Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

After signing the Official Condolence Book for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II yesterday (September 18, 2022), US President Joe Biden offered his condolences to the people of the United Kingdom. He also recounted his experience of meeting Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

We’ve had an opportunity to meet with an awful lot of consequential people, but I can say that the ones who stand out in your mind are those whose relationship and interaction with you are consistent with their reputation.

It was an honor to meet her.

US President Biden said.

US President Biden also recounted the time he was invited by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for tea.

He said:

We were joking — crumpets — she kept offering me more; I kept eating everything she put in front of me — but she was the same in person as she — as her image: decent, honorable, and all about service.

Biden also talked about how his own mother and father “thought that everyone, no matter who they were, no matter what their station, no matter where they were from deserved to be treated with dignity” and that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II carried herself with such dignity.

“The world is better for her,” Biden said.
