Director of Hazard Management Danielle Coleman says the public should continue to take seriously the threat of now Hurricane Ian as it passes by the Cayman Islands in the next few hours.
“We are really, really pleased with the response from the Cayman Islands public.
“They have obviously heeded the warning and taken the threat seriously and we really strongly continue to encourage you all to continue to do so but we are very, very grateful for your cooperation,” Coleman says.
She says there’s still the possibility of flooding from the system.
According to Coleman, 70 people are without power in both Grand Cayman and the Sister Islands and 160 persons are in shelters across the three islands.
Coleman says there were also some challenges with the transportation of medical supplies last evening.
