nicki Minaj Responds To University Of Berkeley New Course On Her Career

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Nicki Minaj says she will stop by one of the classes at University Of Berkeley inspired by her career.

Nicki Minaj continues to achieve new heights both on and off stage. There is news that the University of California Berkeley recently announced that it will soon offer a course titled Nicki Minaj: The Black Barbie Femmecee & Hip Hop Feminisms.

The course will focus on her impact in the context of broader historical-social structures and Hip-Hop feminisms. It is expected to begin next semester and will primarily revolve around the “Fine Nine Remix” rapper’s life and career.

The information was made public via the university’s academic guide and has met with Nicki Minaj’s approval. She tweeted her approval when she replied to a thread about the course. “I’d love to stop by,” she posted.

Dr. Peace and Love El Henson, the person who developed the course, also shared her excitement at getting the chance to teach students about the impact Nicki has made over the years with her stellar career thus far. Hoping onto Twitter, she said that her words could not capture her excitement and appreciation for the support. She added that she now felt even more encouraged and would be looking forward to sharing more details as they’re finalized.

There’s no doubt that the rapper has continued to break the glass ceiling in the rap world and has already accumulated numerous accolades over the span of her career. Just last month, her mega-hit “Super Freaky Girl” became the fastest solo female rap song to amass an astounding 100 million streams on Spotify. It also debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Following the news, the “Do We Have A Problem” rapper once again took to Twitter to share her views on the difference between making viral hits versus creating undeniable classics.

“If you’re a SINGER questioning if you should stay true to R&B, let the record show that going viral & making lasting classics are 2 different things. Only 1 of them will stand the test of time & is respected by the greats you look up to. #LoveInTheWay @_YungBleu,” she posted.

Brandy Supports Ray J After Concerning Messages, Singer Was Drinking

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Brandy join fans in supporting Ray J after a series of concerning messages.

In recent years and rightfully so, a special spotlight has been placed on mental health. This also applies to the super-demanding world of entertainment. That’s why fans immediately raised concern after Ray J posted a series of cryptic posts alluding to suicide. The posts which have since been deleted were uploaded to his Instagram account.

Some of the posts were split between his main Instagram profile and his InstaStories yesterday, October 6. From what was shared, it appears that the Love and Hip-Hop: Hollywood star may be having some suicidal ideations.

In most of the clips, he is seen sitting high above the ground, and several of them were captioned with various thoughts about jumping to his death. In the first clip, Ray J added an on-video comment that read: “If I die tonight.” That one was over a body of water. The caption read, “If it wasn’t 4 my Kidz I would jump off and die tonight.”

In another video, still, high above the ground, his legs can be seen hanging off of a ledge with yet another disturbing caption: “SHOULD I JUST JUMP off and end it rit. Now.”

TMZ reported that the R&B singer is currently in Mexico with ex-wife Princess Love and the couple’s two young children. The media outlet also said that they spoke to someone close to the situation who said that Ray J had been drinking and deleted the posts after his ex urged him to do so.

The person, who also asked to remain anonymous, also shared that the “One Wish” singer was just kidding around and that no steps have been taken at this time for him to seek professional or any other medical care.

On the surface, as is the case many times with mental health sufferers, he appears to be doing just fine. Recently on October 3, he posted just like a regular proud father would as he shared a clip of his two little ones dancing as he and Princess cheered them on.

Just a few hours later, he posted a Reel to address criticisms of his blond low-cut hairstyle with a black rose design added in.

“I use my social media to get opinions, some could be out of control, some could be real, or some could just be off the wal. Either way, it’s 2022 and this is how we do it. I’m back at it again me and Jackie going with a new color, a new scheme. This one is gonna be next level to the last one, right? And I got a lot of mixed feelings from my close friends about the blond, right?” he said.

He has been trending recently and, just last month, was once again in the spotlight after he revisited his exchanges with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. He revealed several text messages between him and the former couple about the new developments surrounding his and Kim’s infamous sex tape.

That led to him accusing Kris Jenner of attempting to block him from going into further detail about the sex tape, as he claimed that his Instagram account was restricted.

Brandy has since shared an Instagram post showing support to Ray J amid his concerning messages. “Need you bro [Ray J],” she wrote with a throwback photo of the two of them together.

Lisa Mercedez, Dovey Magnum Salutes Nicki Minaj For Career Defining Collab

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

There’s no doubt that Nicki Minaj is one of the biggest rappers in the game and so getting the opportunity to work with her is a dream come true. That’s how Lisa Mercedez feels about getting the chance to hop on Nicki’s remix of Skeng’sLikkle Miss.”

She admitted that she was over the moon when Nicki Minaj contacted her via Instagram to ask her to be part of the project. The track “The Fine Nine Remix” was released earlier this week, October 3.

It features a list of strong Caribbean female acts, including Pamputtae, Dovey Magnum, Spice, soca artists Patrice Roberts and Destra Garcia, British rapper Lady Leshurr, who has roots from St. Kitts, and Bronx rapper London Hill who has Jamaican heritage.

Lisa Mercedez expressed her continued excitement about being part of the track to the Observer, and she also said that she felt it was a historic and powerful remix.

For her, the track is about love and unity and the fact that it sheds light on some of the talented female artists in the region. Added to that she is sure it would help to prove to the naysayers that female artists can actually come together as one and create something memorable.

The “What A Night” singer also shared that she already sees an upsurge in work as she’s been very busy since the song’s release. That also includes doing interviews for the Jamaican native who currently resides in London.

Nicki Minaj at MTV VMAs 2022

“I just did a collaboration with Patra. She was the one who motivated me to do music when I was younger. I reached out to her and she gave me a verse on my song, which was produced by Jon FX. I also did a song with Daddy1,” she continued.

Lisa Mercedez began her career in 2014 and shared that she intends to start working with more Jamaican producers like Damage Musiq, TJ Records, and JonFX. She’s already had some big collaborations, including tracks like “Kitty Kat.”

Meanwhile, another rising female deejay, Dovey Magnum, not only admitted she was happy with the track but that it was a statement to her to stay true to herself. She made the comments while speaking with the Jamaica Star.

Dovey Magnum said that she was getting tired of the constant criticism that she’s had to face in the genre and was happy that she was able to express herself on the track. In fact, she said she was close to changing up to try and better fit into what was expected of her.

“Dem nearly mek me feel fraid and stop doing music the way I love to do music. I nearly stopped being me. Girl deejay badness and sexiness. Me sing, me all go conscious with Prayer Me Use And Win and it never matter, and I am one of few artistes who when she performs, sounds like how she does on her songs. But you know what? Who need fi notice my talent, a notice my talent,” she added.

The “Bawl Out” artist believes that it is her tenacity that eventually brought her the chance to join the other well-known female acts on the track. She saw it as another big break in her career and was thankful to Nicki Minaj, who she believes is a big fan of her career.

She also said that she was happy she defended the original remix of the song, which was somewhat harshly criticized.

The “Harkive” singer also said that she firmly believes it is time for dancehall fans to stop fighting about what is doing good for the genre, which she believes is collaborating with others.

The music video for “Fine Nine” was uploaded to YouTube yesterday, October 6, and has already passed 500,000 views.

21 Savage Confronts Wack 100 For Accusing Him Of Snitching On YSL

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

21 Savage got into an angry confrontation with Wack 100 after he made claims that Savage was a police informant who “snitched” on Young Thug in his ongoing racketeering case.

While on Clubhouse together, Wack 100 got angry at 21 Savage after he said he called him the f word and called 21 a “rat” and said that he snitched on Thug. Young Thug is currently awaiting trial for violating Georgia’s racketeering statute and gun and drug charges in a sweeping indictment.

“There be a lot of shit going on, and I don’t speak on it,” 21 told Wack during the call. “I done seen you go through real-life shit and I don’t speak on it, I don’t make fun of it, I don’t speculate about it. Just give me the same respect, gang!”

When Wack asked what he meant, 21 added, “You calling me a snitch, man! Bruh, you on the internet saying you think I’m an informant, gang. Come on, man!”

Wack 100, known for his controversial comments and ability to stir up drama, manages clients like 6ix9ine, The Game, and Blueface. At the time of his outburst, he appeared to be upset at a woman whom he threatened to come for her life and said he had recordings of her.

Wack explained that the District Attorney in Fulton County, Georgia, had claimed that a prominent rapper was an informant as he questioned how 21 Savage’s immigration case seemed to be working out, although it is well-known that Jay-Z and the Roc Nation legal team had stepped in to help the rapper and stop him from being deported.

“The D.A. in Atlanta said it’s a well-known rapper who’s telling. You get caught and get threatened to get sent out the country ’cause you ain’t a real citizen; we gotta figure out your sh*t,” Wack said.

21 Savage said there was nothing fishy about his immigration case, especially as he has a gun case from 2021 that could incentivize him to cooperate with authorities.

“Man, come on, bruh, what the hell you talking about?!” 21 Savage said. “What the f**k, bruh?! Goddamn, triple OG! I can’t go to court for immigration if I got an open gun case, fool.”

Wack 100 continues to press 21 further. “Did you give up Thug or nah? What’s going on? Thug bought you a brand new truck,” Wack 100 said.

21 Savage declared he was leaving the conversation as Wack 100 wanted to go viral: “Man, you trying to use me for content! I’m gone, man. I’m gone,” before abruptly leaving the session.

“You is content, you rat-ass n****a,” Wack snapped even after Savage left. “You’s a rat, n***a. You told on Thug, n***a. F**k up outta here.”

Wack 100 and 21 Savage aren’t friends. Wack previously threatened to put hands on Savage after he called him ‘lame’ in an Akademiks podcast last year.
